As an experiment, Camp Pendleton paid its 26 thousand marines last Friday instead of Thursday and the result was a very slow weekend in Oceanside. Action newsman Gene Gleeson has details.

Palomar Theater
In 1976 us new marines at pendleton were told oceanside was off limits.
I was there in 75. Stationed at 53 area dispensary. Had an apartment at 306 So. Pacific. One of those theaters there always played Bruce Lee films. It was the best duty ever. Fished from the pier and ate at Ruby's. Sad to hear about the fire. Hope they rebuild. I remember surfing on Christmas Day there also.
Moved to Oceanside June 1974.
So familiar.
My family moved their on 1963 and I lived there until 1994 regret it so much but everything changed😢
I was the "Pizza Man" on southern Pendleton from '91-2000 and have been all over that base in that capacity. It was a joy feeding hungry Marines and having my own "business". I miss those guys.
I was in Del Mar 21 area right on the beach, we had a Pizza Hut right next to our Barracks! 1998 -2018 Retired! thanks for supporting us brother!
I believe I bought a pizza from you back in 1993
My stepdad must’ve been one of those Marines! I lived there in ‘99 when I was 10 years old. 😆
@@thebigbacon No way! What barracks were you in? I was usually all over Las Pulgas and 41 area which was mostly 5/11 Marines, I believe. Some times I made it up to SOI and Horno, but I usually just stayed at the southern half. I have many great memories doing that. Nowadays, a civilian walking around the barracks with a huge styrofoam box is probably frowned upon, post 9/11.
Dude you was known as the "roach coach" in 71'
Wow. I grew up in Oceanside and remember these streets in the 70’s so well. Gawd I miss those times.
Riiiiiiiight???
March 1973, shortly after that I was shipped to Okinawa. Time has gone by very quickly!
Yes time has flown by. I was stationed on Okinawa at Camp Foster August 1974 to September 1975.
Was at Pendleton 87-91 I sure do miss the Mexican food even Alburtos was the bomb!!!
There was nothing better than an Alberto's carne asada burrito, $3 bucks back in our day!!! ('90-95) Get one or two after partying at McCabe's on a Friday night! LOL
I remember that place in 1998.
@@orlandosierra8783 Oh, man, now you're bringing back some memories! Those were awesome! I was the pizza man from '91-'00 selling subs and pizzas on southern Pendleton during those years.
Back when Marines were just drunken barbarians terrorizing the town
Now they just play video games…
Lol, i was there at Las Pulgas in 1982
im on duty rn playing league of legends and watching youtube@@jasonsolis5416
@@leatherneck62 I was the pizza man up there in 43 area from, '91-'00, selling subs and pizzas.
😂
I was there in 1977@1212 S. Pacific. Shatner had a place across the street on the beach. The Top Gun bungalow was close by.
It’s not fair? Wow she has a lot of nerve! Was stationed at Pendleton for 8 years and I see they were taking advantage of us then and still to this day .
"No credit, no problem!"
Hill street in oceanside when I was young oceanside was the worst place to walk alone because of the marines and the hookers they had an xxx rated theater I lived in Carlsbad I grew up their I never thought I would leave but you get married and you have children you need a safe places for them so that’s why we moved but now everything is so different my high school looks like a jail were we used to hang out in the beach the parking is different they changed it to a fancy Temecula that all my childhood memories and places I grew up and played are all gone or remodeled? What a shame 😮😢🫣🫢🍷🍷
I was stationed at San Onofre at Pendleton for Infantry school at the end of 79.Went into Oceanside 2 or 3 times got laid once ( for free!) Went to Anaheim for a weekend with a bunch of guys and had a hard time finding a motel room just because we were Marines 😂
Hey bobbyallen7977, I was there at that time too! Don't remember my class number but do remember being picked up out of transit on my birthday. Mid November. Graduated mid December and sent up the road to Horno (1st Bn. 1st marines) All the best to you.
Back in 1974, when I was stationed at Camp LeJeune, 2nd MarDiv was paid the 1st & 15th and Force Troops was paid on the 5th & 20. Semper Fi
The video shows the movie theater that showed 3 rated X movies for a dollar in 71' After one ya went to the massage parlor.
Nothing like seeing happy welfare people living off the backs of others sacrifice
