- A travel guide for visiting the beach town of Oceanside in California. We'll explore the Oceanside beaches, Oceanside Pier, Oceanside Harbor, famous movie locations including the Top Gun House, Train Station, Pacific Coast Highway, and the Oceanside Farmers Market. Oceanside is the 3rd Largest City in a San Diego County by population with 170,000 residents, and occupies 42 square miles. Oceanside has 6 miles of beautiful sandy coastline. It's 83 miles south of Los Angeles, just south of Camp Pendelton, West Coast's largest Marine Corps base. Oceanside is 38 miles north of downtown San Diego, and 52 miles from the Mexican border.

If you talk to the locals, I believe that is Coast Highway, which (somehow) is not related to Pacific Coast Highway. That is what I was told when I lived there. Confusing, I know...
Wow, I lived in Oceanside fromr age 11- 16. So many memories , it was great to see some of these places I used to go to all the time. I loved to walk to the harbor all the time because the squirrels and the birds were so super friendly and even though they say don't feed them, the squirrels would come up onto my lap and put their little paws around my ice cream cone and start licking the ice cream and or climb up into my lap and take peanuts out of my shirt pocket and eat them right there in my lap. I never wanted to leave that place of peace.
Still nice.. Just spend time at the beach at night by the fire, I was impressed with the cops actually checking out the beach for safety. Much larger buildings but it's still a beautiful area, expensive.. San Diego Sockers are building a Arena, a new beautiful " Aqua" center, Swimming pool with heated water.. Nice and not expensive, it's actually still nice😊🙏💪☝👍

I grew up there when my dad was in the Navy. Haven't been there since 1987 and it still looks familiar, especially that little theater. I also used to see people fishing on the pier and catching small sharks! Then I'd be surfing right next to the pier. Our house was right next to the train tracks and only a 2 minute walk to the beach. Good memories!

Makes me so sad that fishermen fish for sharks off that pier. Apparently (according to them), if they either: 1) don’t pull them up fast enough or 2) have to fight the shark too long the shark releases some (no idea what you’d call it) chemical (???), hormone (???) into its system as a natural defense against predators that ruins the meat. So not only can the shark NOT be eaten at that point but they’ve killed the shark for no reason whatsoever.
I totally understand the “why” behind why the fishermen fish for sharks off the pier. There’s really nothing else to catch there. I think there’s only one or two other types of fish, but they’re so small that really you’d only use them as bait fish to go deep sea fishing with. So, I do understand why a fisherman would want bigger fish at some point. Just a shame that some of the sharks get killed and then can’t even be eaten. Hopefully the meat can at least be used for fishing or something else (like soup maybe??)?? Would be nice if the shark didn’t die for nothing at the end of the day.

Felix Soul Food great food, open area for families and couples, off Oceanside Boulevard, My Family is what I call NATO because they are from all over the earth and love the food😂 Nice Big New Aquatic Center near there too for family, Navy Fed also😊🙏💪☝👍

I used to live in Oceanside and it was such a fun place to live. The beach was great. Ruby's food was pretty good. I wish California wasn't so crazy expensive, I would move back.

I remember using the train from Los Angeles to San Diego longest trip but nice seeing the coast side

I grew up in Vista and i used to go to Oceanside beach as much as i could. I loved the street market they had on Thursdays. Such a beautiful place. 4th of july was always wonderful. The city does a great of controlling big events. Now in Seattle but i never where i came from.
Too many damn homeless people oceanside a lot of people on a mission in oside I ignore them they come at the wrong way I dnt owe them a living
Victor C not that many homeless persons, theres a jesus lookin dude and a couple hillbillies lookin for work but they have cleaned up the homeless for the most part, because it's so expensive to live in O'side...it used to be cheap, had a house on the beach we rented for a decade and it was only 700 a month, this was in the late 80'ss tho, i want to open a restaurant there and a surf and skate shop, best mexican food in the worls is nextdoor to the surf museum, you cant find better mexican food, i would bet my life on it and the people at the restaurant are beautiful loving and respectful!
LOL Bro' Seattle?? Everyone has their reasons.. It's not homeless infested but it has more from L.A., Long Beach and Newport loading them on one train rides to clear out their area's. But it's not Orange County, L.A. or Even Downtown San Diego.. Those places are terrible now which is sad. You can still walk your dog, jog.. All that nice stuff without a bunch of woke nuts or antifa fool's.. We still have Guy's from Pendleton, that crap ain't happening😎👍

I lived in oceanside california in 1980 and in 1983 i moved back home to hawaii) oceanside has changed so much and it bought back alot of memories for me)
I also been to the mission bay i use to go to town when they had an A and W restaurant i sure miss that place) inow live in las vegas)

I got out the military in 2014 and OMG the pier looks COMPLETELY different with all the condos and hotels.
Its changed a ton!
Last time I was at Oceanside CA was 2004. I stayed at an Asian Hotel for $40 a night. I was trying to find it on Google Maps but it’s gone. The hotel probably was demolished for a new hotel or shop. Coming from Illinois at the time, I didn’t want to stay in LA because of the crime. I didn’t know to much about San Diego, so I decided to stay in Oceanside CA. I’m glad I did. When I left Oceanside to go to Santa Monica I merged into Camp Pendleton instead of entering highway 5. The Marine Police Soldier laugh 😂 and said make a U turn. Great Times🍷

As a local I enjoyed this and learned a few things. It’s too bad they got rid of the Tom Cruise/Top Gun house. It was never anything major but was always fun to point out to people when they would come visit

Hello , I use to go to Oceanside very often when I was in the Marines , I was stationed at Camp Pendleton , you should do a video of the Marines in Oceanside and maybe the USO . Also put in the nightclubs there.

Super cold!!!!, freezing almost!!! like 38 degrees!!! But back in the late 80 and early 90's you didnt need a wetsuit in May, went out bodyboarding 2017....bodyboarding with just shorts on and it almost killed me but i had fun sponging it at Buck Beach, there was some 3 foot hollow close outs so i was barreled up for around 2 hours
