Englishman stranded in USA . Wonderful memories of my grandfather fishing from the beach . Also unique English beaches .....100 o/o pebbles. All the best.
Hi John lovely to hear from you!! Glad my video has brought back some nice memories for you!! Chesil is really unique with its shingle!!! At Bridport in the west the pebbles are tiny and they gradually get bigger over the 15 odd miles east to Weymouth where they are inches across!! If you see a picture of an angler on Chesil you can tell where on the beach they are by sizing the shingle!! Amazing! Cheers Ian
OMG I can't believe I've only just got round to watching this one 🤦♂️ Cracking trip, fair play to you both walking that far, certainly put the hard miles in.
Hi Kevin my poor body took days to recover from that one I assure you!! We feel the long walk definitely improves your chances but with each passing year it gets harder!! Also in the coming months a mackerel head close in works much better without other anglers lights constantly shining around you during darkness. Thanks for watching again and taking the time to comment cheers ian
Hey Ian, thanks for the shout out! I was quite envious watching you at Chesil, the weather and conditions looked great, and what a catch of lovely smoothhounds you both shared, top fishing! Best regards to you both, and I look forward to the next instalment.
Hi Carl lovely to hear from you! Yes it was a nice days fishing….seems ages ago now!! I’m hoping to get out on Chesil again at the end of the month. The reels performed beautifully and no birds nests!!! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment! Cheers Ian
Great watch as always. Going to chesil myself next week. Takes 2 hours from home in Cornwall. We are getting some nice pollock here at the minute. Take care Ian.
Hi Mark I hope you have a great time...it’s a fair trip from our house too but we’ll worth it regardless of the final catch! Should be plenty of hounds about....I’m not going for another month any very envious! Cheers Ian
Love your videos Ian just bought a penn rampage yesterday caught a little bass on it last night. Was fishing a surf beach in Wexford south east of Ireland
Hi Steven yes they should be about now in numbers for a few weeks...they are great fun to catch!! Good luck and tight lines!! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment cheers Ian

Hi again Danny lovely to hear from you! It’s a lovely place to put down a shelter for a few long hours and just take it all in! The fish are a bonus! Cheers Ian
nice to see you . the fathom casting special can be a problem in wind as the line catches the handle on the cast ,give us a report on it after 6 months.all the best
Hi Michael thanks for watching and taking the time to comment....yes I will report back at the end of the year after I have tried it on the cod in big seas!!! Cheers Ian
Another great video...with some cracking fish...must make the effort to fish chesil if i can find where the best places to go ..always good watching 👍👍
Hi Andy well if you go and can manage it an hours walk east from Abbotsbury car park!!! But anywhere past the dragons teeth is fine....we don’t have a mark as such as the beach is constantly changing its underwater contour. We prefer away from the crowd! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment cheers ian
Hi Royston I’ve got a 525 mag so will look at that....it is a pain when you spend that much and simple design issues aren’t resolved!!😡 Anyway thanks for watching glad you enjoyed the video cheers Ian
Brilliant session again Ian 👍 well done on some lovely fish 🎣 I’m sure Chris Macey is doing a modification to the mag on those reels maybe someone will know more 🎣👍🎣
Cheers Gary...yes casts lovely but really digs in your wrist...a really bad design error and one I wasn’t aware of!!! Nice to hear from you again! ATB Ian
Hi Ian Really enjoyable video, awesome session you had, christened the reels nicely ! I love catching SH’s, waiting for my first this year, not too many on East Devon beaches at the moment, but hopefully the warmer weather will bring them in, if we can find a space on the beaches , ! ! 50 mile queue on the M5 yesterday Your blog was hot off the press, looking at your fishing dates Glad to see Bella again, looks still to be extremely active Anyway go steady and stay safe, keep them coming regards to Chris as well
Hi Derek we were so lucky with the traffic on our journey from North Somerset! Are you down Slapton way?? I’m sure the hounds will be with you soon they are such a sporting fish! Bella getting on now I did debate not taking her but she managed the walk better than me and Chris!!! ATB Ian
Ha ha !! Not a very healthy impression for a GP and pharmacist to give is it!!😂 I am surprised he didn’t have one in the video as there is one in his lips most of the day!! Cheers Ian
Great video! Heading to chesil beach tomorrow to have a go at catching some mackerel (unfortunately had no luck when we went a couple weeks ago). Have you got any recommendations on the best spots on the beach for mackerel at this time of year?
Hi there are always about at Abbotsbury…I would definitely fish the last two hours of the day as it’s going to boiling hot so your best chance is just before dark!!!
Hi Emma thanks for watching! Blimey what a question! Fresh peeler definitely for hounds but as you see if you can’t get it then they take rag and lug as a good backup. However the crabs like the latter so be prepared for stripped baits! Bass ....well on Chesil definitely a mackerel head 5 yards out at night will get the big boys!! In the Bristol Channel it’s crab or lugworm definitely!!! Cheers Ian
Hi Gary you lucky man! Should still be a few hounds about plus Bream bass gurnard mackerel rays....pretty well everything except cod!!!! Enjoy your trip cheers ian
Quick question I'd like to go somewhere to catch as much as possible in a day time... and as I'm from Leicester I'm not getting a chance to fish on a beach often and this time I have to take children with me so I'd like to introduce them to some new fish species...
Hi Ed unfortunately the best chance of fish on Chesil is definitely dusk darkness and dawn. In daylight your chances are greatly diminished. From July onwards the whitebait are about so mackerel should be catchable in daylight either on feathers or spinning. That’s probably your best bet! Cheers Ian
Those smooth hounds have got some attitude. I reckon if you gave them half a chance they would bite the end of your finger off and take great delight in doing so
Ha ha they certainly have powerful jaws to crack open those crabs shells! I’m undecided whether a 8 lb hound or an 8lb bass gives better sport?? It’s a very close call!!! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment! Cheers Ian
I wonder where this spot is🤔🙄 me and my pals we always go to West Bexington area in Chesil beach and there aint no fish about.. I am looking for a spot the next time I go fishing. Any Suggestions pal??
Hi thanks for watching!! We don’t have an exact spot as the beach changes constantly with the weather and tides . However if you park in Abbotsbury beach car park and walk east (left) for about an hour the fishing is usually very good! Be warned it’s a hard slog!! Cheers Ian
can you eat any of the fish you caught? I hope to be going to chesil next week but wont be fishing into the evening can you recomend a target fish to aim for? Thanks a lot
Hi Lina daylight can be slow on Chesil unfortunately. In the day I would fish small hooks size 2 or 4 with ragworm and target plaice or early brean. Take feathers or a spinner for the mackerel too. Spider crabs are a real pain at the moment so expect some loss of hooklengths! Good luck thanks for watching cheers Ian
Thanks for another video Ian. Plenty of trout coming out of Blagdon at the moment. Any mackerel down there? Might head down for a few next week! Cheers, Harry
Hi Harry nice to hear from you again. We had a dabble at Blagdon last week too and the trout there are in top condition! We tried for mackerel with no success I would give it another month! Cheers Ian
Hi Mark yes it’s a good walk we do ....but very slowly!! Definitely deeper water where we go , better fishing and more tranquil!! Not sure how many more years we can do it though!!! Take care mate cheers ian
Hi John size 4 not 4 o. Size 2 fine also but no bigger. The hound that came off was first I’ve lost in 3 years I have total confidence that small hooks do the job. Plus if a plaice etc comes along it’s perfect for them too. These small hooks are for worm baits if we use crab etc we will up the size! Hope that helps! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment cheers ian
Mmmm a bit in the air at the moment...We like to fish spring tides so you get a bit of tidal movement even if the wind isn’t there. Therefore it’s either the weekend of the 12th or 26th. Certain factors need to be taken into account....work, Mrs C, etc but it will definitely be one of those!! Cheers
Hi Ian, great video mate!! Was there many spiders crabs about? This time last year it was full of them, I had a job to keep a bait out for more then 10mins.
Hi Lee thanks for watching! There were spiders....we probably lost about 6 hooklenths over the session and landed 4 I think. They were a problem mainly early afternoon...once evening came and the hounds arrived they weren’t so many. Cheers Ian
Oh we don’t take ourselves too seriously at all!! And we definitely enjoy our fishing regardless of the end result. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment! Cheers ian
Ah James I’m so sorry to hear that!! It’s a long slog I know....I’m still recovering 4 days later!!! Keep at it mate the rewards will come!!! Cheers Ian
Hi James thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. Sorry you don’t like the music hope it hasn’t spoiled your enjoyment of the video too much! Cheers Ian

Ha ha Yeah mate plus another 45 minutes too we must be mad!! But the fishing definitely much better way beyond the teeth. Not so bad going there it’s the coming back after an all night session that really kills you!!! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment! Cheers Ian
@@ianclarkfishing I've never walked beyond the dragons' teeth myself. When you're carrying your shelter two rods and a box unusually have bucket that far enough for me. I don't do any bait fishing anymore, full-time lure angling now chasing silver bars here in Cornwall.
