Prof. Israel Finkelstein is a leading figure in the archaeological and historical research of Ancient Israel. Throughout forty years of field work and study Prof. Finkelstein has managed to change the way archaeology is conducted, and to greatly influence the way the bible is interpreted, and the history of Israel is reconstructed.
Prof. Finkelstein is a professor emeritus at Tel Aviv University and the head of the School of Archaeology and Maritime Cultures at the University of Haifa. Prof. Finkelstein is active in the archaeology of the Levant and is an applicant of archaeological data in reconstructing biblical history. He is also known for applying the exact and life sciences in archaeological and historical reconstruction. Prof. Finkelstein is the current excavator of Megiddo, a key site for the study of the Bronze and Iron Ages in the Levant. Prof. Finkelstein is a member of the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities and an associé étranger of the French Académie des Inscriptions et Belles-Lettres.
Dr. Matthew J. Adams is an archaeologist who specializes in the Near East. He is currently director of the Jezreel Valley Regional Project and a Co-Director of the Megiddo Expedition along with Prof. Finkelstein.
Dr. Adams sat down with Prof. Finkelstein over several sessions to talk about how a lifetime of work has informed the story of Ancient Israel. These conversations became the series The Rise of Ancient Israel with Israel Finkelstein.

Im not religious, but I love studying these regions and periods of ancient history. It was my Masters Degree and an area of continuing fascination, especially as more archeological evidence comes to light. This stuff is my LOTR. Thanks for the integrity of your efforts.

The more I hear the history of the region the more it seems like what we now have in "the bible" is a polical movement that started early to galvanise an identity of a set of people, then got out of hand later on. It's a really amazing study of how people see themselves in their world and their land.
Prof Finkelstein gives a compelling account of the history of the Levant. He has underpinned his discoveries in his book ‘The Forgotten Kingdom’ (2013.). That he has identified instances of Deuteronomist bias against the northern kingdom is revelatory.

Actually what I got out of that is that the bible is inspired by events that happened, but isn't entirely representing them correctly. He even said that in parts. But yes, a very enjoyable discussion to listen to.
Yeah Finkelstein is so enlightening. I think that followers of the Old Testament regardless of tradition, would be more appreciative if the actual, archeological history were popularly told.
The only critique of Finkelstein is that he knows that David had Habiru tendencies and fills the Habiru archetype. But does not lean into the entirety of Hebrew Israel and Hebrew Judah having Habiru roots.
Professor Finkelstein is not ancient, has risen, and will not fall.
