    • The Rise of Ancient Is...
Prof. Israel Finkelstein is a leading figure in the archaeological and historical research of Ancient Israel. Throughout forty years of field work and study Prof. Finkelstein has managed to change the way archaeology is conducted, and to greatly influence the way the bible is interpreted, and the history of Israel is reconstructed.
Prof. Finkelstein is a professor emeritus at Tel Aviv University and the head of the School of Archaeology and Maritime Cultures at the University of Haifa. Prof. Finkelstein is active in the archaeology of the Levant and is an applicant of archaeological data in reconstructing biblical history. He is also known for applying the exact and life sciences in archaeological and historical reconstruction. Prof. Finkelstein is the current excavator of Megiddo, a key site for the study of the Bronze and Iron Ages in the Levant. Prof. Finkelstein is a member of the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities and an associé étranger of the French Académie des Inscriptions et Belles-Lettres.
Dr. Matthew J. Adams is an archaeologist who specializes in the Near East. He is currently director of the Jezreel Valley Regional Project and a Co-Director of the Megiddo Expedition along with Prof. Finkelstein.
Dr. Adams sat down with Prof. Finkelstein over several sessions to talk about how a lifetime of work has informed the story of Ancient Israel. These conversations became the series The Rise of Ancient Israel with Israel Finkelstein.

Another great episode. Perhaps towards the end of the series, you guys could devote a brief episode oriented towards a bibliography---books, atlases, other resources to use for further ongoing study. Archeological sites to keep an eye on in internet searches.

With the millions of people who grow up going to sunday school I would have thought this channel would be more popular. Maybe no one knows about it.

Some of it is probably because of the algorithm. I have heard that YT wants people making shorts and doing lives.
Having said that, this is one of the best Biblical archeological channels on UA-cam. Hopefully it will continue to gain more subs over time. If others are like me, as soon as they find it they will start working through the absolute trove of first-rate material being created and compiled here.

OMG, what a fascinating exchange!!! My first time here and I can guarantee that I will watch every interview with Prof Finkelstein. He brought us back in time with such vivid details which all christians jews and others need to grasp to elevate our dialogue. I will listen to this vid perhaps 10x and go back to my bible study to have more fun
Also interested in buying his books and one day perhaps meet him as I love Israel. Many thanks again, God bless both🙏

I’m thrilled to see an expert such as Prof Finkelstein on YT- I’ve been a huge fan since buying “The Bible Unearthed” with N.A Silberman.
It’s interesting getting a strong archaeological perspective to contrast with the more prolific textual critics. When taken together, one sees a far clearer and three-dimensional picture of what really went on in those ancient days and how the Hebrew religion gradually evolved and Judaism came into existence. Appreciate all these lectures - thank you.

Jeroboam is such an interesting name.
Jeroboam (the people will be many = summer) was the son of Nabat (the seer= spring equinox), an Ephrathite (fruit-producer), from Zereda (cold = winter), i.e., the earth during summer was called Jeroboam. Zeruah (the leprous, or white woman = Virgo in winter), his mother, was a widow, her husband having died six months before. "He lifted his hand up against the king," because Solomon built millo (fullness = winter, because winter with summer fills out the year, summer is always opposite winter), and closed the breaches of the city of David - the latter being the Sun during summer. Jeroboam, on account of his valor, had charge of the house of Joseph, i.e., the earth in summer produced its crops (Joseph). Leaving Jerusalem (summer solstice), the prophet Ahijah (brother Sun), the Shilonite (of the summer solstice), found Jeroboam in the way (at the fall equinox, where these two always meet) and, seizing the new garment of Jeroboam ("they two were alone in the field "), he rent it (the crop) into twelve pieces, one for each month in the year. Ten of the twelve pieces he immediately gave back to Jeroboam, saying, I will rend the kingdom (the crop) out of the hand of Solomon (the year), and will give ten parts of it to thee. Now, counting from the fall equinox, where the parties there were, these ten months would bring us around to July (Leo), which Saul gave to David as the price (100 " foreskins " of the Philistines) for Michal (Virgo), his daughter

Again, I love it all! One suggestion: Please consider putting up some maps whenever you mention a city for the first time (or when mentioning it again after a "long" period).
    ex/ ua-cam.com/video/6x2I2s7aJy4/v-deo.html - Mentions Samaria.
I find that I keep another browser open w/ a map and I have to try to find one for the time period being discussed.

Ancient Israel is very interesting. Especially since Isaiah 9.14-15, describes Israel as the four signs of Leo (the royal head), Virgo (palm frond), Libra (reed, a water plant), and Scorpio (lying tail). Reminds one of the Hindu-Persian Manticore.
