  • How does Luka Doncic make the NBA look so easy? He scored 73 points against the Atlanta Hawks, which have everyone wondering if he will pass Kobe Bryant. Well the NBA is creating a scoring machine by their new rules favoring the offense. Take a look on how the NBA is setup perfectly for Luka to dominate.

If “lack of defense” was the reason Luka scored 73, then EVERYONE could score 73 points on 91%TS.
Luka is simple the next HIM of the nba.
    He is the next Larry-MJ-Kobe.
There’s a reason why Kobe called him his favorite young player.
There’s a reason why MJ ran up and grab hugged Luka. Never seen Jordan do that any other young player.
They all know he has “it”. He’s the next main character of the NBA

It's not true that the Hawks didn't play defense, of course they played it, maybe not the best, but they played it, and in the second half they constantly doubled Luka, but he still scored 73 points.

Very interesting thought out video. Well done.
One thing people allways underestimate is Lukas strengh and sheer size. Dude is 6'7, 245 lbs, 7'0 wingspan and has tree trunks for legs. This lower body strengh allows him to bully every normal wing like Bridges, or OG, even if they are good defenders. And the leg strengh also allows him to stop on a dime mid drive, absorb contact and still finish very easily. Yeah, he doesnt jump out of the gym, but he is way faster, agile and shifty then people give him credit for. Combine that with perfect Fundamentals and an outstanding BB IQ and you have a scoring machine.
On the topic of scoring overall, I just rewatched the 2011 Dallas finals run. The ammount of long 2's (like 2 feet max into the 3P line) is laughable. Dirk, Terry, Barea, even Marion or Kidd. Those shots would all be 3's today. Analytics destroyed the long 2, that alone is at least +10 on the overall ORtg. So defenses are not much worse. The league just changed like 20 long 2's per game at 43% (league average on midrange jumpers in 2010) with 20 3's at 36.7% (league average 3P% this season)... You do the math. Combine that with the higher pace and better skill of role players and tada... Offences are better then ever. For me its not a lack of defense, its just that even the best defense doesnt really matter anymore. And rules play just a small role in that.

Luka controls the game. He doesn't need to run like headless chickens. Magic Johnson was the same.

The fact you agree that Luka plays at a slower pace means that he's scoring is legit. Anyone that understands basketball also understands that Atlanta Hawks threw many many different coverages at Luka in that game. And also Kyrie did not play in that game.
And if people are going to discredit or try to discredit the players of today based on the rules then they have to also apply the same rules to LeBron James who has played his entire career with the same rules. So either LeBron James is not as great as everybody says he is, or his goat cases legit and Luka is on the same level
It's amazing to me how many times I seem to have to explain this to people that claim to know ball. What is hand checking going to do above the 3 pt line? First of alll you cannot hand check out that far. Second of all, the offence played today is heavy pick and roll offense. Once a pick is set, the defender is beaten and Luka especially will just put him in jail. We should also consider the fact that players are not trying to score within the perimeter. Players aren't posting up and trying to score inside very much. The floor is so spaced out that hand checking would be completely useless. But bring it back so we can shut all the old heads up.
It's not that defense is bad or that teams don't play it. It's that the way the game is played today it just can't keep up with the offense.

Agreed. The game used to be a lot more physical. Now the defense looks fake and ineffective. They should bring back hand checking and allow more contact, like it used to be. I sometimes play basketball with young people and I am used to a very physical defense. I played a lot of streetball back in late 80's early 90's and the young people complain about my physicality. Even my son who played the basketball in junior league and is 6'4 and 220lbs complains and calls everything a faul, whereas this is how we used to play streetball back in the early 90's. It was very a lot more physical and defense was as important as the offense. NBA should bring back some defense again.
