Always good to see an old school wrestler who isn't broken mentally or physically or financially. Looks like Greg Valentine has beaten the odds. Good for him!
@@billblaski9523he orders from the factory where I work and my coworkers and I have spoken to him a times. He always seems upbeat and friendly when he's dealing with us. He's apparently pretty well off financially too if his spending habits with our company are any indication.
The Hammer lives out in Vegas. I ran into him out there. He's a hell of a nice guy and doesn't mind chatting with fans. A great heel and terrific performer throughout his career.
Well said. I completely agree. Never has a bad thing to say about anyone! I suggested above that he's like the exact opposite of The Ultimate Warrior who seemed to believe that EVERYONE was a terrible jerk.
When I was 11 or 12, I went to a wwf show at Glens Falls civic center in upstate New York. Was like 1988 or 89. We were waiting out front and a cab pulled up next to us and out came Greg Valentine. My friend and I couldn’t believe a huge star like The Hammer would be riding in an old beat up cab. We were star struck and he playfully growled at us in full heel fashion. It’s a great memory.
Greg’s a class act, I’ve never heard him say a bad thing about anyone. He’s a bit different than I expected, he’s always been one of the guys that made wrestling believable.
@@streetsofsouthphilly , Yeah Greg Valentine was more of an old school grappler. The only “Gimmick” they put on him was when he dyed his hair black and teamed with the Honky Tonk man as Rhythm & Blues. I think he was underrated and could have done a lot more if creative would have used him better.
@@bvshr He was underrated, but considering he's still with us, in decent shape and not broke (as far as I know) he's far better off than most old wrestlers.
@@streetsofsouthphilly , Agreed …I just personally believe Vince McMahon had too much of a fixation on Hulk Hogan. He tried to go from One Golden Goose to another, most of the roster got short changed.
@@streetsofsouthphillyhe definitely isn't broke. He lives in a beautiful home and has apparently handled his money well. He deals with the company I work for and spends as if he has plenty of extra dough
Greg is a masterclass in how finding ways of making others shine can make you look that much better. He seems to be legit about his perception of others too. I’m sure He realizes in his line of work, you never want to leave a bridge burned… because you don’t know where your next paycheck will come from.
Never did like Rythem and Blues but LOVED Valentine pre Wrestlemania 1. Loved the fued with Santana. He also has great matches with Steamboat. And the Feud with Ronnie Garvin. I still have that match on VHS tape from recording it, watching that Royal Rumble. Amazing worker and an even better person. God bless him.
100% honest, if you live in the St. Pete area, you’ve probably seen Greg at a Ray’s game or somewhere else, and he’s always kind of seemed out of it. But watching this shoot, he’s not out of it at all; he’s just chill, and just kinda floating around doing his thing, because he is completely with it, engaged, and a memory like a steel trap. Good on him. Great interview with a great performer.
He scared me when i was a kid, thats how good of a wrestler he was. So glad to later find out he was so nice and so honest. Mad respect for you my friend!!!
I always liked Valentine's big goofy grin at the end of his backstage skit at WM6 with Steve Allen when he actually got Allen to crack just as the camera faded out
Who would ever have guess back in the 70s/80s that Greg the Hammer, one of the toughest and revered wrestlers in history, was such an authentic good-hearted Class Act! And fantastic story teller!
Say whatever you want but in my opinion Greg the hammer Valentine is one of the greatest intercontinental champions of all time and should have been a world champion. In the era of modern wrestling when we have two title belts of a world title fashion he definitely would have been able to hold one of them and he definitely works better than most of the guys who have held the world champion from 2002 onward
1985 I was 7 and I went to Brantford Ontario for WWF event. I was grabbed by JYD and got into ring and me and another fella got to dance with the legend. He was my fave at the time and of course Hammer was his big rival. Just made me think of it. Still have it on VHS.
The Hammer has got to be one of the best EVER. Great stories, and a really good story teller. Always was one of my favorites. His feuds with Wahoo Mc Daniel and Roddy Piper are legendary.
Well by this time of their tag team they were both past their “prime” in WWF, but I agree, they should have been the “Jake the Snake” Roberts of the tag team ranks.. The 3rd best so to speak that made the top challenger for whoever would have the tag belts at the time. If that makes sense.
I haven’t watched wrestling since the late 80s, I always like Greg Valentine tho, and I didn’t even know he was the chillest, nicest, most humble guy ever. And hats off to the interviewer, they’re just letting Greg tell the stories. 10/10 for sure.
I remember Honky Wrestling in Calgary & Vancouver he came to Calgary to be Dr. D Shultz partner. He cut a promo that was epic " Blood will follow like red ripple wine " and it sure did
A lot of dumb fans complain... duh I didn't like that gimmick with Honky... but you see Valentine enjoyed it and that's all that matters... the man was and still is a total team player... that's why he's lasted so long. A true Legendary Heel of Wrestling.
I totally agree about shutting down "Rhythm and Blues" too early. It was a departure for Greg but he and HTM had chemistry together. They really were opposites and I always liked that in a tag team as opposed to having two very similar guys that almost presented a composite.
I agree. During the 80s, there were managers that seemed to be fun to travel with from Jimmy to Bobby Heenan. Even Slick seems to be fun to listen to. I heard he was a priest so Slick might pray for you if u have a good relationship with him.
I remember seeing him perform at the Freeman Coliseum in the late 80’s in San Antonio. I hated him!!!! But now I see what a professional he is. Thank you for making wrestling fun!!!!
You never heard Greg Valentine like truly disses his fellow wrestlers and at times was rare heck he one of somewhat few wrestlers to never talk bad or buried Hogan
Great respect for Valentine but he spent years being "The Hammer" and I don't ever think fans were tired of it. The Rythym and Blues thing was more of a Honky Tonk Man deal to try and keep him still relevant. Greg says he had fun with the gimmick and I believe him, you had to have sort of a decent sense of humor to look the way Valentine did in that outfit with the grease back hair and those glasses holding that Guitar. Hilarious picture with him and HTM.
Utmost respect for this man- he doesn't break others down or critisise and always seems to find the good in every situation- is kind and complementary of his colleges and doesn't go through life now knocking others or showing resentment or animosity towards the business or his peers. The man knows how to conduct himself and its great to see he's still with us and in such great shape. Kudos and respect Greg - a true pro inside and outside the ring.
1:43 I think he may be confusing The Road Warriors for The Nasty Boys. If the plan was for R&B to beat the Harts for the titles, it was The Nasty Boys who took their spot not LOD. If you follow the timeline, R&B were plugged into a feud with the Harts in late 90 including being on opposing survivor series teams but then the Nastys debuted in early 91 as Jimmy Harts new team and they took the belts from the Harts at Mania 7.
Greg The Hammer Valentine is and was a real man's man though, rugged, strong and powerful in the ring a loyal and dedicated professional wrestler to the business of Wrestling for many Decades!

What hotel are you doing these interviews at? Just curious 🧐
A humble man has the ear of God.
😊
Greg is such a chill man. I would like to have a drink with him and listen to his stories for hours
His Jimmy Hart impression "we can do it right here baby" puts a smile on my face for sure too
Yes I agree
He’s more of a smoker😜🌲
I don't drink or smoke lol but I like listening to him. Shane Helms,Honky Tonk n Road warrior Animal are real good too
Did that at a hotel bar in Charlotte, NC. Valentine, Tommy Rich, me and a lot of beer.
