Actually this is a very common way of eating mangos anywhere that isn't white central. There's also the bite a hole and squeeze gently to soften the flesh and suck it out. What works, works. This way you can grab a teaspoon and go to town, and that way there is little mess if you do it right eating your way down and peeling it with your teeth only if you have to. The same way some people like to skin their oranges or eat em as a half instead of eighth.
