    Thank you so much, this is the exact and very video I was looking for, my dog, a golden retriever hardly 6 months old, keeps vomiting after a 5-minute drive. I was really worried but when I encountered this video, it was a life-changer. It was specifically for this situation I and my dog are in. I couldn't have found a better video, thanks! P.S. Darcy is the absolute cutest, just melts my heart!

      Hey friend! Can you tell me please what you did exactly to help your dog overcome car sickness and anxiety in the car? My dog feels anxious and stressed in the car, but I think it’s kind of a phobia rather than the actual movement produced by the car. Thanks in advance.

      @@leore2003 Hi Leo, of you watch the video the tips to help with anxiety are all in there. If it is motion sickness then tips like window down, stopping frequently (especially when they start panting or looking uncomfortable - my other dog gets actual motion sickness so I can usually tell when he starts getting fidggity and pull over and let him take a walk around so it subsides for a bit. but the other tips in here and making car trips a positive short trip for a long while can help them change their perception of car travel. cheers, Lara

    My dog associates the car with going to the park, or other enjoyable activities with me. His anxiety comes from being stuck in traffic on the highway. And even more panic when inside containment of any kind. He has a level 6 heart murmur. One of these tips really help us.

      Hi Ani, glad you were able to get some tips to help. Busy roads and feeling unable to escape can be very tough on dogs, especially if they have a bit of anxiety. At least there are some fun trips too to help balance out his experiences in the car which is great. cheers, Lara

    I never had a dog get car sick until I got Sooner, our 17 lb, 1 yr old, Cavapoo. As soon as I put him in the backseat of the car he starts shaking and whining incessantly. We have already had two instances of a 2hr trip each way where he got sick multiple times. I even tried Dramamine twice before the last trip and it didn't seem to phase him. He is naturally hyper with guests and jumping in the house, which we are working on. At this stage, what is the best way to break him into vehicle travel?

    Hi all, just note that motion sickness is very real in dogs and it can be hard to tell what is the root cause sometimes, so a tip that I put into practise with my other dog Vindi who is anxious but also gets actual motion sickness is to stop and pull over regularly so he can get out and run around, which helps stops the motion element, and I always look out for when ever he starts to fidget or pant as that is usually the first sign he is not feeling well, so I try to pull over as soon as possible for that. Cheers, Lara

    Is Adaptil Calm diffuser useful?

    • @Larashannon
      @Larashannon  2 роки тому +1

      Hi there, for some dogs with anxiety it can help calm them if they are in that room. It will just depend on how severe their anxiety is. It's not designed for car travel, the adaptil spray or collar is for that (collar needs to take time to work and usually lasts about 6 weeks, so you wouldn't put it on the day of travel, two weeks in advance of a big trip would be best.

      We go out to the beach every day which is a 20-minute drive each way. She is a 10 year old Cockerpoo. Recently she's got worse. With her nervousness. How do you manage with a dog collar? Do we have to keep it on all time?

    What should I do about motion sickness? My dog vomits after about 30 min in the car. We never went on long travels, only to other places in the City

      HI Luis, unfortunately like us humans (myself included) dogs may always feel a bit of motion sickness. My rescue dog does, so could still be a little bit of anxiety included, so do follow some of the other tips provided in this segment. Particularly only feeding a small meal before any travel, plenty of fresh air, if a small dog - a booster seat so they are up high, close to the air and can see the road ahead, stopping frequently to let them get out and take a walk is important too - usually when the car stops the motion sickness stops, so on short trips you may need to stop frequently and slowly build up the time they spend in the car (in case they get a bit of anxiety about being sick every time they get in the car). There are also some travel tablets for dogs with ingredients like ginger that can help soothe stomachs - talk to your Vet or pet specialty store about those options. Best of luck, Lara

    Thanks for posting. Are you available for private online / email consultations?. Here in Scotland we have a 5 year old husky who does nothing but whine inside the car. We’ve tried almost everything and running out of ideas. Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated.
    Kind regards,
    John

      Hi John, most of the key tips about desensitising your dog to car travel are in the video or this article explains it in a short step by step:
      poochesatplay.com/training-behaviour/dogs-that-get-anxious-in-the-car/
      You really do need to go back to basics and start creating a positive association with the car, so starting at home with it turned off and not moving, providing treats or toys and then turning it on and not moving etc. All the time rewarding no howling and calm behaviour so that you reinforce that desired behaviour.
      I do skype consults that can be purchased via our Shop poochesatplay.com/shop/ but this is something that a trainer really does need to see in person to assess it, so given my location in Australia I would suggest seeing if you can find someone to come out to you here: positively.com/dog-training/

    SO???? It takes Real time to slowly get the dog more comfortable with car rides. That said I'm guessing then that the dog stays home until this is accomplished? Which defeats most of the plans because you are putting them in Kennels? While YOU are on the road?

    • @Larashannon
      @Larashannon  3 роки тому +2

      No, that's not the case at all. if you start straight way when your dog is a puppy it will be quick and simple and if you do it a few times a day with an older dog and you prepare for your trip in advance (which anyone must do when planning a pet-friendly holiday) and start this training a few weeks before you go, then you have time to prepare your dog!!
      You'd be hard pressed to find anywhere to stay with your dog if you planned a holiday last minute, and anyone with anxious dogs would need to start all sorts of other training before taking a dog on holiday to ensure their dog is okay with going to such places anyway. Oh and there are plenty of pet care options these days if dogs don't go on a holiday with their family, so not sure why you assume everyone has to put their dog in a kennel!!
