Gunshots that sounded very 80s, just like in the "Dirty Harry" movies or 1989 "Batman", were changed for modern ones, and music cues and sound effects were missing in the opening scene and opening credits. Plus the echo of the explosions in the tunnel chase scene were very much muted in the remix. It's clearly not the same experience and definitely not a genuine one with the remixes.

    So there's good and bad. When you're not dealing with the text elements - this looks amazing. Way better than the True Lies bs. Obviously this is still strugging with details like "Honda" and some of the computer readouts. There has to be a way to revert to the 4k scan for those elements and retrack them in as needed. I still don't like that this isn't really the original film grain, that there's a midjourney smooth version underneath what I'm seeing. But it's nowhere near as in your face as it was on some of Cameron's other discs. I haven't seen it in motion, but this is mostly passable.
    Keep in mind there are other kind of restoration errors that go unnoticed all the time. My Blu-Ray of Road Games looks great, but there's a scene near the middle where the grill of a truck is just kinda glitching and is clearly an artifact of either a clone-stamp or trying to use part of one print on another. Not ideal, but not worse than the AI errors on this much more visible restoration

    HD-Numérique, je n'ai pas bien saisi dans votre article sur cette édition 4K UHD 2024 de Terminator si cette version utilise le scan 4K de 2012 retravaillé ou alors si il s'agit d'un upscale 4K du Bluray 2K de 2012 ?

    • @hdnumerique
      @hdnumerique  20 днів тому +2

      Clarifions les termes. Un Blu-ray (1080p) n’est jamais "upscalé" en 4K. Ce processus implique plutôt la mise à l’échelle d’une source professionnelle 2K vers une résolution UHD (2160p). À l’époque du Blu-ray, les négatifs originaux avaient été scannés en 4K, suivis d’une restauration complète sur une timeline 2K, laquelle a servi de base pour produire l’édition Blu-ray (1080p).
      Pour cette nouvelle édition UHD, il est quasiment certain qu’ils ont repris cette source restaurée de l'époque, issue du scan original 4K, pour créer un nouveau master. Et cela inclut "oui" une étape de mise à l’échelle 2K -> 4K à un moment ou un autre. Avec la nuance que tout cela a été couplé aux algorithmes controversés de Park Road pour reconstruire de l'information manquante.
      Le résultat est bien un nouveau master 2024 officiellement 4K, avec un nouvel étalonnage, des ajustements visuels et une texture 35mm (qui ne ressemble en rien à celle de 2013).
      Donc ce n’est ni un simple upscale du Blu-ray, ni un réemploi direct du master de 2012. Cela dit, une étape de mise à l’échelle reste évidente dans leur workflow et le scan de départ reste le même.

    • @martinddhyj
      @martinddhyj 20 днів тому +2

      @@hdnumeriqueNo new scan and no new restoration.
      It’s just an upscale of the finished 2k master.

    • @hdnumerique
      @hdnumerique  20 днів тому

      @@martinddhyj The statement is somewhat misleading. The original 35mm negatives were scanned in 4K in 2012, restored, and fully cleaned within a 2K timeline for the Blu-ray release at that time. In 2024, a new master was indeed created, building on the foundation of the 2012 restoration. You’re right!
      However, the process likely involved the use of a fresh 4K timeline, incorporating upscaled elements enhanced by Park Road's algorithms, with some new 35mm textures added on top. Furthermore, the grading and the significant contribution of the Wide Color Gamut (WCG) are key factors in the improved look. And it’s very likely that they were developed within this 4K timeline... So, officially, Warner may be marketing this as a new 4K master, but there's no miscommunication here. It’s a 4K master derived from a 4K scan. And, in the end, everyone is right.
