  • This is how you make the ultimate Chicago Style Pepper and Egg Sandwich. Soft scrambled eggs, stewed sweet peppers and Turano French bread ( the same bread used for Italian beefs in Chicago) give this pepper and egg recipe the true Chicago flavor.
    The secret to this Lent recipe is stewing peppers the day before. It makes the flavor so much better by allowing all of the spices to infuse into the peppers. This is the best sandwich in the world during lent! I use green bell peppers, the same peppers for Italian beef sandwiches.
    ** Sweet Peppers Recipe **
    1 green bell pepper
    1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
    1 tsp kosher salt
    1/2 tsp black pepper
    1 tsp dry oregano
    1 tsp granulated garlic
    1. Preheat a saute pan over medium heat
    2. Add the peppers and cook until they lightly soften
    3. Add the seasoning and stir well to incorporate
    5. Cook for an additional 5 minutes, stirring occasionally until the peppers are soft but al dente
    6. Cool the peppers and store overnight until ready to use

    I recently went out to Texas and New Mexico. I had peppers and eggs with what they call hatch green peppers and a homemade tortilla. MADONE!! 🤌

    Just like my little Sicilian mama made for me on the South Side of Chicaaaaago!
    This is the best comfort food evah!
    Brings back wonderful memories of her and my dad.
    I'm going grocery shopping in the morning, gonna get me a baguette and peppers, I gotz da eggs already.
    After watching this, it reminded me that I gotta make braciole soon.....it's been awhile.

    My girlfriend is a vegetarian so pepper and egg is a great go-to meal we can both enjoy. I've tried a few recipes, but being from Chicago this recipe hits the spot while others did not. Thanks!

    I just subscribed! My Dad grew up on Taylor Street. In the 60's and 70's we shopped on Harlem Avenue in Chicago on Saturdays for lunch meat, Italian sausage and bread!!! M. Vigiletti ❤️

    Grew up in Chicago, as a teenager found a place that served pepper, egg and Italian sausage sandwiches during Lent. Shhhh, tell no one. Pure heaven. Thank you for the recipe. See more sin in my future.

    Pepper and egg on a hoagie roll is a staple at hoagie shop in Philly during lent. They will make them year round.

    Being an Italian from Brooklyn growing up on this very nice job Michael. Many use red peppers but I agree green superior for this. Excellent job. Amazed many dont serve this sandwich as can eat for breakfast, lunch or dinner and also can add potatoes to give it that extra kick.

      A lot of traditional Italians also add small cut up boiled potato pieces then put on the grill with the rest of ingredients (or make potato and egg sandwiches as well...)..but the green peppers, egg and potato sandwich is the way to go!

    Check out ferro's on 200 w. 31st next time your in chicago...they serve pepper and egg sandwiches all year long and all day. Get the one with potatoes added...so good. Good job with the peppers in the video!

    OMG!!! I am salivating! I have not been able to find a good P & E sandwich since I moved from Chicago. I live currently in Scottsdale, and with all the Chicagoans out here, I am shocked there is not a good P & E!! Would you add cheese, parmesan?

      @@ChefPonzio no, I actually called the Scottsdale location and was told they don’t make it. I was back home in the Chicago suburbs right before Lent and did enjoy one at Buona Beef!

    Leftover garlic bread and leftover tomato sauce goes well with the bread usually is the cut up some tomato cheese and put it on the bread and bake it with garlic and then I put the egg on top with Hot peppers cheaper make sure you take the membrane out and the seeds you don't want to kill anybody make sure you have your milk if they can't take the heat if they want more just add a teaspoon of Louisiana hot sauce or Paul Taylor's hot sauce you understandthat's it

    Pepper 🫑 onnines egg s 50 egg 50 jalapeno peppers 250 eggs take out the bread the membrane and the seeds so it's not so hot and I put it on a toasted bread butter really good it's the best lots of garlic and lots of onions at the end and that's all I add and some cheese grits the good cup of coffee good thing of OJ just the way your wife likes it she's the breadwinner of the family just don't forget to bend over when you see her am going home 🏠

    Cheap have a cheap Italian wine for usually she uses the cheapest stuff good toast of bread good butter so garlic powder and maybe if you're lucky jalapeno peppers with a membrane out and stuff and you be lucky if you get an egg sandwich in the morning you know what I mean don't ever piss her off make sure you have good times for her she leaves that's a good Italian wife Melissa you know when she cooks good you smell it for a mile away

    Bud, where did you get the Chicago from. My grandmother came to America in 1913 , landed in NY and they were eating it back then. So originated in Italy, brought to NY where you can get it in any deli or pizzeria ANYTIME of the year. Chicago tried to steal pizza and now peppers and eggs.

    Yes eggs hot peppers fresh butter corn oil add garlic cut up 5 fresh jalapeno peppers I take the membrane out chop them up big chunks throw them in the thing about a half a cup and some scrambled eggs two or three scrambled eggs to it and it's done and I'll put lettuce tomato onion and pickle and I put my thing on top with some cheese parmesan cheese some dry cheese I put on it I go to town with my Dr pepper and my legs potato chips barbecue bottle for Lay's barbecue potato chips and a big deal pickle
