  • Learning how to identify the most common pitches in baseball: spin, speed & location is a crucial aspect of pitch recognition and one of the most important skillets a hitter can have.
    Why?
    Because you can have all the confidence in the world, and the most perfect mechanics on the planet - but if your pitch recognition skills stink, you will lose your confidence and your mechanics will break down.

    This is great information and very practical! I will now finally be able to effectively crush my 9 year old’s pitches without mercy.

    What a great video! I am 56 years old and i still enjoy hitting. I go to the batting cages every chance I get. Years ago my batting cage that i went to had a curve ball machine , i can make contact in the fast ball cage but i looked foolish in the curve ball cage. It was 12 to 6 just like you described. I had to force myself to swing lower than what my mind was telling me too just to make contact. Pitch identification is truly the key. Get ready to hit the fastball then make adjustments from there.

    it's been forever since I've played, and honestly never would have considered the spin type affecting how the ball's color looks

      I agree but also this is way easier said then done. If you ask any baseball player how they recognize pitches they have pretty much no idea. Its all extremely subtle details like the spin and color and angle of the wrist that is really cool to watch in a video but you will only get better by getting reps

    This is a great video!! Thanks. I'd love to see a video where a hit of each pitch is likely to land if hit. Like if a slider results more in a pop fly or if a two seam is likely to result in a homerun. I know there are a lot of variables though. Great video

    Great video, I have been really struggling swinging and missing at sliders that end up low and away lately. My team mates suggestion was to just hit the fastball early in the count LOL

    • @kalebstuckey570
      @kalebstuckey570 2 місяці тому

      This is actually good advice. If you aren’t able to recognize pitches and adjust accordingly, you’ll have to be a guess hitter. And you’re more likely to get fastballs early in the AB. Jump on that “get ahead fastball” first pitch.

    Using a round bat to try to hit a round ball coming at you at 90mph with english on it is still the hardest thing in sports. In baseball, you are considered an all time great if you fail 7 times out of 10.

    Study the pitcher
    Decide which pitch you want
    Prepare to swing at every pitch
    Understand count probability
    Hit the breaks once unwanted pitch is identified
    No breaks if unwanted pitch is not identified
    Always expect to swing!

    looking the other way on the slider is non-negotiable. except you literally showed someone taking a low outside slider and hitting it over the SS head....

    • @appliedvisionbaseball
      @appliedvisionbaseball  Рік тому

      Because if you’re approach is right, then you can still make hard contact when you leave your posture. My guess is that if he hadn’t been looking middle away, he would have been too out front.

    • @cubsfanman-nx6pg
      @cubsfanman-nx6pg 2 місяці тому

      That's exactly what a good cutter does. It looks exactly like a 4 seam but the spin is just about 1 degree off which is why an elite cutter is so hard to hit because it looks so similar and barely even breaks

    The video is good don’t take me wrong , but is just like having the diagram or isometric print for a piping system , you don’t have time to be watching those colors differences , I am I agree with minute 1:28 and minute 2:12 , what really help you is to start earlier as is the ball is been pitched at you already knowing that the ball has not been even released from pitcher hand , but once he move toward you he intention will be the strike zone , so (why) wait till the ball is close to way to begin thinking something that you knew with anticipation ? I believe you can recognize what will be on the zone and what will not be on the zone , knowing your pitcher arsenal will help you to compete against him , think of a ( war) if your enemy know your location and what weapons you have they can ambush you at any time , if they don’t then you are even , if you’re enemy has ak47 you don’t try to fight him with a rock , hope my comment can be understand , it is made with the best intention for any player at any level , peace
