I was born in Morehead City, N C so you know I had beach music in my soul. Dancing was always what we did for entertainment in high school and college. During the 1960's, we where active in the civil rights movement. Yes I am a southern Belle who fought for civil rights as well as my outstanding family and friends. Beach music is our soul for ever

Brings back a lot of memories with "The Avengers" and the "Band of Oz" out of Grifton, NC. The Embers were, undoubtedly, the group that we 13 - 15 year olds (including Keith Houston & Johnny Byrd) looked up to and wanted to be like back in 1969. What great days! Will not ever forget first time hearing The Embers at the Atlantic Beach, NC Pavilion. Can't wait to see the finished film.

Jackie Gore IS beach music. All the other beach bands owe it all to him. In the last 50 years no one has come along to take his place. A natural.

Jackie Gore gives you talent and personality that is almost undefinable it is so good. The Embers are the anchor for all boats of Beach Music. I followed the Embers as a teenager at the Ember's Club in Raleigh and was able to hire them decades later. The thrill of my life.

Great memories starting for me since 1965. Great showmen who inspired me to play beach music.

Hey some of us lesser known pickers & non famous performers listened to John R with BB King, Howlin Wolf, and all those Memphis and Delta blues players. We mimicked them too in 3 chord and 5 chord string bending progressions. Thank goodness the Embers had the stage they did in that era to bring these great unifying sounds to all. Harmonics and great frequencies bring people together. Thanks guys. If not already done you all deserve the Order of The Long Leaf Pine in addition to a seat in the forum of the R+R Hall of Fame.

When I was playing Beach Music It was called "Soul Music" in the 60's. I remember Bob Collins and the Fabulous 5 w/Donnie Trexler on lead guitar. I was with Ron Phillips and The Notations. They were truly the Beach Band that everyone loved including myself.

I remember the Embers playing on the S.C. beaches, sometimes in the very late 1960's. I was in my late teens. I graduated from Floyds HIgh School in 1967. In high school I formed a band [ Little Ceasar and the Romans ] that played at junior seniors and party events. The bands that came into our area [ Horry County ] from outside was The Tams, Drifters, Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs, and a few others. I was lead singer in The Sensational Chords ( 9 pieces) in college. Our band performed at every major college in the southeast. We were booked by Cecil Corbit and Beach Club Promotions. I returned to the beach in 1971, and formed another beach band named JustUs. Our group performed at the Spanish Galleon, the 2 Holiday Inns ( that is all there was then) Billy the Kids, and many other places. We performed for Horry County's Christmas party. I also was the person that reopened 'The Pad' in 1970. I write all this just to point out that I have 1st hand knowledge and experience in beach music. I have "always" admired 'The Embers' , but to say they are the foundation of beach music is ridiculous! They are a solid band that has promoted beach music for a very long time. There were dozens of others that played, in their existence, just as much, as some more than The Embers.
