- Thank you to @athsexclusive for allowing us to share this race footage. It is of Cameron Myers running a 3:40.6 1500m. Which is only 0.64 of a second away from Jakob Ingebrigtsen's 1500m age group world record of 3:39.92. Cameron has all of the season to break this 1500m world record, so expect it to fall.
This is 3:56 mile pace...

Fantastic talent, absolutely very exciting years ahead of him. That being said, Jakob Ingebrigtsen at 16 did only run one 1500 race where he needed to run all out, that season and it was in this Diamond League in Stockholm.
It was also very windy, 6-8 m/s, and when he didnt manage to stay in the main group from the start, he was more or less running solo 20 meters behind them. And did 3.39.92.
He would without doubt have been running 2-3 seconds faster under better circumstances that summer. The next season he did 3.31.......

LETTTTTTTSSSSS GOOOOOOOOO!! I'm sorry for not commenting recently, but I think this is just insane. As the years go on and the talent increases and training becomes better and better young athletes start popping off!! I'm scared to see how fast high schoolers will be in 4-5 years 🏃💨

Thats insane for a 16 year old, but to be honest, he looks older, I always wondered if a rapid growth would give you an advantage for this types of Age group world records...

it would, but I also think there's still many people who are built like this at 16 and don't run quite as fast. So I'm unsure where the growth advantage lies
@@Trackstaa_ There is a growth advantage for sure at different ages. I was one of the bigger kids 7th to 9th grade and even tho certain things in athletics were easier like weight lifting, it won't make you BETTER at all athletic things. That kid's speed is the result of training and dedication.
By the end of 9th grade the other kids out grew me and I noticed kids that I could previously beat with ease, THAT was no longer true. AT some point, it's about training, not just natural ability.

Says he is 17 years old on World Athletics, still amazing. His 1:50 in the 800m after just turning 16 is insane.
So for some reason world athletics sets a lot of juniors date of birth to 01/01. He turns 17 in June

Nah, it didnt look like he slowed down that much fron the celebration. Carried his momentum well and threw the arms up in the last 5-10metres. I dont think it made more than 0.2 of a difference.

I'm English living in England and played for the school football team, on one occasion the running team were a runner short so asked me if i would compete in the 800m, we had 8 runners from our school and there were 8 from another school. I thought to myself before the race that they would probably take it easy for the first lap then pick up the pace for the final lap and half.
The whistle went to start the race and the rest of the runners sprinted away like it was the 100m, i was in last position but i said to myself i wasn't going to finish last, so ran my heart out to get into 15th place, once i did i thought 14th place would be even better so again i gave everything and so it went on 13th place, 12th place etc until the final bend and was in 5th place with the 4th place runner in just front, one more final push, he wasn't slowing down, i gave everything but couldn't go any quicker now, then with 10 metres to go he dropped of his pace i got the 4th place, i was completely gone, my legs stayed stiff for three days afterwards, i stayed with playing football which i truly loved, i was more a stop and start runner so could last the 90 minutes, but after that i had total admiration for the runners teams and athletes in general, the level they get to is amazing.

i actually have met him a couple of times and seen him run in real life as we got to the same TT (time trials) and he always seems to fly ahead

He keeps it up and he’ll be a contender for gold at the Olympics one day soon.
So he was 16 and 7 months? What an amazing runner. I will keep an eye on him.

Myers raising his arms up at the end made no difference in is time. It was for a fraction of a second and at that speed it wouldn't matter. Even for a sprinter there would be slight impact. It always amazes me how people speculate on trivial matters. Now look at me speculating!!! 😂😅

If he was American this would have been hyped up as hell. Unfortunately still a great achievement almost similar to jakob and also he was running with ease not struggling. hope he will have a great future in endurance running

Can't even process this. That's about a 3:57 mile!!! My best as a 16 year old was around 4:45 for the mile and I won 90% of the time (1980). Are they all teenagers? Look how fast these kids are if so! He could have gone under 3:40 but it looked like he was only giving it about 98% and just cruised the last 10 meters.
I did my my first sub 5 mile just after high school graduation in 4:53 back in 1982.
What high schoolers do these days is just insane!

Must have lost a few seconds at start and had heaps left in the tank. The faster he went at the end of the race the smoother he looked. Like a Ferrari. Amazing. Never seen such a smooth runner

Take a look at Ermias Girma born in 2005 and in may of 2022 he ran 3.36 at 1500 and 1.44 at 800.
I looked him up - 1:44 is elite regardless of age. I have my doubts that dude is actually 17.
@@MrBeast-1 i saw him running his records ( he ran it in belgium). His stride is amazing and to be faire his body looks like an 17 year old. Watch him run the u20 wc this summer on youtube( he won the 800 and was second on the 1500.)
@@jenthorooms636 again kids elite regardless, but sadly east African's ages are kind of an unknown. Sometimes the runners don't even know. Be interested to see how he develops in the senior ranks.
Hey he’s a great runner. However if he is 17 or not is unknown. He could for sure be. But a lot of corruption goes on in East African specifically with changing ages

Is it possibly an age group record for Aussie kids? Nice run by all in the front. Who's the short guy in the white cap who got 2nd? Being short myself I always like seeing the short guys keeping pace with the longer-legged/big striding guys.

@@zaydxn2735 He’s legally blind can only see a meter or so in front of him and pretty blurry, have a go at running in pitch black darkness and you’ll see why it’s a category

Weird, during the whole race commentary there is no reference to the age of Myers. Apart from maybe being called a kid 50m from the line.
Hi. Because the race is an Open Grade race, anyone can run in it. Meaning U18, U20. Also, many top females run in Club events in Men's Open Grade races, to get the competition. Generally though, runners are advised to race in their specific age categories until they reach Open Status. Don't pay too much attention to those crazy American NCAA (College/University) races where they only ever seem to think that US College runners form the bulk of those competing. Especially don't pay attention to Indoor Events where 95% of the runners compete in the USA. Hence all the "world best" times etc. Ha. They don't event seem to realise that Open Grade is the next level up from their NCAA grades. Of course they have amazing sprinters at College ages (18-23). Sadly, 98% of US College athletes never survive after they leave the protected, cotton wool situation of US College and have to pay for everything themselves.
Middle distance runners get burnt out by the College system and immediately retire once they graduate, never having reached their peaks as middle to long distance runners.
I've looked at there system closely. Pros and Cons and OK for Sprinters both generally death for Longer distance.

park for inter-school sports back in the 80's i used to love discus,javelin,high jump,triple jump but that was it, As i hated running for too long as i had a little weight to carry similar to the kid out of The Goonies LOL - Jokes but yes watching you take that win was also watching strategy in play and executed well, and for those saying celebrating early cost time i think imo he gave it his all and was yearning in his well deserved victory and I am sure we will be seeing this kid on a bigger screen someday in the near future going for the 🥇Gold 🏃♂🏃- Stick with it cam my friend 😁

Where do u see 3:39.96 Ingebrigtsen as WR for this age? It appears quite a few Africans have faster times at that age and younger. Can’t find an official age WR for 1500 online other than U18 on IAAF which is 3:33.72 by Nicholas Kemboi.

@@Albinodragon80 it’s the closest we have to a World record list for each specific age group. A lot of African age group times don’t get a look at because it’s always hard to know how reliable that age is
I can't take American track & field seriously, especially when you can see dozens upon dozens of random people just milling about inside the field? If you're NOT competing then stay in the stands with the other spectators.
