This was easily the greatest 5K field ever assembled. Ever. Olympic champs, World champs and World Record holders. 2X defending World Champ didn't have a chance...that's how stacked the field.
Jakob is dangerous, he has that speed that most can't keep up, and he is slowly ending the reign of East African dominance in the sport. I look forward to seeing him take on the 10k, Half Marathon and the Marathon in the future he is still very young and as long as he listens to his body and recovers and trains smart world records are inevitable.
@@wanjiruciru6237 Will see i am sure most out there want to end the streak the East African have for the past 40 years. Their advantage is they are born in high altitude countries and run when they are children. Which gives them a 10 year advantage over everyone else hence why they always win these events. Which makes it harder for everyone else to compete at a high level.
They were teammates for a while at NAU. It’s gotta be a surreal experience to be in the world champs finals with a guy that you have shared thousands of miles, late nights, bad workouts, emotional support, etc. with
Jacob is a legend in the making...I've seen this kid develop into the world champion he is and it's good to see other nations take the crown for a change from the Kenyans, the Moroccans, Algerians, British and others...
I was there live. The most exciting thing was how the Africans starting with Cheptegei all kept trying to push the pace to take the sting out of Jacob's finishing kick. But he just floated along like it was no big deal. He looked unpressured for the entire race. For a moment on the backstretch of the last lap it looked like a few guys would be able to have a run at him, but he was just being patient and making sure than when he made his move it was at the right tiime, not too early, and that it was decisive. He just toyed with these great 5000m runners and it isn't even his speciality. He will win the 1500/5000 double at the next worlds and probably at the next Olympics too. Don't expect to see him lose at 1500 in the big meet again.
Mo Ahmed is always tripping someone up!!! Like that is your teammate!! What are you doing my guy??? Fisher’s momentum was destined to medal if he had not been impeded! To think I would pray for Bob Kennedy to break 27 mins as being the greatest feat! Then Solinsky going sub 27 by 10 seconds and now we have an American athlete who is 7th on the all-time list!! It’s absolutely unbelievable!
last night i've rewatched "Without Limits" and tonight, just about an hour ago, rewatched "Prefontaine", yet again (i've lost count on how many times i've rewatched both movies already).. and now, YT suggests me this beautiful peace of running to watch.. and the commentator's line at 2:30 ... spot on..
Why is a response, in the same vein, to an offensive comment weird? Surely it’s a natural response and a proportional slap-down to the original comment’s offensive posture. Also Karen should have a capital “K”.
I don't think Cheptegei ever ran the 5K again after this at least not in a major international race. He ran the 10K at the Worlds in 2023 and in Paris in 2024 but he knew he couldn't out Ingebrigtsen, so he stopped running them.
@XxxDeathBySnuSnuxxX Well that's true. I don't know if a white man has ever won the 5000m before this. But it was no fluke. He's the Olympic champion at 1500m. And he broke the 2-mile world record last week by 4.5 seconds. One of the oldest records in the books. Give the man some respect.
@XxxDeathBySnuSnuxxX Jakob is the best runner in the world by far. Easily the most dominant and no one even comes close to comparing rn. Noah lyles isn't close, Cheptegei isn't close, Coleman isn't close, Yared isn't close, Cheruiyot isn't close. Jakob is the best in the world and it really isn't up for conversation.
@lenamonroe4130won’t be long before he goes after that 5,000m record. he’s just been so focused on the 1500 for the past couple years. once he achieves his goals in middle distance it’s game over for cheptegei
Jakob's dominance over 5,000m will only continue. He has been shown to be vulnerable over the 1500 however, typically when guys are on his shoulder with 200 to go, and against someone who can kick as hard as him. Going past him with 100 to go seems to break him mentally. If he wants success at 1500 in terms of winning titles he has to draw the kick out of his opponents from the gun, and make the race of such a pace that only he can handle.
I wouldn't say he has dominated 5k. He has only won 2 important races, if he wins Paris Olympics now then we can talk business otherwise you don't really understand what "dominance" means. An example pf dominance is like Usain Bolt who has not lost in 8 years.
The commentary just after the finish is funny. "This is not such a strong event for him, he has only run once this year, not broken 13 minutes". Like Jakob couldn't break 13 minutes at any time if he saw it fit. He ran that one race because he needed to meet the qualification standard to be allowed to run in Eugene. I believe the standard was 13.09. But he had to go a bit faster, 13.02, or he would have lost the race. He just wanted to qualify for the World Championships using as little energy as possible. But he also hates losing races...
He ran the entire time stuck to the smaller radius. C'mon dude. He got what he deserved. Respect to Ingebrietsen for not sticking to stubborn American tactics and actually move out to grab drinks.
Grivalja could have taken the bronze if he timed perfectly. Its not all about running, but you have to be at the right spot or position. in the right time.Thats what we call tactic,he was too far behind in the 9th position with 150 m to go.thats too much.I think one guy did succed in the past and was far behind and that was EL basir of morocco to get the silver medal at the 1992 olympic 1500m final behind fermin cacho.David wattle also at the 1972 800m okympics ,but he was less far behind within 150m to go,maybe at the 5th position.
A runner finishes fourth after remaining second or third during 90 % of the race and he is never mentioned, not even ONCE. During the first 10 minutes of the race, every single runner who at some point is among the leaders is mentioned, except for this guy, who is the ONLY one who is in the leading group the whole time. Trying to understand such a bias, the only thing I can think of is that the runner, Grijalba, is from a small Spanish American country, and therefore, although he is literally in the middle of the screen nonstop for almost the whole race and appears fourth in the final list, he remains invisible to the commentator, if you know what I mean... What else can you think? It's an honest question.
Honest answer: Never heard of him and the commentators were probably the same. He was never in contention and there's no medal for fourth. He's American. He was born in Guatemala but emigrated to the USA when a year old. He's just recently run 12.52 and is now known. Expect commentators to mention him more from now on.
@@markcynic808 Thank you for the info. You don't address my point though: he may not be well-known bit he is in the picture the whole time. After all, runners who are in the leading pack for much shorter time are usually mentioned. You mention of medals is irrelevant when talking of commentary made DURING the race, before any medal has been decided.
@pirultaeee Dear me. He never had any impact on this race, never once lead and was never in contention for a medal so, no, it isn't irrelevant.
