MY STORY:
In 2016 I had been in law enforcement for 7 years.
I was not in control of my schedule, I was hardly making any money, and I was away from my family working nights and holidays. I was capable of more, and I was silently suffering. I knew I was selling myself and my family short.
I started Florida Turf Pros as a side hustle in 2016 before going full time in 2017.
My lawn business changed my life.
I control my own schedule, control my own income, and I am proud of what I have built; a business that supports me, my family, and some employees.
If you are a lawn care business owner, this channel will be a valuable resource for you.
This really is a great industry to be in, and I hope that by documenting my journey it will help you.

What if you really wanted to build route density... because you know it's what can turn your lawn business into a profit machine... what would you do??? Here's what you should do. WHATEVER IT TAKES. Door knock, 5 arounds, introduce yourself to the neighbors, ask if they need help with anything, write up a targeted sales letter to the STREET your working on... Yes, the STREET. You MUST be willing to go ALL IN if you want to make big money mowing lawns. You have to do whatever it takes to work for several hours in each. neighborhood you're in... That's the goal... SEVERAL HOURS of work in EACH neighborhood. You can do it!
Sounds like a good challenge
Well said
Working on this now. Thanks for all your videos. I’ve learned a lot from you. Much appreciation!
New to the channel really appreciate the advice and wisdom im going to start my own company once i figure all the ins and outs pricing, business model etc. keep pumping out the knowledge. Finally someone not feeding a bunch of crap out there, thank you!
Keep dropping the gems man! You are doing Gods work!
Best lawn channel 💪🏼 great info
I’m only at 12 yards per week right now I need to get some more. Been doing bigger projects with the ventrac but the mowing i need 20-25 more yards per week our yards are bigger up here much larger properties. Just got more cards out and a mass mailing hope it brings in some business.
All of your videos are informative and I take the info and apply it to my business 2 men we average 15 a day in Memphis tn
We went more residential this year and improved our route density. It works.
This is good, thank you🙏
I agree with smaller properties paying better. Also agree with route density. I’ll sure be happy when the spring grass slows down here in Pennsylvania. Right now it takes two guys from 7 to 5 to do 22 yards. Grass is very thick and needs double cut and blown. Once the grass slows down and mowing stuff like you are in video, we can do 22 yards by 2 pm. The spring grass is crazy up here. Needs mowed twice a week but that just doesn’t happen.
Ya, that's tough!
My friend in Southern Illinois cuts his yards 2 × a week. They just let him do his thing and pay for it. Crazy !
@@brandonrickbornponyexpress6574 most my customers wouldn’t pay for twice a week and second is I could never get to them twice a week. They definitely could be mowed twice a week the first two months.
@@byronrobinson8633 yeah its crazy his clients pay
Can you do a video on how you bill so many clients at once?
Depends on the lawns, regions, and sizes of gates.
Good work caveman 💪💪
Inflation is hitting clients in my area. In rural areas, there is little route density and very few small yards. Lots of 1-2 acre yards. I did some landscaping for an older woman who pays a lawn service $85 to cut 2 acres. I'm not sure how they make a profit unless they don't have the required licenses and insurance because based on the time it took, they probably make less than $400 a day with 2 people.
What do you do for the brown spots in the lawn?
Off topic, but what company did you use to turn the ranger into the landscape bed? I'm trying to do the same with my 2500.
I did 11 yards today by 2pm and tired out. Of course my route is no dense because it's for a real-estate owner so I just focused on knocking his yards out so I can get paid. But I'm trying to get more productive. 21 sounds like a goal that will take some time.
What's your start time?
@@alexrileyfoxhound5453 was on first property by 9 a.m.
@@bobbyrangel4236 Man if I could have just 3 days a week of that I could live off it.
When u know what each man is doing that is clutch. My best stop is 8 on a street and we do them 1.5 hrs.
That's where it's at... let's go!
Sad that mowing is so low in margins. Use to not be that way. and i can see doing that many lawns in a day with 2 guys. like you said they need to be close together. less windshield time the better.
We do 25-35 properties a day with 2 pushmowers and a rider john deere tractor.
That is awesome!
What kind of schedule are you making them get on? For regular maintenance
We offer weekly or biweekly service
Yeah man, nothing beats pulling up to a street and doing like four five houses.
Well, some of us have no choice but to wrk with what we have when starting out.
I don’t think he is bashing anyone. Just grind it out and as soon as you can upgrade do it. I started with a push mower and now have multiple standers and zero turns. Just make it a high priority to get the equipment because it opens up the opportunity to do way more work and increase revenue.
Jonathan, could you say what you charge for that house? What would it be front only? And front and back?
This size lawn would typically be a $55-59 lawn for us.
It's all good while you are in the truck with the guys. It's a different story when you send them on thee own.
This is true with problem employees... but not good team members. Problem employees aren't tolerated at my company.
Also, how to pick up more than say 15 or 20 a week. It's like a plateau. Even with marketing and great Google reviews
Need to door knock and ask if you can give them a quote or if they need help with anything. Door knocking is not fashionable, but if you want to make really good money doing this you have to get good at face to face sales.
@FloridaTurfPros I get it 100%. Even 5 around, you can hit, and they never respond. As far as the door knows, I agree they don't work well, especially in today's sheltered society folks won't answer or jump to social media like next door and whine about why people are knocking and call law enforcement it's totally weird.
John, we havent had rain in our area for over 2.5 weeks. Im getting crushed with cancelations due to burnt, dry grass here. I almost cant blame them, but how do you guys combat that with your business. Do you have any advice on this matter? Thanks,
Man that’s tough being so early in the season. We are having the exact opposite spring here. Raining 2 to 3 days a week and I’m taking all day rain. Really isn’t much you can do. I try lining up mulching jobs, trimming, or anything else to keep busy while the yards are toast. Good luck and may the rain gods be with you.
@@byronrobinson8633 lol thanks. I'll do a rain dance... yeah, the season is going well. I kicked ass last month, then this drought came. Next, well get so much rain, I'll be getting rained out :/ SMH
@@chriswest8147 yeah it’s even all or nothing. Never a happy medium.
Problem is it's the random calls where you pick up 1 here and 1 there within your focused area. Within a few minutes drive. I'm not sure or understand how you can be in a neighborhood week after week with letter trucks and trailer and be able to pick up 3 or 4 in it even if they are 1 street apart. It's extremely baffling.
Marketing efforts get you "into" a neighobrhood... it's the ground and pound work that builds the route density in those neighborhoods... 5 arounds, door knocking, targeted sales letters to particular streets, etc.
Where’d you get that hat?
I was wondering the same thing.
Tractor supply

Cutting with no basket, obviously save you guys time where I am in North Jersey. Everything gets cut with a basket. Most the lawns are tall some houses you’re filling up a green barrel with each house a lot of grass and it’s time-consuming.
Bagging grass would be much more challenging
Why take 2 trucks and trailers though
Sometimes I run a separate route from the crew, but today I was working alongside the main route.
I don't care how much you pay somebody. There's no way they wake up every day and say, oh boy I'm ready to do 30 lawns today. LOL ,
It’s hard work, wild concept, and not for everyone 🤷🏼♂️
Anybody talking about doing 25 to 30 plus lawns a DAY with 2 people are lying or the lawns are 1000 square feet a piece
😂 We did over 28 lawns 4 days in a row last week each lawn roughly 7-10k sq ft of turf... not hard at all.
I do 15-17 lawns per day solo regularly, with crappy route density. Each of those lawns range from 7k-2 acres.
Anyone saying that that you can’t do something, so anyone else saying that they can “are lying”… 🤦🏽♂️
Dude, step up your game. A lot of us do it.
