When you DO know the context though, mostly it just makes me feel sadness for them. They're both lonely people whose world failed them. One of them is utterly isolated and the other taken advantage of mentally and emotionally. I love how the play has this sympathy for them while making sure not to absolve them.

This production was PHENOMENAL and honestly would work great as a national tour. The staging, acting, and singing were just beyond amazing and top quality in every way. I seriously wish I could have a recording of it or just another way to watch it again...

Possibly my favorite song in the show, sung by two of Seattle's most talented! I remember seeing him in Urinetown at SMT and being blown away. Frederick is definitely a person to watch!

I was in a production of Assassins in the pit orchestra, I was 2nd Trumpet with my trumpet teacher. What a show. This especially was such a strange song. It's a beautiful love ballad until you know the full context.

I'm honestly here because of The Politician and I think that that version is better, but that's probably because they could do several takes and these people just had one.
It's also because nobody can beat Ben Platt.
Yes, they're singing live and in character. They're not just there to sing polished and pretty but actually portraying characters here. Also, I found Platt flat and totally character-less. He wasn't giving Hinckley at all.
