- Hi Guys! This video is all about what we've been up to the past 6 months. It's been kind of crazy but we're back now! Since the start of the year, we've been in the process of moving to the Scottish countryside and now we're here, we thought we'd show you guys a house tour and our design intentions ( and of course where we've been and what we've been up to). This is our first vlog as part of our home diaries series, so let me know if you want more! We hope you enjoy the video! :)

Garden Answer is my favorite gardening channel on UA-cam.
Thank you! I will be watching 😅🌱🌹
This was lovely. I vote yes for more vlogs and DIY updates. I've been watching your channel for a while now are really appreciate your point of view on design. I'm curious to know what motivated the move to Scotland.
Hi there! 👋Thank you for your kind words & for continuing to watch 🤗
Honestly lots of reasons for the Scottish mov🤣 My Mum's family are all originally from Edinburgh, so I feel like I'm coming back to my roots in a way. There's always been a draw to Scotland in that sense.
Also we just find everything is much nicer in Scotland than England (that's what we have found anyway). I could go in detail😅 But people, healthcare, nature, the sea, transport, etc etc. Weather is honestly the same as England (so it didn't make a difference to us🤣)
But we've always loved Edinburgh as a city so that was also a big factor. It's a magical city. I've lived just outside London my whole life and I still choose Edinburgh.🏛️ It has a very creative scene and it's got a strong history with creative people too; the arts & culture is what Laszlo and I love, so it felt like the city for us. We love being in Nature too, and Scotland really has endless beauty when it comes to that🏞️ I could go on😄 But those were a couple of reasons! 🙏🤗
@@dantierandbalogh Thanks so much for the kind and endearing reply which uplifted my day. Your description of Scotland sounds enchanting. I now have it on my list for places to visit 😌
I have missed your videos! Congrats on the move and can’t wait to see the new house decor/update journey 🥰🥰
Oh you are so so sweet. I felt so guilty not posting 😅 Good to be back and thank you for commenting ❤️❤️
YAY you're back! I am so excited to see you make over your new home and garden. I think our styles are pretty similar, so I will be getting lots of inspiration from your videos.
Oooh that's so great! Thank you I really appreciate you watching 🙏🙏
Welcome back guys, good to see you again. Can't wait the videos of the progress. ❤
Thanks so much!
With the terracing, it would be fun to include a destination spot towards the back, where you kind of wind your way around to ... a secret surprise little place. It will take time to build up to that, of course. Have fun with it all!
Hi Kathleen! Oh you are 100% correct! We love the idea of building a log cabin at the back; a guest room come art studio/ chill space. This is our plan but as you say, it will take time. Sending you good wishes 🤗🤗🤗
I also had no gardening experience until I moved into my current apartment with a small garden area.
I have a few tips for gardening beginners:
- Roses are wonderful, but be sure to only buy hardy varieties that are not prone to disease, they come in every "style" and type of rose. I personally love historical rose varieties that bloom several times a year, they are very easy to care for, like "Madame Boll", "Jaques Cartier" and "Mousseline" but of course that's a matter of taste...
-Blooming herbs, such as oregano, hyssop, etc. require extremely low maintenance and are a delight to bees, butterflies, etc.
There is little more relaxing than watching bees as they fly from one flower to the next.
Thank you dear! I find this very helpful❤️ We have some lavender out the front & it's fantastic to see the bees🐝🐝
Thank you for the update. Enjoy the journey, and yes, it takes time.
Also, learn to be “ok with” trying something and finding it doesn’t work, or, finding it’s better suited elsewhere in the home. In addition, remind yourself, if something doesn’t give the vib/feeling you’re after, just finding that out can spawn More Creative Ideas, which will ultimately help you get the final look you’re after. In other words, mistakes are part of learning & the creative process. Don’t “expect” mastering what you want right away. One project at-a-time can guide you in the direction of the next project. It can even take you down an unexpected path (either briefly, partially, or all-in).
Don’t be afraid to entertain trying something just to see if it will work. Sometime the knowing comes from the trying. (Creativity is like a babbling stream. Sometimes it’s a flowing stream, sometimes it’s a trickle, and sometime it dries up. If that happens, take a break, even forget about, concentrate on something else, (even nothing & go have FUN! That can often trigger ideas to get those creative ideas flowing again)!
I also think large paintings in your space will help add to the warm, cozy, homey feeling you’re looking to create, especially scenes with nature, and nature scenes with water in them.
Thank you for your advice. I do find I'm hard on myself as an interior architect😅 It's even hard for me as we are starting with a blank canvas. I definitely want some landscape photography / art (preferably of Scotland)- finding the right one is the struggle 🤣 Sending you best wishes to Wisconsin 🧀🧀

It's so good to be back, we want wait to respond to your lovely comments 🤗 Let me know if you want to see more home vlogs & what you want to see on the channel😁 Also sorry about the terrible audio in the vlog side; the small mic did in fact NOT work🤣 I will sort this out for the next vlog!

Thank you so much! I will defo be recording everything from now on! 😅📹🏡
We would love to visit Scotland and we look forward to seeing more of your new home there. Garden Answer, Laura, is a wonderful teacher for all things plants with daily videos. Happy Summer!
Thank you Cathy! There will be lots more videos coming 🤗 Scotland is just beautiful, so much to see, even though it's a small country! I will look up Garden Answer thank you for the suggestion🙏 A very happy summer to you too, wherever you are watching from ☀️
Wapakoneta, Ohio, USA 🇺🇸
@@cathyoneill9011 have a fantastic 4th of July weekend 🎆
Love this❤looking forward to seeing your renovations and design styles in your new home😌thank you so much for taking us along❤
Hi Fiona! Thank you for commenting🙏🤗 You're so welcome, I can't wait to show you the updates ❤️😁
How about putting a zero clearance fireplace in that noon under the stairs in your living room? That would be soooo cozy! Congratulations on your new home!
That's an incredible idea, thank you! And thank you for your kind comment ❤️🙏🙏
I like the vlog. It will be fun following along as you put your stamp on the house. I would love you to film antique or thrift store shopping in Scotland.♥️
Ohhhh you're so right! Laszlo and I still haven't explored any vintage shops yet... But it's on the to-do list 🤣 Thanks for commenting 🙏
OMG it was so weird to see clips of Welwyn Garden City. That's where I grew up! Wishing you both all the best for the future.
Oh my goodness Andrea!? That's where I grew up! We have just moved up to Scotland but obviously have many friends still in WGC. Your comment made my day, take care 🙏🤗
You Tube channel Garden Answer is such a great learning channel of what to put in a garden.🌸
Oh thank you I will look this up! 🙏🙏
Go glad you are back! I missed your videos. Love your channel. My favorite style is dark academia.
Oh thank you so much Nora! What a lovely comment 💗 It's good to be back! Sorry it took so long to respond 😅
I really enjoyed this video. It’s great to get to know you and to see a real life depiction of moving and designing a new home space. I am sure it is going to be beautiful.
Home buying in the US is also a long process. Once you find a home (which took my husband and I a whole year), financing is a 60-90 day process minimum. I remember the relief the day we closed on our home! I have also been noticing the difference in “country” in the UK and US. I see now why I cannot just pop to the store here and come away with the esthetic I love so much in my UK farmhouses.
Hi Annabel! Thank you so much for commenting & your kind words 🥰 Congratulations on closing your home (trust me I know the relief haha!). You're absolutely right about your country comment. I think in the UK the country is closer to cottage. We have many farmhouse buildings/ barn conversions but not really a farmhouse interior style per say; we would just refer to that as country interior style (it's so confusing🤣). I am completely jealous of the large thrift stores & Halloween decor abundance you guys have across the pond😫💔 I will be attempting to buy Halloween items this weekend (I will record it for a video) but the options are limited 😅 Take care! Xx
Make the area under the stairs a wall unit of shelves for TV, books and display items that will not make the room feel any smaller and it is also practical
Thanks so much! We will definitely be putting the TV there. Thank you for your advice 🤗🤗
Great yard- in the back of the garden looks like you have room for a green house then in the raised area I would plant vegetables and flowers there is no rule veggies must be planted in straight rows make them a curving look then plant roses by the wall on the left side- big pot of flowers on either side of the bench paint it more interesting color then trees in big pots along the cement wall and yes trees will grow in big pots.-flowers in the top of tree pots that’s my opinion just have fun congrats on new home!
Woah Brenda, it sounds like you should display at the RHS Chelsea flower show😅 Your ideas are phenomenal I will remember them. We are doing the decking area and bench next (as they are very worn and rundown). Can't decide on the right colour for the bench😅 And thank you for your kind wishes 🙏❤️
I would love to see your progress on the house.
Funnily enough, that's going to be the video THIS coming weekend 🙌🥰 Can't wait to update you😊
Can you make a video on universities of interior architecture after 12th. And all the eligibility. If possible please talk about universities in Europe.
love your videos so please show me what your doing love it
You got it! 🤗🤗🤗
what cousions should I use on leather sofas
If dark leather use white/ bright plain cushions. If wanting more of a bolder look, use multicoloured & multi patterned cushions!
Linda Vater and Sydney Dorman are two great gardening channels
Thank you! I just subscribed to them 🙏🙏
Linda Vater and Garden Answer are two wonderful You Tube gardening channels.
Thank you! Sorry I am only just seeing this now🌹🌹
can you give us another house tour vlog please love them
I will do! Sorry I haven't done any house projects recently, that's why! But we will do more 🤗
@@dantierandbalogh great I love them
❤
Sending love🥰🥰
I do enjoy your videos, most interested in what you do to your new house. But …. just a tiny thing … don’t think even Americans say “you guys” quite as much. Hope you don’t take my comment badly 😊. Keep up your good work
Thank you Carol! I know it's so annoying when I'm editing & I've found I've repeated myself😅 I can only get better at the vlogging, it will take some getting used to😅
Like the unscripted video.
But the rattling noise is not good.
Thank you Dear🙏 I know I'm sorry! The bloody camera has these separate accessories (I have taken these off now). It should be fine from now on. Sorry about that I was struggling when editing to get the sound good😅😅😅
Congrats on the move! By the way, regarding UA-cam and gardens, I've enjoyed another British UA-camr who has a channel called Gosforth Handyman. Just type in "Gosforth Handyman Garden" and you will discover that, since he is in northern England, his plants and designs might be perfect for you to adapt to your own needs!
Gosh, I wonder why it takes so long in England compared to where I live. Different laws and regulations, I suppose.
Thank you Tim! Sorry I am only just seeing your comment now! 😖 Thank you for your recommendation, I will subscribe now! 👨🌾🌻🌱 Oh yes I am so relieved the moving process is over, it was excruciating! I have no idea why it needs to be so long here! Take care 🤗🤗
@@dantierandbalogh No need to reply, since you're much busier than I am. But ain't it a small world when a guy in the middle of an American desert (I'm in Arizona) can suggest a northern English UA-camr for gardening advice? LOL!
