I'm from the US. We call your style "Eclectic"
I LOVE eclectic homes. Because each peice of furniture or decoration has a purpose, a meaning or a story. (And that's the best part)
Your home is beautiful and welcoming. You can tell that two people who love each other live there. And actually live there. It doesn't look sterile or hotel like.
    I love your home.

Love! Love! Love your lifestyle and your video you are such a great person not everyone like to take care of rentals like you do some people will say it’s not my home and I don’t have to do anything with it that is one of the reasons why I ever want to invest in a rental property because the law in the us protect the tenants and when you get your property back you send more money on the it more than what they pay you over the years. I applaud you what being such a genuine and caring person for the environment and the world at large. We need more like you this reminds me of my son when I say the world needs more like you because that is exactly what my sons teacher said to him. Good luck to you and I wish you all the success in the world.

I love the shelves, the healthy herbs & teas, the ceramic knobs, the real plants, the lovely mix-and-match furniture, the STOVE! :) and all of the unique and useful items. Your home is absolutely adorable! I'm from the US and wished they would build houses as quaint as your home. Americans have a tendency to build big homes with many garage spaces. We are so addicted to the automobile and it's kind of sad. I just love your decorating style and the location of your home. really love all your vintage/second hand furniture, especially the chairs! on the wall behind your pull out couch you could maybe add a mirror to reflect the window on the opposite side, that could give it a window-ish feel. also in the hallway you could put up shelves above all the doors, to give it a more consistent look and even more storage. :)

Love your cozy little home. We have been married for forty five years and have only ever bought three new pieces of furniture.( two of them were overstuffed chairs because at a certain age ,you really need to be comfortable)😅🤣😂. Anyway,as you change over to the warmer color tones(golden yellow, mustard?)in the bedroom, which is cozy and lovely, please do repaint the walls a creamy yellow. That icy blue gave me the chills and is opposite from everything else now. Brrrr😬. (It will also be a nice transition into the warm cream and warm green in the office.)

You have done a such lovely job with this home, it is so sweet and inviting! One suggestion is to put the bed in the corner, it might give you a little more room, and you could then use a corner shelving unit, bookcase, or table for plants, books, etc. in that corner behind the bed. Maybe splurge on a small electric or self-contained fueled heater for warmth and moisture control.
If you decide you really like this home, maybe make an offer to purchase when your rental contract ends. Sometimes people have an emotional connections with a property and don't want to sell it off to just anyone, so when they find a tenant like you who loves and cares for it so nicely they would see it as an opportunity to place it in the loving hands it deserves for its next generation. Wish you many blessings and joy in this lovely home!

Such a cute cosy house... i live in Pennsylvania in the US.. i think you have quite a bit of storage in every room... it looks great. I love the livingroom/diningroom.. of course i am partial tovthat bright green.. my bedroom is that color. It looks great with blond to natural toned wood and lots of plants plus accents of white.. plus my ceiling is the ice blue from your bedroom.. i love flat paint on my ceilings...
Your bedroom ceiling would look so great if you stripped those wood beams.. you could paint in between the beams a green like your kitchen cabinets. ... your bedroom would feel warmer. ... or a warm cream..? What is under the linoleum in the bedroom?
I love the floor in your hallway of doors.. its pretty...
I suggest a large mirror hung over your guest bed.. you could also put a single shelf all across it and prop artwork, mirrors, and framed photos, etc.. its nice because you can change it out whenever you want.

Place or hang it where it could reflect the beautiful outdoor views into your rooms. You could also add glass fronted doors to some cupboards. That would reflect indoor light and candle light which would be lovely during the dark winter months. 😉

I think the colors you chose ( green, blue & white) work very nicely together with the natural wood in your home. There is a very comfortable cozy feeling and look to it. Wow, Maria, you've done such a fantastic job. Your home looks terrific. And the property owner must be thrilled with you guys.
About the reading nook: have you considered centering the day bed and building a frame around it that you then attach bookshelves to? You'd be sort of creating a wall-to-wall reading nook headboard in a way. To each side, you could include one shelf that protrudes out farther, so you can easily sit a cup or a book. Then the rest of the shelves would continue up the wall and over the top of the daybed so it would look like it was one piece and the bed would be sort of tucked into the shelves. You could even mount lights on the frame of the shelves around the bed for cozy reading. Hmmmm, that's harder to describe than I thought. ☺

An attic and a cellar and so much hall space .The ceilings are so high I can't reach even on a tall step ladder. There is no storage anywhere no cupboards or shelves
Your videos have given me hope that with some imagination I might be able to do some things that will make it feel more like a home not just a series of rooms that don't have any connection with each other .I have watched 2 of your videos now and hope to find many more .I love upcycling recycling .repurposing.making useful or pretty things from absolute junk such as empty tea light candle foils and old cans and bottles. I have a book shelf that somebody damaged when I was in hospital and I thought it would have to be disposed of but now I will go to the local DIY store and buy a scrap of suitable wood to make a new shelf to replace the damaged one .

It was one of my favourite, if not my favourite (although the home I live in now is gorgeous!), and it was less than 500 square feet! The view from the small living room was onto the ocean. I loved that home and it was much smaller than yours. I did a lot of similar changes as you also. It was quick and fun. I lived there for four years and my friends still talk about how nice it was to visit me there! Great job on your home!

You created a visually charming space & rekindled the positive energy flow in the house. The flourishing plants are proof. Reviving many original features sustained the authentic qualities, with unique & interesting characteristics. On a base of vintage style, you added practical updates & finished with sophisticated modern influences. Together they express a lovely, cozy vibe. The home is functionally efficient & comfortable. The esthetic is nostalgic & eclectic with the ease of modern simplicity! Design of any space has challenges. It covers multiple aspects beyond visual context & requires exceptional problem solving skills. You worked with what you had, found 2nd hand things or used your imagination to upcycle or repurpose stuff. Achieving this level of success on a small budget with limited resources is an insightful creative gift.

You and Bendick have done an absolutely fabulous job with this whole house. You could easily make a living doing makeovers on other people's homes, if you wanted to. 😊 I can't imagine myself having the time and energy to do all that while working full time, but your own results must certainly give you both energy back.

Found your cottage design. Thank you for sharing your much loved space. You and your partner have really created a beautiful home. I especially love your fearless spirit of adapting and changing, and just going with the flow. The way the sun shines into your home is especially magical! For winter, I"m sure you still find a way to keep it warm and cozy. You have inspired me with using the "ice blue" and yellow color in one of your areas. ( I might use it to transform a large piece of furniture I have) Keep creating!

You said you wanted a window above the couch. My friend took an old window she found in the junk , replaced the glass with a mirror and hung it on the wall. It reflects light from the other windows. She also put a board on the bottom so it has a little shelf.

Such a beautiful house!! Love the tall seilings! The owner is so lucky to have tenants like you, that love and take care of the house so well. Love the stick on tile carpet with the soft colours in the hallway. Im also a big thrift store enthusiast and very seldom buy new things. Nice plants! The greenery is such an important detail in every room. I also like to bring nature inside. A big piece of art would be nice above the sofa bed. Easy to put up and change. The vintage sofa is gorgeous!! The green color of the kitchen cabinet is really nice! I can tell you are a nice person and know a lot about contrasting colors. Glad I found you...vintage, with character my house is the same..land lords are ok with the changes I make. I love this little old quirky, shaped house and rooms...I make it work for me. Because it's old, thrifted items and paint go a long way to bring out the charm and her potential (in my opinion) she says to me "make me pretty" I know her and she knows me now too...we're happy and o.k......byeeeee for now from So California USA.....

    Hello 👋
I just wanted to say that I enjoyed watching how you guys flipped this house over and turned it into a lovely home. Good job!
I also saw that you have a fern hanging by the window of your guest room/reading area. I could tell it wasn’t doing very good 🥲 I would suggest that you move it behind the wall so it doesn’t get a lot of sun ☀️ It does need some light but that plant needs hydration and shade. Also the monstera plant in the corner is mostly a shade plant but it can adapt to a lot of sun depending on how you take care of it 😅 so if you see the leaves 🍃 of both the monstera and the fern are not deep green you should probably move them to a place with not a lot of direct sun. Those need to be moist and hydrated. Your reading area is amazing!! A lot of light coming in ❤

Just found your channel. I never saw the light green color compliment so many colors. The plants really makes the home cozy. Oh, I almost forgot, I need to order teas. Blue is a calming color that suits the bedroom. Carpet your bedroom may help warm it during the winter. Love your office. My studio is a closed-off dining room and I have way more stuff than you. I am constantly rearranging, organizing, purging my stuff. Love watching make-over cottages such as yours.

For winter, change your window curtains to thicker curtains which has a liner on the inside of the curtain. If you guys have a Walmart or Target store there usually affordable to buy curtains in these stores.

Use a window mirror opposite the bookshelf! I have an old one from when my parents were young, it has shutters that you can open and close and the “windows” are paneled mirrors. The mirror makes the room look bigger and reflects light and actually looks like a window!!

The one I have actually matches the green colors in your home! Idk how much shipping from NY to Norway is, but I’d part with it knowing that it’s living here :-) especially because I need to minimize the amount of decor that I own in the near future. shoot me a message if you wanna see photos!

Hello, I'm just in the middle of watching this and love organizing a space. A suggestion for your living room would be to move the sofa bed against the wall by the window so when sat down you can see the kitchen then perhaps have two bookshelves on either side of the wall where the sofa bed had it's back to with a picture on the wall between the shelves and perhaps a plank of wood sat across the two shelves at the top to create shelving above the picture.
Be better if I was there to get a feel of the place or had drawings aha. Looks lovely so far! I like the sofa bed too

Interesting home tour, everything looks smart. If you have a similar colour throughout the house it can make the place feel more spacious, as if all the rooms are almost one room. I agree the blue is cold for the winter months in your bedroom, maybe some colourful curtains may add some warmth, they would need to go with your rug. Perhaps a large forest painting in your library area, after all you are Maria and the forest! It could give a feeling of you being in a woodland. You have both worked hard and you have such good ideas on how to make the most of the space in your home.

Thank you so much Caroline, and thank you for the suggestions! The green kitchen cabinet colout has for sure spread to many rooms in the house, but not on the walls though. Some warmer looking curtains are a good idea for the winter. Might also keep the cold out a bit!
      Wishing you a wonderful week!
