      tbh I think lockheeds monetary strategy is sort of stupid. for example iran bought 1000 grad missile systems for 3~ million 1000 grads could saturate a target with 40,000 rockets the cost of 1 himars is 3 million it fires six. six way more accurate rockets but you're really putting all your monetary eggs in 1 basket when that cost could be spread over 999 other launchers. any failures of the system or it needing maintenance & your entire 3 million dollar defense system is turned into a truck with very expensive roof ornaments. lockheed is a bit too obsessed with selling expensive tech toys that aren't durable enough.

    • @Melonist
      @Melonist Рік тому +241

      @@ummmhelp The Grad can, at most, fire at targets 50 km away. Meanwhile, HIMARS (and its bigger cousin, the M270) can not only equal that range with conventional rockets, but can also swap them out for ballistic missiles with ranges measured in the hundreds of kilometres.
      With artillery, range is everything; if you outrange their guns, what are they gonna do about it? Their only options are to either airstrike (and most likely get shot down by a Patriot battery - guess who makes those?), or deal with the fact that the enemy can blow their shit up at will.

      @@Melonist Gotta correct you since you made one critical mistake about your calculations comrade... those old soviet shitboxes cant make 50km lmao theyll get outranged by a marine with a UGL. Seriously thought, the grad cant do 50km. At most with range enhancing munitions itll do 35km-40km and those munitions compared to the expected use cost of the grad are waaay more expensive then any country is willing to pay including russia. This is why they made their own version of the himars just cheaper, russian, with less range and shittier. This precisely is also why ukraine is so fucking stoked about the pzh2000s and other conventional barrel artillery because whilst himars fucks, pzh2000s are more economical to use since they can reach similar destruction at comparable distances for cheaper whilst also being easier to deploy and capable of shelling areas for longer. Ukraine right now pretty much is using the himars to strike targets far into occupied territory that are of extreme importance like SAM batteries, radar and communication stations or other targets with a high strategic impotrance whilst the pzh2000 and alike are blasting bunkers or other reinforced positions, FOBs, airfields, service points etc. closer to the front.

      Meh. Part of that is tactic is giving obscurity to classified components.
      Same thing about the meme about the $1,000 per toilet seat at the pentagon, or whatever. That's just a way to include sensitive equipment in the budget, without publicly identifying the secret tech.
