In this video I show how to repair a household ceiling fan pull chain and a ceiling fan light pull chain
It is not very difficult and only costs about $5
There is no need to buy a new fan or pay loads of money to have your fan fixed, It is pretty simple to fix it yourself, so give it a try.
Make sure that you get a pull chain switch with wiring that matches your fan. mine didn't and I was able to make it work, you might not, so get the correct switch. - Навчання та стиль
I got 4 Monte Carlo Mini from coffee shop, three last week, and one last May. One of them had a wrong fan chain and a broken light chain, I replaced both with correct chains. The wrong chain was 3-way fan light switch which is 3-wire, the right chain was 4-wire and I followed the wires on other chain to connect wires to right chain. The right chain isn't the same brand as original chain but I made sure it has same exact wiring sequence. The wrong chain wiring sequence was L-1, L-2, L-1-2, and the right chain sequence is L-1, L-2-3, L-3. The L on wrong chain was connected to wire that would go to L, the 1 on wrong chain was connected to wire that would go to 2, the 2 on wrong chain was connected to wire that would go to 3. Therefore, the sequence on wrong chain was slower than low, low, and medium with lack of high speed.
Also I see you put the old chain switch back in when putting the fan back together.
Yeah the switch wasn't actually bad on that fan
@@MechanicalChaos Yeah so I take you bought it just for a tutorial.
Yea
With 3 way fan light switch on fans that's supposed to have 4 wire pull chain, it would either have more than one high speed, or no high speed at all, or maybe have 3 factory speeds working but would buzz on off position, depending on the fan. Some fans, like NuTone, DO have 3-way fan light switch.
If you can't find the correct chain in the store, you can order it online.
AWESOME Thanks
+mewrongway I'm glad you like my video
The fan's are 1. Hampton Bay Genoa (Air Cool Made) fan 2. (RARE) Alaska/Broan emperor.. there both very cool fan's if your to replace them donate them to a thrift store or Habitat For Humanity.
+TheFanMan87 i love habitat for humanity
yea rare as heck
Do i have to turn the breaker off or just the switch on the wall for it?
To be safe, turn off the breaker, but if you know what all of the wire are in the box, you could get away with just turning off the switch (and making sure no one turns it on while you are working). Best to be safe and turn off the breaker though
By power turned off do you mean just turning off the light or shutting the power down at the breaker?
+Savitar The Surfing God you would be better off turning the breaker off, but if you know no one will walk by and turn the switch on, you should be alright just turning the switch off.be careful and always test the wires to see that they are not live.
Thanks for replying do i need to get a voltage detector to do that? I wish i had learned this kind of stuff when i still had someone around to teach me if it wasn't for youtube and people like you who post how to videos i don't know what i would do. I am actually pretty proud of myself this year i have learned to fix a cracked pipe, change the car head lights, and put new tubes on our bike hopefully i can add fix the fans to that list. :)
+Savitar The Surfing God something like this tester would work, it is simple, touch one end to a ground or neutral and the other end to where power may be

I dont know which wire is which how do I fix my switch.
What is a breaker and where do I find it? I have to do this by myself and I don't want to get electrocuted. :-(
+Michelle Butler the breakers are in your electrical panel, if you don't know which is the correct breaker, you can just turn everything off
Help ! I think I did what you said. Fan goes slow or fast but doesn't STOP !!!! What did I do wrong?
+Gregory Bowen Brown could you describe what you did?
I fixed it. You did not connect the 3rd wire to anything because the switch you bought only had L, 1, 2. I went to LOWE'S and bought a switch that had L,1,2,3, and used that and it solved my problem. Thank you, Greg
+Gregory Bowen Brown glad you got it figured out
Thank you Brother ! Keep on posting your videos. It helped me.

I need to know what colors go to what colors...I have red, blue, and black...
+Paul Bonner the switch is black, blue, and red? Have you looked inside the fan yet? If so what colors are hooked up to the switch?
yes, my switch has blue, black and red wires coming from it...I did not take a picture of how it was all connected so trying to figure that out so I can put it all back together...
+Paul Bonner do you know what colors the wires are inside the fan?
there are 4 larger wires coming down from inside the fan: red, blue, black and gray. I assume one will attach to the black or white light assembly? There are 3 smaller wires: purple, red, brown(grayish).
+Paul Bonner I'm not sure that the switch will work with your fan, who made the fan?
I replaced the fan pull chain on my fan. Super easy. But now the fan will not turn off at the chain. Basically my 3 speed fan got turned into a 4 speed. How can I fix that?
+Robert Rhoades sounds like it may not be the correct pull chain. I used the incorrect pull chain, but it worked for me, you may have not been as lucky
3:06 Hear that on the TV?
Ghosts!
they're to keep the pull thing in place, not to match your fan...
