“The godly may trip seven times, but they will get up again.
But one disaster is enough to overthrow the wicked.
Don’t rejoice when your enemies fall;
don’t be happy when they stumble.
For the Lord will be displeased with you
and will turn his anger away from them.
Don’t fret because of evildoers;
don’t envy the wicked.”
Proverbs 24: 16-19 NLT - Навчання та стиль
Another reason to look at your fascia for ways to make running your model railroad easier, is to look for ways to keep operators from reaching into your layout and damaging details accidentally. You can add a small shelf along the fascia to organize your waybills, this prevents people from laying the waybills on your scenery. Cup holders for the same reason. And a holder for uncoupling tools (thats if you don’t have DCC controlled couplers).
I am adding a simple shelf using 1x3 boards. This will give me a place to put things like screw drivers, and other tools while working on my layout. It will also hold my coffee cup.
Another vote for cup holders. You can buy them from some Model RR suppliers, or get the same thing (cheaper) from boat supply vendors. They usually come in white or black and it is a square assembly that folds down (like a square drawbridge) from the facia creating a shelf, and then has a 'ring' that folds up. They can hold coffee mugs if the 'ring' has a gap in it, or red Solo cups which let you keep tools: screwdrivers, uncoupling tools, tweezers, etc., handy. When not in use they fold relatively flat and add less than a 1/2" to your facia.
Second this. I belong to a fixed layout club and around the layoutright next to the throttle plugins and throttle holders we have those fold down cupholders.
Great ideas Jimmy. Use what you have, buy what you need and make your railroad run. 🚂
The tablet and pop socket ideas are genius!!
Good video Jimmy. I will try using the old Kindle fire I have laying around.
Great suggestions and ideas as always, thanks Jimmy!
Something I have seen and implemented is using small locks to simulate a lock for a switch. It adds to the operations as before the switch can be thrown, you need to unlock it. All the locks I have are keyed the same.
Expanding on the idea of using cheap tablets as fascia mounted throttles, retired cell phones can work as well. I've a bunch of retired phones and tablets that I hand out as walk around throttles. This gives me the idea of placing some semi-permanently as throttles for areas like staging yards. if you've got cameras for viewing hidden areas, they could also be used as monitors for the cameras.
That's a popping idea! Thanks for sharing!
Hooks! Hooks everywhere on my layout.
Wow enjoyed your video very much thanks for sharing DD.
I like that popsocket idea very cool
A gimble style can holder used on boats for holding your favorite canned beverage.
A 3/16 hole drilled downward at an angle for sticking a skewer in at switching locations.
Cool 😎 vid Jimmy. Was shortly wondering about the screws with which you mounted your bins. At first glance I surely thought to see Pozidrive screw heads. Surprised as I was, I later saw they were indeed Phillips screw heads.
Anyhow, very much like the idea on the PopSockets and its holders on the fascia.
Although I like the self adhesive hooks, don’t think I’ll use those. For the ‘curtains’ under the fascia I prefer standard curtain rails. It’s just so much easier to pull the curtains away that way.
Like the idea of the kindle mount. Will have to look into that. Can’t be that hard.
Very much appreciate your practical tips and tricks, on these additions to the layout. Definitely will check some of ‘m out.
Thanks 🙏 again for sharing.
Ooooo...I like the Kindle idea. I have one that has some books from Amazon that I hardly ever use.
These are great ideas. The lighting was rather dark.
Cup holders!
Will the 3D printed car card holders be in your Etsy store?
How about a 3-D printed holder for your tablet?
A cell phone or tablet to control a railroad? The person building my railroad can’t find DCC controllers, due to Covid, China and Russia, etc. Could you do a video on phone and tablet apps?
Where are you located that you cannot find DCC Throttles?
Look up WiThrottle or Engine Driver. Jimmy has videos about these apps on his channel.
@@HumancityJunction I’m located in western Iowa. I see WiThrottle, WiThrottle Lite, and Train Driver and Locontroller. I didn’t see Engine Driver on my iPhone.
@@HVACSoldier Engine Driver is the Android version, it is not available for iPhone. My suggestion is to start with WiThrottle Lite.
What DCC throttle are you looking for? There are a lot of options available at online shops.
@@HumancityJunction NCE, I think. I notice Amazon is selling them, but no guarantee that any are available.
@@HVACSoldier If you are looking for the NCE Power Cab starter set, Iron Planet Hobbies has 29 in stock.
Or a lot of people are getting the UWT-50 with the WiFi Trax module that IPH also has.
😊
Where are the folding beverage holders?
OMG, where's the cup holder?
👍👍👍❤❤❤🚂🚂🚂
