    I'm really starting to wish I had chosen to do N scale instead of HO, just for the amount you can pack into the same space. Oh well, I'm already too invested to turn back now. Next time lol

      20+/- years working on my O gauge 23’x13’ layout. Surprise, I’m unexpectedly injured and being retired from my job (Thank God my wife is still working; we are blessed with Insurance until the Mrs. retires and/or Medicare.) Fast forward we have moved, Thank God again, into a condo with a garage, steps are just for exercise & PT. Sold my O gauge trains but Praise God my Mrs. has ok’d a s-l-o-w start, within our “budget”, so I can still play with trains, if no more than an oval with a passing siding and a siding for my imagination to think but I’m starting to work on an N Scale layout. I never would have had the opportunity to play with new trains if, but not for my God, my wife and my injury.

      yes and no more in a small space but smaller things become bigger issues in ho i was ok with slight rail gaps as long as the electricity could pass but n scale nope track work has to be much smoother than the larger scales ….wheels get smaller but cracks and bumps do not

    Really nice video, I never realized how much you can do in a relatively small space. I'm just getting back into trains after about 20 years or so and I really enjoy your content. I'm switching to N scale from HO because of somewhat limited space so learning as I go. Thanks

    It is interesting that we find a huge road diesel doing mundane switching duties in a yard. Years ago, only a 600 hp switcher would be doing these moves. Switchers went away for larger, 3,500hp diesel-guzzling road diesels. I admit, your operation sure looks cool, and very prototypical of todays car moving, nice job!.

    Aloha Jimmy, another great video- I've read through some of the earlier comments and would like to address here. Rocking and bouncing of cars on track just watch some railfan videos of local and class c/d railroads and you see that a lot as track maintenance is not always the best. trees rubbing on train cars again the same if they do not pose a risk of derailment that is not a concern of the railroad. it helps rub the graffiti from the cars.
    LOL's aside thanks for all of your work.

    Love your videos Jimmy, One thing i feel you should address is your track work in a few spot's. the shaking and moving of the freight cars on the frogs and transitions kinda kills the visual aspect. Have you added weights to all your cars per the NMRA specs for N scale as well? Otherwise love your videos and 3D printing info. Made up my mind to get a resin and filament printer for HO scale.

    • @davidf9630
      @davidf9630 2 роки тому

      I disagree. Respectfully of course. When I used to work in central California next to a switching yard, the cars were always wobbling around. Especially when they were empty. Those were almost always the ones that would derail at the frogs.

    Cool ops. I took inspiration from your industry on the switch-back. Only mine is at the end of a short industrial spur. It should make things interesting.

  • @SFCRambo60
    @SFCRambo60 2 роки тому

    I am not criticism but using your video sure shows a lot of oops, like the one tree that almost knocked your cars off the track when both backing them up and pulling forward, that the bumps at some crossing need some cleanup in isle #3 ( LOL).
    You have given me better ideas of filming my operations and watching it on a large screen and taking notes of my problems.
    I also realized how important that the cars do need to be weighed properly and the trucks need to be set correctly so there's no bouncing around. I have a couple cars that I had questioned about how loose the trucks were, well you showed it does make a difference.
    Thank you.

    Quick question do you weigh your cars? If so what do you use? I built my upper level layout as a switching layout nice to see the way you do it. Still playing catch up on some earlier vids you posted. I have been converting to metal wheels they seem to work better with Kato track if you need some plastic ones just holler.

    Jimmy, I like the pickups, sorting, and drop-offs because it feels like it's much more interactive. I'm looking to start with a 3x5 layout and was looking at the Kato Unitrack Amherst 2005 layout. I was wondering what your thoughts were on that one or if you would recommend a different layout to accomplish the functionality as best as possible based on the size? Thanks

    Got to wonder how money is spent on an empty car being moved around, especially in foreign territory. I mean UP or BNSF is rarely seen in the eastern part of the US. Oh, I can't say that I've never seen Foreign Rolling Stock or Power. I just wonder how much Railroads pay to exchange freight on a daily basis.
