I'm not a Ludeon Employee. I'm not paid by Ludeon Studios. I did receive Anomaly for free. They didn't ask me to make a review. Technically, I think that makes youtube consider this video a "paid promotion".

The Flamethrower DLC
While, not necessarily in a direction I would typically go for, there is a lot here I'm excited for/excited to see what modders do with the new additions. I do really hope they add more faction interactions and life to the world map though
I think that's what I and a lot of other people wanted TBH. There's like this whole side of the game that's not fleshed out at all... fleshed lol.

@@skumdiggery4476 I thought biotech was cool, it's all opinion bruh. Nobody even said anything about modding scene either. I think it's a cool dlc for sure. It's just not my play style.
Just expressing dying for more faction world interaction in the already awesome game.
@@skumdiggery4476 the most moddable thing in biotech are new xenotypes and genes. Which mind you people TOTALLY do!! But children are kind of just fully fleshed out in biotech, and you could add new mechs but the base set of mechs encompass most things already.
Meanwhile, while anomaly's base entities are a pretty good selection (and imo worth the money), there's a lot of potential for new entities or harder versions of existing ones. Also different levels of containment, different ways you can interact with contained entities.
Also helps that there's already a lot of existing ideas for horror enemies that people can just port into rimworld somehow.
Anomaly basically (I think?) added an expandable horror framework for rimworld lol

My biggest problem with Anomaly is that it marks a shift from emergent gameplay into linear gameplay. Compare the Anomaly ending to the Archonexus ending. You have three steps with the Archonexus, each with two objectives, but how you go about those is completely up to you. It's vague, it leaves you open to achieving that goal in many ways. With Anomaly, it's more of a checklist. Wait for X to happen, investigate. Wait for the next to happen, investigate. Yes, the form you take can be different, but it's far more limiting than any of the other DLCs. I love me some good Lovecraftian horror, but I'm just not feeling this in respect to what I enjoy in Rimworld. Given how, once you start down the path it lowers interaction with the rest of Rimworld significantly, it feels like it removes options to me. I have the same problem with Royalty these days.
To each their own, though! If you love it, GREAT! I'm not dissing it; it's an amazing DLC and Ludeon should be proud of what they released. It's just not for me personally. And I'm only saying it because if anyone else has the same feeling, you deserve to be acknowledged that you're not alone. And who knows? My opinion may change down the road.
Bro if those are the two pros and cons thats pretty sweet. So excited to get home and play this. Cant WAIT to see what the VE team is gonna do with this one. Lets GOOOOOOOOOOOO

Is there some kind of "endgame loop"? Like, for example I saw those caves you can get in and thought about randomized caves with different rewards at the end. Is there something like that after beating it?

This is an extremely good video! Very well done making a review that truly avoids spoilers, especially because the dlc deals with horror-understanding it can kill the intrigue and some suspense.

Funny enough, when I saw the announcement, I was like "that is DLC I know I want and will definitely not have on all the time" like I already had Lovecraft mods and a zombie mod or two, so having official content to do that stuff too feels pretty awesome. Like, I LOVE the modding community, but I'll take every chance I can to support this game. Their DLCs have been hit after hit for what I'm after, personally
I don’t normally comment, but I will today. This was a great video was really informative didn’t let slip any info that could spoil the experience but did tell players what to expect. Ignore all the people bitching that you can’t review a DLC without spoiling it or whining about the lack of chapters (you really need to watch the whole video to get the review since it’s not spoiling anything). You did a good job and keep it up.

Let's say I don't touch the Monolith right away, will I still be greifed by otherworldly horrors beyond my Pawns' comprehension? Like, is there an "opt-out" way of not dealing with Anomaly's content.

there is very little anomaly content if you dont poke things that should not be poked
If u only want a sprinkle of anomaly content and don't wanna interact with the monolith/progression stuff the new ambient horror option is great for that

It's a skip for me. Just not how i want my rim. Totally cool tho, just a bummer cuz i never saw myself skipping a dlc.
This is my least fav dlc. My list what I like is this.
1. Biotech
2. Ideology
3. Royalty
4. Anomaly
1 and 2 are close as I love a themed build my own species settlement run. Never been into magic 12:31 casting and do not like horror. So really I only don’t rate Royalty and Anomaly just because there not my thing. But I got it to support the devs and tbh Rimworld is such a good game and I want more DLCs to come.

Sorry, cant stand the "no spoilers" take when reviewing something. Full spoilers when reviewing. Especially when people are looking for if Ludeon's claim that "this is the biggest DLC they have done" ( claimed by Ludeon) is concerned, having "no spoilers" wouldnt suffice nor prove/disprove that claim to warrant a purchase. Good luck though.

Weird take, I like this format because I want to hear from a CC like smurph if it’s good before I decide to buy it and I want to experience the whole thing myself
@@xcbz9176 to each their own honestly. It just seems odd to call something a "review", but leave so much out for the sake of "not spoiling" as by definition any form of discussion on the topic would "spoil" it to some extent. He made another video that was exactly what I was looking for though.

@@TerrorZelle ideology is great, but sometimes when your focusing on certain things for a playthrough, it gets very irritating sometimes. ideology is still good though, just annoying to deal with sometimes

He definitely has Ideology, when he said, "the cons are theres a billion things to choose thru when you start a new game", thats the biggest issue with Ideology. When starting a game, you will sit there forever thinking about all these choices for your new run, "do i want them to live in darkness? do i want them to be male supremacists? cannibals?" So unless you know exactly what type of colony youre going with, it can really make starting a new game take a long time.
