  • In this video you'll see so much progress on the quilt that Anna has been making with me this year. I created a playlist so you can find all the other videos in this series.
    • Teaching my daughter i... It has been quite a journey for her, from choosing the fabric, so generously supplied by Spoonflower
www.spoonflower.com ,through all the stages of design and sewing to now, where she has created a quilt top, a scrappy backing and is hand quilting her lovely quilt.
I have been making what I call my 'Terry Quilt' alongside her. I was inspired by a quilt I saw on Terry Rowland's channel
    • Color Wash Quilt Scrap...
it has been a real labour of love and I really like the result. I chose some very funky fabric for my backing. Brandon Mably's Sharks Teeth! Here in the UK I get my quilting fabric from Cotton Patch
    www.cottonpatch.co.uk/
I'm not sponsored by them, they just have a wonderful range of things for quilters and are very friendly!
Over on Patreon the Advent Series is well underway where I have been making a different quilt block everyday for the whole of December, I am starting to work out the layout now and deciding how I will quilt it. This is my Christmas Gift for all my Patrons and everyone from $1 can view these videos, plus all past Advents, found in the 'Collections' feature. I am really grateful to all those who choose to support me in this way. Thank you all!
    / thelasthomelyhouse
Anna chooses the music for my videos from a subscription website called Epidemic Sound - today we have: Rosemary's Garden, Onthou, and What I Ever Wished For.
I am sending some fresh Pink Lane Bakery Mince Pies down the Lime Green Sofa for you all to enjoy and some ginger wine to warm your insides!
Have a very lovely time this Christmas, whatever you plan to do
With my love and thanks for your support
    Take care
    Love
    Kate

I just have to add…Anna, I think you’ve done a fabulous job on your first quilt. Confidence will come as you do more. There’s nothing wrong with this quilt. If you know of any trouble spots or anything you struggled with, you’re the only one who does. It is lovely! You can be well pleased. I find the joy is in the journey.

Anna is also a great daughter-in-law. The woman my son married is a sociopath narcissist. She completely alienated him from every family member and friend he's known his entire life. Until he wakes up it will only get worse. My other son has a wonderful wife.

Both quilts are beautiful. I am 74 and haven’t quilted for about 6 yrs because of husband being sick and myself as well. I can’t make the very tiny stitches anymore because my fingers are stiff so I will be doing your method from now on. I love it. I won’t use a hoop but quilt like you are doing. Thank you.

So peaceful. Reminds me of... I lived in a small town where most were employed by the same company. A beloved worker was retiring, and the whole town came together to make him a quilt. Just like a historic quilting bee. I sat next to a person who had never even held a needle. A day of coming together in joy and comraderie. Merry Christmas to all!

👍👍I enjoyed this very much. A tip for threading the needle. Wet the eye of the needle, not the thread. Moisture on the thread makes it swell, moisture on the needle eye attracts the dry thread.

Can't wait to hear what John has to say about Anna's beautiful quilt. She should make him a quilt with all carpenter tools on it. I love watching u guys stitching. I love the hand stitching too. I was in a quilting group and was more or less put down bcuz I wasn't doing it all by machine. Then the day came that they had a quilt that needed hand quilting. Who did they ask? Me. Enjoy u so much. Bless u for taking the time to share yr knowledge. Delia, Oreo and me. Luv to all. 😊

Anna is absolutely adorable! What a blessing to have her in your life, Kate. The joy of creating a beautiful legacy is inspiring and exciting, even now in my 60s. I learned to quit from my grandmother (usually playing underneath the giant quilting frame and watching the needles poke through the underside) while the women worked above me. Such incredible memories and fabric is an enduring love of mine. Merry Christmas to you and your family and thank you for your lovely videos. 💗

45 years ago when I first started quilting, I made a hexagon quilt for my husband. I did not know anything about the size of stitches that you should use to keep the quilt together. Nor did I know about the quality of fabrics. 40 years later, bad news. The thread I use was not quality thread at all it just shredded along with the ends of the hexagon because it was cheap Fabric. It was a sad day in my life I threw it out. I regret that, but I did could’ve just put it in a box or drawer and saved it for, someone who wants to see what not to do. Second quilt I made. I was very proud of that one. I sold it by the machine log cabin with stars joining the different blocks. The fabric was better than the first quilt I made, but it faded. All the black I had in the quilt, turned to brown. And then the stars with their points did not turn out right. But I didn’t know any better. I was so proud of that quilt. About 15 years after that, I was looking at that quilt one day, and I said to myself, what in the world was I thinking about those points did not do right with the seams or anything Pitiful. But I enjoyed being proud of it for those years. Am I still proud of it? Yes, I am why? Because I learned to quilt by myself, no one to help me no one to tell me the things to look for. as the years have gone by, I have made a hexagon quilt again it’s beautiful. And I’m still learning because I watch everybody tell about their ins and outs on how to make it even better. And as for my quilting, I have made several log cabin, quilts, and quilted it machines stitched it together and they’re beautiful. I called these beginner quilts of mine, my learning curves it’s made me a better Quilter. And I have learned one thing for sure. I never point out my mistakes to people that I have made on quilts over the years. They don’t even see it. So why even say anything to them. But I understand that video is for the purpose of teaching peopleand building up their confidence. Sometimes mistakes need to be said. So for the first time in 45 years, I am telling you my mistakes but I’m not showing the quilt. Thank you for your good videos that you make and sharing your experience.

Thin stuffing seems to be fashion now. I'm still in the group who need 2 inch thick stuffing. A lot of it was given to me to take away at a moving sale. She was thinking no one would want it at any price and pleaded with me to take it home. I was thrilled, and bought a good share of her left over cloth. New owner transformed the garages into sales warehouse with the leftovers and furniture she paints to sell. Each time I go, MOre cloth comes home with me. )) Still waiting for quilt students to help me use it up. Family 2000 miles away.

I think Anna’s quilt would look really pretty with a sort of half daisy quilted into the solid half of the half square. I don’t know if that makes sense but they look like baskets to me and if I did the design I would stitch the ditch on each stripe of the multicolor side and a flourish on the solid side. I’m sure it will be beautiful regardless of your choice.

Anna, your quilt is beautiful. Congratulations on a great job! Even the best quilters have dates with Jack (the stitch ripper). Mistakes/miss sews can always be fixed. Don’t feel defeated…🤗☺️

Anna, just want to say that I very made many quilts, not one has been made without its imperfections, I’ve ripped stitches out to match seams, corners or points. Sometimes I sew a piece in the wrong place on the block. I fix it and move on. Thats the beauty of any quilt, and when the binding is on I love them all. Have fun your quilt pattern and colors are gorgeous.

That was so lovely to see you both enjoying each other’s company and stitching. Anna you are turning into a true quilter planning at least 4 more quilts in your head. I hope that you will show them at FOQ and if you do I hope to have a photograph with you both. I enjoyed meeting you this year. Happy Christmas to you both. ❤️

Great job on your first quilt Anna. Love the colours. You have a good eye for colours.

You two ladies are so very sweet and lovely. I am a quilter myself and I only do a quilt the way I want and it’s so fun that way. My husband passed away two years ago and I haven’t been quilting but as I watched you both today you have encouraged me to get back at it! Thank you so very much! So all your fun and work you two have been doing is priceless. Love is the key. Best Christmas and new year to you both and I will be looking forward to New Years Eve and hope I can say I am back at it. ❤

Susan, I also am alone when quilting, except when I watch someone who has a quilting video on UA-cam. I would love it if my daughter or one of my daughters-in-law or a granddaughter wanted to learn but instead I am making quilts to hand down to all of my family. I am 76 and I only started quilting during Covid so I am trying to catch up with quilts to leave to my family and friends. It is such a wonderful thing to cut and also feel the beautiful fabrics as they get sewn together. Happy quilting to you Susan.
