  • I so enjoyed this visit from Chris English a few weeks ago. It was such a pleasure getting to know him a bit more and learning all about the fascinating ways in which he works with fabric. He is a very individual and creative quilter - I felt so inspired after he had left! As I explain in the video, Anna and I filmed so much, that we have enough to make a couple of videos for my Patrons as well - the first of which will be posted this coming Friday (7th of June) so keep an eye out for that, if you are sat on the Patreon end of The Lime Green Sofa!
It really is the support from my lovely Patrons that allows me to keep the sofa cushions plump and the plates of biscuits and pots of tea plentiful on The Lime Green Sofa and so for that I am very grateful! You can join them here for the price of a coffee or a craft magazine and watch the content there back to the start of 2019! Look in the feature 'Collections' to find what you are looking for!
    / thelasthomelyhouse
Over on my website you will find much more! Here you can shop for some of the things I use in my craft room at The Last Homely House and sign up for the monthly newsletter.
    thelasthomelyh...
My daughter Martha and her partner Adam have just made a beautiful new set of cards for my shop, inspired by all the garden birds that come to visit me in The Last Homely Garden - if you fancy a set - thelasthomelyh...
The music in this video was chosen from Epidemic Sound and is called
    Happy Go lucky and Textures
There is always so much going on here and over on Instagram - kateatthelasthomelyhouse - you can keep up with some to it!
Thank you so much for watching!
    Love

I've been smitten by Chris's work for some time. I'm a person who is irritated by anything in a straight line or same texture. Consequently, my quilts are unique and personally designed. It took awhile to accept this part of myself because I kept fighting with other peoples ideas of what should and shouldn't be. Now, I cherish my work and am so thrilled with my pieces once they are completed. Chris is my inspiration.

I love Chris! He quilts like I do creative mending. When my quilts are torn or have thinned spots, I dig into my stash and mend them with different fabrics and embroider them in place. Old quilts should never die. Thanks you Kate for hosting Chris. The more I learn about him the more I’m amazed.

I loved this episode. Chris is great, a unique artist. Kate, you are doing such a great job with lifting up people. You are a people-lifter-upper, lol. You have the wonderful talent to see potential in unusual folk, and you help them to shine their light. You must be an undercover angel, admit it, haha. Love it so much. My heart goes out to you and everybody around you. So thrilled to be part of the community here and the lime-green sofa.

The Bear Claw block was the block that got me hooked on quilting. It was an orphan block, and I was obsessed and fascinated on finding out "how" it was sewn. I learned how to wash this block with care, laid it out flat to dry and gave it a proper place in my sewing room. Since then I've made one myself....loving it.

Dear Kate, dear Chris, really loved your video and the little chat about quilting and fabrics. I like that Chris actually represents the original Patchwork to me. Using what you have and what you like and just "make it work" for you. For some quilters you have to use the most expensive materials to have a proper quilt and that is not my thought of quilting. I want to bei thoughtful about my materials, use what I have and also upcycle material that would be tossed by others (e.g. little scraps). So Chris is a great inspiration for me - Just as you are as well, Kate ❤ The little bear paws at the end are adorable. They remind me of cornflowers. Regarrds from Germany Stephanie

But when I saw your excitement at things he brought and thing you showed him that you had in your stash that level of joy that came over him, came over me also. I was smiling and in my mind I was digging in that stash with the two of you. I had so much fun. It was a downer for me when the video ended and there I was sitting in my home alone. I was truly aware of hour your fun was affecting me. I was so shocked at the joy I was feeling with you two having all the fun. I think it really was an out of body experience! Oh Kate, thank you for bringing Chris to the Last Homely House and filming him for us. I remember him from the quilt show and his work is fascinating!

Ooh! Loved that Chris included a Signature Quilt in one of his group quilts! They were done to raise money for the war effort so, depending on the fabrics, it could either be from WW1 or WW2. X
