David Winters, a famous choreographer, did most of the shows. Don't know about this specific episode. Donna McKechnie was one of the dancers in the first year. She went on to fame on Broadway. The lead Dancer here is Suzanne Charney who also found success on Broadway. Michael Bennett was another well-known dancer seen on Hullabaloo.
@@MostlyBrenda Their energy is amazing... you can see how exciting this time was, where music and expression were changing.. the enthusiasm is really moving. Were these live productions?
@@MostlyBrenda yeah, you really get the sense of something live and spontaneous. The enthusiasm and energy of that time is moving & really something special.
Notice how Brenda, in NYC and speaking to a national audience, assumes a neutral accent when introducing Barry McGuire at the end. She's really quite southern sounding in real life, but sings in many languages and speaks several fluently. Is this an entertainer's desire to communicate to the audience or is it related to her talent which allows her to hear and repeat sounds very easily. Once, in an interview, she did recognize that she sounded different depending on the locale, calling herself "a chameleon" in that regard.
Mostly Brenda that's for sure my friend her mind is so quick that that stuff just comes natural to her. Not sure what my favorite Brenda song is, I like 'em all, BUT WAIT!
My husband's cousin was the drummer for the Kingsmen. He still has the original drum set used on Louie, Louie. Too bad Hullabaloo did a poor job of showcasing them in this episode.
Brenda's performance was as good as they come. Here she is on with the Rolling Stones while the "Silver Beatles" (John, Paul, George sans Ringo) were her opening act in Germany before the Fab Four hit it big. She's also performed with most of the other greats. Don Hicks
She is singing live into a recorded musical track. The Stones are too (every act on the show is singing into prerecorded music). The show did a excellent production job on her number. The music, the choreography and Brenda's vocal all sparkle. The staging even made her look tall!
Believe it or not, Barbara McNair appeared in an episode of Mission Impossible!!! And believe it or not, Keith Richards once sent an autographed poster of himself to Brenda Lee's home!!! (years later of course)
You can see the Keith Richards poster at the end of this video. Go to 25:43 . McNair appeared in several TV series in the 70s and 80s, The Jeffersons, Vega$, Mod Squad, McMillan & Wife among them. See IMDB for more.
She said no in our interview video. See ua-cam.com/video/E26o3xZO4qs/v-deo.html . Either she forgot or maybe the Stones taped their part earlier(?). Maybe some Stones expert knows the details of appearance.
I don't think the Stones taped their part or they wouldn't have been in the intro (still possibly). I can say this though, at times people think these groups are there when they really aren't, but yeah they could have taped their part to make it seem like they're there. I did notice that the Stones weren't seen at the end or maybe they just didn't want to.
Didn't have hits, but he did perform in clubs for a long time afterward. Some time after I posted this, I noticed that they apparently had to do a retake of something he messed up. At 23:30 he finishes the line and then there is an abrupt cut to the next line.😮
as a kid, Hullabaloo was the ultimate in TV , now hummm ... nice to group Brenda Lee and the Rollin' Stones as the only acts that endured. .. did he say Donna Warwick. Barbara Mcnair ?, gotta Wikipedia that one
davidrlfield Yeah, he meant Dionne Warwick, misreading it or maybe it was a typo on the cue card. I should probably work up something in the description for all of the acts. McNair was a fairly popular entertainer on variety shows and nightclubs but not so much known for recordings. She was notable for having her own TV show circa 1970. The first black female to do so, i think.
@@MostlyBrendaMcNair was an extremely accomplished vocalist from the mid 50s to the mid 70s, she recorded several excellent albums with Motown including this single, which is considered a classic, she had her own show for 2 seasons, made a film with Elvis...

Brenda's 'Sweet Nothin's' is one of the greatest rock songs...
The live dancing is amazing... this is what show business is really all about... the real deal 🙂

The shows were taped before a live audience. Most acts sang live into a soundtrack which was recorded specifically for Hullabaloo.@@pdquestions7673

Small update: David Winters(1939-2019) was indeed the choreographer for this episode. (He is in the end credits.) @@pdquestions7673

That opening number, though, who knew ol' Barr was so light on his feet?
Very good! I love this kind of songs!

Nice! Maybe the Rock Hall would be interested?

Barry McGuire , popularity lasted as long as the Nehru suit
