Happened at ours too. Two Catholic priests who hung around my younger brothers too; convicted of many many cases of SA against boys and young men some from church choirs. I hate them. One did my grandparents funerals and my step dad's, my mam was going through terrible grief and mental illness due to losing them all within 3 yrs. The younger priest who worked in our school used to take us to events, even a swimming pool once, where we were told adults as in our friends parents would be there, but they weren't. And in our cubicle changing room we were then stuck with this sick priest, joking about the boy's private parts. I had no idea this was a dangerous situation we trusted him. One of the kids came from a family of police officers. The other child's family were devoit Catholics, and a more upper class than us; we were Catholic but not always practicing, tho going to Catholic schools we were at church a fair bit. My mam lost her mam, partner and dad within 3 yr as a kid I had to grow up fast and as the big sister look out for my siblings as my mam was going through breakdowns, shes also narcissistic and treated me awfully a lot of the time, including physical assaults, and taunts up until I was in my early 20s and decided enough was enough. My dad is an alcoholic with mental disorders and hes been told he has Autistic traits too, which I'm also waiting for an assessment. This priest acted like he was an uncle😢 The other older priest knew my mam for many yrs, he wrote to us from his holidays to places, lots with very vulnerable and poor families and children, it sickens me. They were protected and only convicted as old men. One is dead and the other was released then sent bk to jail again I'd imagine the Catholic Church will still protect this P.O.S.
I grew up in Mcallen and have heard about this case several times. So happy she finally got justice but so upset that this man got to live a full life before being convicted.
What’s struck me is that no one, not anyone from the murderer’s family came to the court to support him. Normally you’d see at least the wife or one of his children. He had no one, not one single person who knew him would offer support. That says a lot about this man. I am appalled at the Catholic Church. How did these men sleep at night?
Lack of conscience allows them to sleep as well as continue their predatory behavior. Evil by it’s very nature must cloak itself as something other than what they are. Evil isn’t gonna show up rockin’ a red body suit with horns and a long tail toting a pitchfork. What better disguise is there for a predator? Unless it’s mommy dearest-they also get away with faaarr too much abuse because of the label.
A man like that, could just as easily prey on his own blood too. When you get away, not once, but several times, you start to feel superior, and that's dangerous. Especially for those people who are in his sight. 😢
Yes, and the catholic church is completely apostate when it comes to true Christian doctrine. The reason evil is so prevalent there, is because God (The Holy Spirit) only lives where truth is proclaimed. He is a million miles from these houses of evil. John 4:24 KJV God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
That's the Catholic Church. They fought every single victim of child abuse in court and when they had lost so many they apologised for their actions, hired a PR firm, got a new Pope and tried to act like they were moral again. They even set up phot opportunities by hiring children to run on stage with the Pope so he was seen as caring for children. Those were all manufactured as part of a child rape cover-up. How sick is that?
Of course they do. Some, at least. I watched a Lifetime movie based on a true story the other day here on UA-cam, called Sinister Minister. Its a perfect example of just that.
Some of the most deceiving people are religious and use it to gain trust that is undeserved. I think you’re on the right track. The Catholic Church has done an insane amount of damage over the years though, or at least in my humble opinion.
It's been a while since I've cried. I was moved by the sheer will and determination of the prosecutor to see this through. I cried for the victim and her family. Thank you covering this trial.
"When pigs fly will you get your indictment." What a thing to say to someone wanting justice carried out for their friend, who attended church every Sunday and confession every Saturday. More than the one should be serving time. Some D.A. Rene Guerra was. RIP Irene Garza. 🙏💫💖🌱🌎
Yup Alot of people failed that day. And only God knows what was in their hearts. But trying to deny justice because your sgo would be bruised is not a good reason. I bet the pigs were surprised that day too. She got peace. And he got justice served. What bothers me is that it took 57 years. He lived a life. Had a family a wife kids. In now he's a little old man. But God doesn't t see his age. He looks at intentions actions . And if he was guilty. He had an opportunity to admit it and take his punishment. But... he didn't. Even then. So he meets God as an unrepentant soul. Not going to be a good day for him.
Denying his crime is the act of a moral coward but trying to blame the other priest taking confessions that night is despicable. What a wicked man to take the life of that beautiful young woman.
@@ailleananaithnid2566Right. I agree. People are dumb and emotion-driven. Doesn’t matter if she was hot, 40s, 20s, 70s,chubby-type, plain-looking. She was a human being who didn’ t deserve to be raped &murdered. No one does .
@@ailleananaithnid2566 It's instinct that drives us to admire and feel attachment to beautiful things. Nature, buildings, animals, people. If something is deemed beautiful, then we automatically ascribe it more value and experience more grief if it is lost. So no, it probably would not have been considered to be as tragic if she has not been physically beautiful. This is a fact of life that absolutely unfairly discriminates against people that aren't as good looking, and I'm sure there are many, many victims who have not gotten the attention and mourning they deserve because of this.
I read a comment once that said, Most people just aren't good looking. I had never thought about it that way before--a simple observation. We are emotionally swayed by beauty. Beauty is prized because it is rare.
What a piece of work that DA is. Even after the conviction of a murderer he says he has no regrets about not pursuing justice for that unfortunate young woman. He is essentially admitting that he would be ok with justice having never been served instead. It is one thing to believe that prior to a successful prosecution, but to maintain that position after justice has been done speaks volume as to the nature of his character.
He is hanging on to life by a threat yet he won’t admit guilt and spare people of the trial! RIP Irene Edit: most of the replies are about me not spelling “thread” correctly! It was my mistake sorry for that 😅
This is exactly why people have a hard time with religious organizations. They are willing to let predators get away with horrendous crimes all to save face and prevent negative publicity. May Irene's soul rest in peace.
So sad her parents passed away before hearing the sentencing and getting justice for their daughter. I clearly remember that day snowing and had no idea the trial was going on. Im just glad justice was granted.
Shame on the catholic church. Shame, shame, shame on them. Please keep this story current on UA-cam as a reminder of the injustice to this young woman by the catholic church and it’s system.
I love how the one woman(forgive me, I forget her name) said to the media after the verdict was in. She said, "After 57 years, we have found justice for Irene. And for today, PIGS ARE FLYING!" Wonderful dig to the old DA who wouldn't help out with the case or even attempt to prosecute. He took a big L with that!
The prosecutor did a great job, including his interviews with 48 hours. So sad this lovely lady was killed. The prosecutor’s determination really honors her. Thank you, sir.
The fact that none of his family showed up in court to support him suggests they weren't all that shocked by the charges. Makes you wonder, doesn't it?
FINALLY. I have heard about this cold case for YEARS. I could not be more satisfied with the final outcome. Kudos to the jury for doing what was right after all these years.
What’s horrifying is how many knew and weren’t horrified that a priest assaulted and murdered a young woman knowing she was in confession at the time he preyed oh her. Evil cowards.
This just makes me sick to hear the church protected that monster. Over the years, we continue to hear how they protected all their rapists priests and pedophiles. Why people accept this is beyond me..
You're not allowed to question the authority of the Roman Catholic Church. Good Catholics don't question them. If they did, they wouldn't be Catholics any longer... not by excommunication, but by voluntarily leaving the church. Like I did, at the age of 9 years old.
“ We are going to keep him in a monastery for life.“ Not! How do you ever balance his 57 years of freedom with his life sentence? You can’t. Thank God for the good guys who put them away!
It's kinda interesting that he actually lived to spend the time in prison, considering when it happened and that he could have died by the time of the trial. Not only that, but even after all the evidence was found it took years for the trial to take place. He was old even then, at any point he could have died, but he didn't. He lived to be prosecuted, and sent to prison and actually spend time in prison.
Growing up in the Roman Catholic faith, we totally trusted the Priest. He was a total extension of God. That was until I was left alone with him whilst my mother and aunt m made a cup of tea. The dirty old ba***rd started to rub my little thigh inappropriately. I was 7yrs old. Fortunately, my mother always taught us as children, if something didn't feel right, we were to tell her. I immediately got up and went into the kitchen and told my mother. She confronted the Priest and told him to leave. She reported it to the church. He was moved to a different parish. This was brushed under the carpet by the church. There had already been 5 other reports from parents about this Priest. It is disgusting. The amount of child sexual abuse under the disguise of the church is disgusting!!!
That is disgusting and I’m so sorry that creep touched you inappropriately. The fact that there were 5 other reports means there were likely many more kids that it happened to, but they were scared to speak up.
As an X Catholic sixty years ago priests had power over their congregation. My older sister at sixteen had a priest corner her and put his hand up her dress and tried to kiss her. She escaped and sadly kept it a secret because she knew people would blame her She felt her would have raped her if she didn’t fight him off
@@hayeslincoln3111 it would do it for me. I, on the other hand, have weighed the facts and “evidence” and have determined that religion is a crutch for the weak. If I can’t see it, hear it, measure it, touch it or taste it, etc, then I put it in the fantasy category.
So did Thomas. So your sister had a sleezy guy who happened to be a priest put moves on her. So you left the faith.. I'll bet that in your current place there are people that you find sleezy. Do you move from your neighborhood leave your job. My point is your reason for leaving is to me very flimsy. I know you just couldn't t confront the clergy back then. But to leave because of something that happened to someone else to me is weird.
I am nearly 80 now but was brought up in the Roman Catholic church. I found out at an early age what priests and nuns were about and fortunately my Father saw through them and took me out of catholic school after he had given the headmaster a piece of his mind. I never really understood what was said but received an apology from him. That was on a Friday and on Monday my sister and I joined a new non-catholic school. I have never had anything to do with the Catholic faith ever since (I was 10 at the time) and have never understood how the cult of Roman Catholicism is tolerated throughout the world. It is simply evil and impoverishes people throughout the world.
Poor woman.. Imagine how devasted she must of been when this very devout woman starts to get fondled and sexually assaulted by her priest. The confusion and horror she must of felt. And betrayal. It's just horrible that this godly woman was killed by a so called godly person themselves and then to have it covered up by the church that she loved so much. It's appalling...and despicable behavior from them all. And her poor family dealing with this cover up and pushed to be forgotten. It's just terrible....

The DA was despicable. The defense attorney was just doing his job. He didn't even claim that Feit was innocent as much as he was arguing his alleged lack of evidence.
I'm so glad I watched this episode. What a tragic, dark and evil case this was. Irene did not deserve to be killed, and her death did not deserve to be treated like this by so many people in authority. It sickens me to my soul. The church, law enforcement, those in high places in the media, politicians. All of them complicit in her death. I am happy the monk came forward with the information he was told by Feit. As much as it was late, he did what he could to make sure Irene got justice. I don't believe the other priest was responsible for her death. There isn't enough to justify that he did it. God bless the lawyers and police officers who reopened Irene's case and fought for her. We can only hope that if something ever happens to us or our loved ones there will be people like them who will fight for us.
It bothered me that the monk said he finally told in order "to clear his conscience". Not because it was against one of the most important Commandments, or to spare the family decades of pain. For his own ease. SMH
I come from a Catholic family, my uncle was a Priest. The Catholic church always protects it's Priest's. They just move them if they mess up at one Church, they usually transfer them to another in another state. If they are accused of molesting boys they move them and send them for 'rehabilitation'. They almost never pay for their crimes against children.
They will pay, sometimes not in this world...... He was a wolf in sheep's clothing, when will people wake up and realise the Catholic Church is not of God,......
When I was about 5 years old, our neighbor was a housekeeper for a priest and she told my mother about all the sexual escapades of the priests she worked for! It's certainly not news that priests are often notorious for their secret sexual affairs! I learned long after age 5, that the problem is far more prevalent than many years ago! It is something that religion needs badly to better monitor itself about! Religion has either condoned the sexual practices of their leaders, or modified them, but some of them are STILL wrong in the face of the law and certainly of moral codes! I am not a Catholic but I've learned that they don't tell their own members of these "anomalies" yet many are aware of them; I guess it's their dirty little secret!
She was so young and beautiful, generous and probably a wonderful teacher. My heart breaks for her family and friends. Her poor parents! Now that I am a parent, I understand the devastation that losing a child would be. The way law enforcement and the church covered the crime up is horrible. I'm so glad that after all of these years, her remaining family members and her friends finally saw justice. But..."Justice delayed is justice denied."
Rest in peace, Irene 🙏 ❤ you were a primal example of perfect young lady that would of been a perfect Mother and wife ❤️ you've never been forgotten and never will😢❤
The defence saying is it just to impose a sentence on a man who was different 60 yrs ago, do you really think he's going to live 57 yrs in prison - Let me say this to that defence lawyer, did Irene get the chance to live 57 yrs, did she get the chance to marry, have children, live her life to old age like Feit did?
I am sicken by this story. I was raised in the Roman Catholic church and never experienced anything strange or nefarious. Shame on all who hid the truth. They will never escape the eyes of God.
It’s a shame that Irene was killed in the most sacred place and by a priest! I hate to say this, but there’s so many in the churches that hide behind Christianity. I’m elderly now and consider myself a Christian although I quit going to church a long time ago. I have a personal relationship with God Almighty and only talk to him,..that’s all I need. I’ve taught my children the same. The things I’ve seen,.. the things I’ve learned,..the things I’ve read about things that go on in the churches, made my stomach turn. It’s best and safer to have your own personal relationship with God in my opinion. You just can’t trust anyone 100 percent in this world,.. only trust yourself.
I know so many people that have left the Catholic Church because of how they handle CSA by their leadership. They even have regulations about "seductive" behaviour of children. They blame the victims left, right, and center. It's disgusting.
Justice delayed is justice denied. The only way to get justice for this young lady now is to hold accountable ALL those that covered this heinous crime up.
As a correction officer, I’m impressed by the fact that the family isn’t all “blah blah blah he’s innocent” like almost always happens no matter how damming the evidence…
He's a Catholic priest, he's not supposed to marry and start a family. His parents are dead, if he had any siblings they might be dead aswell. That's why nobody showed up.
Not just the Catholic Church either. Stories of SA and cover-ups have come out of the Mormon and Southern Baptist Churches in recent years that would curl your hair. Three years ago, the youth minister at the Methodist Church in my hometown was arrested with a terabyte of piddie korn on his _work_ computer. He was also married with two young kids at home 😬 I've never heard what became of that case, no trial nor any news about whether any of the kids at the church had been victimized. I google the creep's name every so often for updates, so far nothing.
I look at these old killers and it is so easy to feel sorry for a frail old man, but there is no remorse in them, they still knew what they had done, lived a full life, married, had kids, it's rather sickening...I often wonder how the wife, kids, grand kids feel knowing someone they love is capable of such horrors
What that poor woman went through is difficult to contemplate. I'm so glad they finally got him ~for Irene, her family and friends. 🙏 Rest In Paradise, Irene.
If you look, Feit is very arrogant. From the early pix, to the end. He had the backing of the church, the top echelon of the community to the former DA - he was confident - and cocky. At the end when he doesn’t want to testify - he talks right over the DA - who then interrupts him. He did this. He was a WOLF and a disgusting human. RIP IRENE 🙏

John Feit died in prison in 2020 of a cardiac arrest. Although he didn't live long enough to pay for his crime, he has now been judged by the God he once devoted his life too. RIP Irene ❤
Such a kind and giving woman. She was beautiful on the inside and out. I hate good people like her have to have a horrible death like this. Rest in peace Irene.
He DID WIN, because he lived a Full Life, unlike his victim...and a Lifetime of having his CRIMES HIDDEN. I say crimeS, because I am quite certain he has committed more abuse, and more than likely a number of Murders. Too many Predators, Pedophiles and Murderers hiding behind the charades of Religion 🦋💙 *RIP IRENE GARZA* 💙🦋
For those who believe in God or a higher power, he has a more permanent eternal justice awaiting him after he serves time here on earth. I hope that helps her family (and the many other victims he most assuredly caused harm to) find some comfort.
The police also cover it up. Back then they really didn't care to much about Hispanic (Mexican) as they were called. Their was a lot of discrimination.
Here’s a weird perspective: Imagine being that creep’s kids and knowing if Dad had gone to prison back when he should have they wouldn’t be alive. Talk about an existential crisis. 😵💫😳
There’s been an immeasurable amount of blood and heartbreak left in the wake of the Catholic Church over the last 2000 years. All in the name of a man who told us to love each other without condition.
I think about this all the time. These are only the ones we hear about. Maria Farmer went to the FBI a decade before anyone did anything. Law enforcement were intimidated by Epstein and his wealthy friends, Pres Clinton, Trump, prince Andrew, Dr Nasser, Bill Cosby etc.....

Katholischen Priestern ist es untersagt, Frau und Kinder zu haben. Zölibat - das mag der Grund sein.
@britbalz they said at the end he got to marry, have children and live a full life. He must have stopped being apart of the church at some point.

Yep, so heartbreaking.
Yes, and the catholic church is completely apostate when it comes to true Christian doctrine. The reason evil is so prevalent there, is because God (The Holy Spirit) only lives where truth is proclaimed. He is a million miles from these houses of evil.

Covering the truth and defending a killer.
Shame on all who had been involved in this dark story.
Sadly not the first time, not even the hundreth

Of course they do. Some, at least. I watched a Lifetime movie based on a true story the other day here on UA-cam, called Sinister Minister. Its a perfect example of just that.
the church is very well known for protecting people who do evil things, so of course evil people love to gravitate towards it.
Altruistic narcissism runs rampant in churches and similar groups. Participant beware!

It is something that religion needs badly to better monitor itself about! Such a kind and giving woman. She was beautiful on the inside and out. I hate good people like her have to have a horrible death like this. Rest in peace Irene.
Well said. Rest In Peace Irene. ❤
My grandpa died when I was, 4⃣.
I'm 47.
I remember his face vividly.
This grandpa doesn't look anything like 'everybody's grandpa' at all
He doesn't look like my grandfather either.
God made it snow ❄️ because it was so remarkable to see justice after so many years
He DID WIN, because he lived a Full Life, unlike his victim...and a Lifetime of having his CRIMES HIDDEN. I say crimeS, because I am quite certain he has committed more abuse, and more than likely a number of Murders.
Too many Predators, Pedophiles and Murderers hiding behind the charades of Religion
🦋💙 *RIP IRENE GARZA* 💙🦋
For those who believe in God or a higher power, he has a more permanent eternal justice awaiting him after he serves time here on earth. I hope that helps her family (and the many other victims he most assuredly caused harm to) find some comfort.
😔
It's absolutely shocking, the cover up of this and by police makes me sick
It's the church. Get your facts right.
he kind of was protected by police as well as they didn't follow up more even before the church got involved
The police also cover it up. Back then they really didn't care to much about Hispanic (Mexican) as they were called. Their was a lot of discrimination.
I’m so sad that he was free, living his life protected by the church all these years💔 may Irene rest in peace😢
Imagine how many murders were unsolved throughout all of history.
Yes and the "god" that sat there and watched and did nothing! Maybe he doesn't exist 💯
@@MilkyWayGalaxyy maybe ur too arrogant. God exists
@@SamehAlshawhatino he doesn't its all sick and made up stop forcing people to believe
"The men at the time that did wrong" ? These men still do this in the Catholic/Christian churches.
A man of church... how I'm not surprised! The stories are endless and are still happening to this day!
I wish there are more good lawyers like you. God bless!
What an amazing case!!!!Thank you to all who sought Justice for sweet Irene who is most definitely in heaven with our Father!!!!
It's NEVER too late for justice.
“ You can speak with spiritual eloquence, pray in public and maintain a holy appearance, but it is your behavior that will reveal your true character!” -Steve Maraboli
What was up with that nasty DA? Why was he so against JUSTICE? And to say that he had no regrets after he was convicted by a jury is disgusting.
I literally live 5 minutes from that church. I was raised catholic and did my first confession and communion there, it feels sick that something awful most likely happened there. It feels awful that the church and rectory are still there and open and as a little girl or even teen I had no idea this happened.
