Hello there I have a 08 cadillac CTS 3.6 L auto and RwD I need that center bearing support do u have one and how much it's for my shop let me know as soon possibly
Really nice video. Helped me a ton. Quick note for anyone doing this on jack stands in the drive way. You do not need to remove 02 sensors nor do you have to remove the full exhaust. You can manage to disconnect the exhaust at the cats and remove the support to let the exhaust hang in the driveway while you work around the drive shaft to get it removed. It may make easier access in the long run but definitely not worth the hassle in my opinion. Thanks for the video!
Excellent video. At first I thought the commentary was over dubbed but the mechanic is actually speaking as he goes along. Superb description, flowing and prescise and not easy to do whilst you're focused on the task. Well done. Nice clear, well lit photography too.

This procedure deals only with 07 and prior CTS, the 08 and newer use c/v joints on the shaft and are serviced differently ! I was no able to find procedure on utube for these cars, the common cure was a $1200 driveshaft ! I went to my parts supplier who found that Dorman supplies the hanger, part # 934-620, and replacement takes a little time, but not impossible ! Start with dropping the exhaust by removing all the rubber hangers at the mufflers and the tail pipes, letting the exhaust rest on the cross member, then remove heat shielding and mark a straight line starting at the differential and running the whole way down the shaft to the transmission flange ! Using a long extension and a torn bit, remove the bolts holding the shaft to the tranny, then the ones holding the shaft to the differential ! Remove the two hanger bearing Bolts and the the driveshaft, it might need a little pry to get it clear of the flange, and pull it straight out the back . Mount the shaft in a soft jaw vice and separate the two halves by removing the bolts holding the C/v joint together, a few light taps should separate it, you then remove the snap ring holding the C/V flange to the shaft and remove the flange ! The small boot clamp has to be removed and replaced ! The hanger bearing came right off with a light pry between the assy and the dust flange, the new one slid back on ( the new metal dust flange was too large, so I tightened it up a bit, wiped a bit of JB weld on it and tapped it on ) I regreased the C/v joint and reassembled the shaft and installed ! I am a certified mechanic with 40 years experience, but someone with mechanical skills and a home garage could do this !
Thank you sir. What were your symptoms? I was wondering about this as 2008 is the start of the second generation CTS and quite a bit is different, like the third differential housing bushing location that often fails on 2007 and below, that has now been relocated to the rear of the differential resulting in a tripod mount arrangement that does a better job of distributing the anti-torque loads, not to mention it makes more sense than the previous design. I'm curious as to what your symptoms were. I have an 08 CTS rear wheel drive automatic. On firm acceleration from a stop I feel a firm bump beneath the car, and some times I get a vibration at cruise speed although not often since the car is not driven hard. I don't hear any noise and the tire wear is dead even front and rear, to rule out suspension parts. I strongly suspect the carrier bearing and that the thump I feel is the shaft lifting up under load. I haven't had a look at it yet. I have the GM shop manuals for the car and saw pictures of the joint configuration used in place of the of the old style universal joint. That was also a good upgrade.
Thanks for the write up, for me the hardest part was the taking off old bearing. I ended up splitting it with a grinder and it came off. Asides from that, i need new exhaust flange bolts because mine were extremely rusty. Highly recommend buying them if your going to be doing this job. For what ever reason, my drive shaft didn't have a slot for a snap ring, and the old bearing had no snap ring either. This was on a 2008 CTS 3.6L with manual transmission. I do recommend investing in a good quality torx for for the driveshaft to transmission coupling, an impact rated T45 will do you great there. I bent my normal one trying to loosen the bolts.
@@aaronj2141 I am in the middle of this job on 2011 CTS 3.6 RWD with a manual transmission. I am also having problems getting the old bearing off. It seems as though the manual transmission cars use a press fit bearing setup rather than a slip fit/C-clip setup. Hopefully I can get it off with a bearing separator. A hammer and punch didn't get me very far.
Really good thorough and high quality video. What kind of brake cleaner do yall use to remove the old loctite though? It must be some magical stuff, I always have to use a pocket knife to try and chip it out of the threads if it's bad enough that I gotta clean it.
Where’s there any symptoms to let you know if bad other than by looking at it? I have an 06 CTS RWD and I’m having a vibration when accelerating. It’s either coming from the driveshaft area or the rear. Not really making any noises but it doesn’t vibrate when cruising at highway speeds only on moderate and hard acceleration

Thank you for your great video. At 10:00 what type of grease did you use to the journal for the bearing. It was a white color in a blue squeezable tube? Is it ok to use a multi-purpose red thick grease for wheel bearings instead? Thanks.
Quick question. What if the front piece of the shaft broke off the from end with the coupler completely shredded. And I wanted to fix myself but how do I go about making sure its balanced right or simply lined up correctly.
Great video! 👍👍👍 Do you have a video showing how to change the differential rear bushing? Is the one that makes the car sound like BANG! when change gear to Drive position or change to low gear speed when driving. Thanks a lot 😊
+Mark Hanson Thanks for watching. If any of our viewers needs to make this repair, we carry the auto repair part shown in this video on our website. Here is a link to them www.1aauto.com/cadillac-cts-cts-v-sts-driveshaft-center-support-bearing/i/1adsh01551?UA-cam&CTA+Comment&BJbOqTt95o
shouldn't you at least check that universal joint and Maby replace it while you're that far and maby that caused the bearing to fail, mine did and i am trying to find out how to replace it as its peened in, do you have another video on changing the universal joint?
I just don't now how these videos always "look" so easy...... and in real life we spend hours doing what it seems you do in minutes.....ie...... the 02 sensors have been in for years...... and even with a breaker bar I can't get them to budge.....I'm just going to unclip them and let them hang instead of taking them out.
Took it to shop to get done since I don't have space to work on it😭 now my rpms are staying at 1000 😤 car wasn't doing that before. What they do wrong?
+Mike Hudak Thank you for checking us out. You may not need to replace the entire driveshaft, but it has to be moved out of the way in most vehicles. 1aauto.com
No you can take the center driveshaft a part and the back you do not have to take the front driveshaft apart if you’re only changing the center bearing
In the event that I replaced my the flex joints and center support bearing on my 06 cts 2.8l.. I didn't torqe the bolts on the center support and a couple days later I've lost my bolts... anyone know where to find bolts or thread size?!?? 😅
hello 1auto, is it the same process for 2005 cts-v v8 5.7L ? looks different setup on ctsv ...any suggestion or recommendations would be appreciated. thanks in advance !

Can anyone help me I need to get the support bearing replace that they're telling me that I have to replace the whole drive shaft I needed to see if this was true I just don't want to replace something that doesn't need to be replaced. I just don't want them to try to screw me over in charge me more because I'm a woman. Anyone plz help. 2008 Cadillac cts

very nicely done . i just did mine too on my 05 cts. One thing I might say is that you did not specify where the washers go. on the head of the bolt or on the nut side. I noticed the front has all of the washers on the bolt head side. I see in your video the rear diff side that you have some washers on both sides of the unit.
Please contact me back! How loud was your clunk right before you did it?? And also did you replace the bushing only or the center arm piece too? Thx so much omg!
Sir, I have my parts to repair my drive shaft. One question: What is the length, and diameter of the pipe, you used to drive the new assembly onto the shaft?
+Ghostinthedark100 It may be a different procedure on your application. We currently do not have an auto repair video for this particular year, make and model. Thank you for asking. 1aauto.com
@Ghostinthedark100 did u replace yours? I also have a 2009 an need to replace center support. But looks like the bolt up on driveshaft at front of car is different
You need to change the years on that that only goes up to 07 it does not go the same way on 2008 there actually is no video on UA-cam how to change a 08 and up Center carrier bearing on driveshaft on Cadillac CTS is

How did you get enough clearance under the car
Very good as always, He has very good videos and knowledge

Hello, a question, if I didn't mark the lines before removing it as I know how it goes because now my car when I go to 25 mph trembles
Did this car have a vibration or shutter under throttle thanks for the video

why would you remove the o2 sensors after you unplug them?
Not to damage or distort the sencers.
On average, what would you say would be the amount of time it would take to do this job
Would this procedure be the same for a 2005 Cadillac STS with the 3.6 v6?
Thank you for your great video. At 10:00 what type of grease did you use to the journal for the bearing. It was a white color in a blue squeezable tube? Is it ok to use a multi-purpose red thick grease for wheel bearings instead? Thanks.

My driveshaft 08 cts awd is completely different. New bearing dust cap won't fit on, it's different than the one that came off. What is going on?

I changed my center bearing and the front and rear flex disc and now I have a weird vibration at sixty. any one know what I should do..
corey valade cv joints
Does anyone know what size diameter pipe he used?
MARK ANDERSON yeah one tha fit over his ratchet
Just fyi. You don't have to remove the exhaust.
If your car makes a whinging/clicking noise when you let off the gas or hit the brakes there's a good chance it's the support bearing
this looks exactly like the 07 dodge charger drive shaft
