This is my favourite whisky it's just amazing
Love it!😍😋 Great dram and finally available in Sweden! Slainte!
Its very nice my friend...enjoy
Sounds great, on the hunt now in Australia for this!
I was confused by this bottle on my first couple drams. On my third one it all clicked. Beautiful stuff. It clearly benefits from opening up though.
Hi Alan
I hope you are doing great, I just watched 👀 your review of the edradour 12year old Caledonia, and as you described it, it is a superb whiskey to say the least, I will be buying 2 more bottles as soon as I can, sorry about the royal post, but not to worry you, thanks for the great person you are, I watch all your reviews, you are one of my favorites, cheers sir, and keep the great videos coming !!!
I’m drinking this now! Beautiful drop
Fantastic... My bottle needs killing off... Need to get me another.... Cheers
Thanks for this very interesting review! Amateur scotch drinker here, but have had enough simple drams that it's time to try something more complex. Bought a bottle of this today and now can hardly wait until Xmas to try it. It feels like this one is going to be a hike into the foothills, and maybe a good start to the real mountain climb next year or the year after!
Well, now it's time for another bottle. I'm waiting to get one deliverd for the price of 695skr (£50) together with a Glenturret 12yo (a new one for me) for the price of 899skr (£65)....so both are quite nice priced, I think. I've heard many good things about the Glenturret, so it will be a fun one to crack open with some friends.
Think its time a picked up a new Caledonia...been too long...not tried the glenturret, so please let me know wether its worth picking up....cheers Mats....
@@thewhiskyfriendI've only tried the GT 12 2022 release, but for sherry fanciers it's terrific. Layers of flavour/depth. Outstanding complexity for a 12. I haven't tried any "old school" sherried whiskies but there's none of the recent faults/foibles with artificial notes, plasticine, or "sherry syrup".
I can tell you live this one. I do too. Brilliant tasring notes. Couldn't agree more. It eeally is a complex superb whisky. Love the bitter balance with the tannins, nuts and liquorice. I got mint too. Perfect.
Received this as a Christmas gift two Christmas’s ago and got a second bottle to keep back it was so interesting. I got a nutty cheesy nose on it. Big flavors in this one. I agree there is so much to sit with and find. This is always easily an hour long sipping dram for me. $80-$90 here where I am in the US for just the bottle in a tin, no glasses. Nice to see this review Alan! Thanks for sharing. 🙂
Just picked this one up after trying it at my brothers place, its amazing I must say.
Your reviews are really getting better and better and more consistent. Keep up the good work and: stay healthy!
Well thank you Lutz it's much appreciated and I'm glad your enjoying my content...cheers my friend...
@@thewhiskyfriend Only one place by me has this. However it’s going for $92! Very expensive 12 year old . Do you think it’s as good or better than say, Tamdhu 15? That one is $90 near me.
What do you suggest?
Great review. Your smells and tastes are always so extensive and discriptive. Love this whisky. Very complex.
I love this dram.Thick, creamyspicey sweet sherry.
One of my favourites.
Great craft distilling.
Cracking video again..
Great vid. This Caledonia never returns to Canada since before 2008: my lifetime regret. Back then, i was too distracted and busy buying Talisker 18 and 21 for just 45UKP and 75UKP respectively. . . i remember Caledonia being very syrupy, complex and ends with that saccharin-sweetness.
Picked up a bottle at the distillery and it became my favorite. Had a heck of time finding it in the states. After a few years found a place and have gone bonkers buying it! Tastes so good on the front that you never want to swallow it!
Hey Alan, I also picked up this bottle within the last month, minus the fancy packaging. I haven’t opened it yet, but it’s in the queue. Glad to hear it’s a more than worthwhile dram :)
“ In the queue” I know exactly what you mean.
Looks like a good one Alan. Hope to pop into this distillery in June and it's big neighbor Blair Athol. Our first day in the Highlands going to stay at the Athol Palace so guess I could probably walk to both of them. Cheers
This was my very first craft whisky in November 2018. Absolutely loved it and there's a bottle on the cupboard ever since.
I think the reviews you make are fantastic, now I have 1 question "what is your best fruitiest whiskey under 50 pounds.
Easy.... Glencadam 10....
We had a sample of this very early one and it scared us a bit I think. It is in our blind tasting and I am looking forward to it showing up.
The Whisky Shop in SF has it in stock for $85.50 almost bought it but went for Glendronach CS batch 8
@@DonnerPassWhisky Ah yes. I have 250ml in a bottle now from sharing.
Love Edradour. I've not had the 12 but some of the Signatory bottlings I've had have been awesome - some of the best sherried whiskies I've tried. Great review!
Yep, the Signatory vintage bottlings are great. The Caledonia is well worth getting too. The standard 10 is best avoided though in my opinion.
@@GTJWilding the 40% abv has put me off bothering with the 10. The 12 is definitely on the list though. Cheers!
Bought it from the whiskey exchange Covent garden in 2018. Agreed it is indeed a masterpiece ! Sadly not available in India
Nice one, Alan, great review! This one really is something special among the many 12 year olds on the market - I agree, it definitely stands out and deserves a high rating. You could say it's keeping in character along with the 15yo Fairy Flag expression and the cask strength 14yo in the fancy decanter. All of them lucious Sherry matured whiskies. Edradour are making some fantastic material! Cheers.
Awesome stuff Alan. We spoke on Twitter about this bottle over a year ago. Getting harder to find now though. All the best chap.
I really am intrigued by this one. Only one store that I know of has it by me. What’s keeping me from pulling the trigger ? The price. $92. Seems high for a 12!
it is a fantastic 12 year probably the most complex 12 year old out there, it is from a fantastic distillery in Edradour it is around £65 pounds in the uk for a 70cl however i believe you have 75cl in the states so in my opinion that $92 seems about right and i did prefer it to the Tamdhu....go ahead pull that trigger and i sure you will not be disappointed my friend....
@@thewhiskyfriend I guess I’m headed for a whisky roadtrip this Saturday . Tell me. You’ve had the “old style” Glendronach 15.
Aside from the 18 and 21.
Out of ALL of the sherry monsters out there (modern era). Which bottle/ label most resembles that particular taste. There’s something unique about those versions that I haven’t come across since. What would you say is closest to that taste profile in any range on the shelves today? If any.
I still own 3 old versions. But I’ll hold on to those for years to come. They’re only available at auction and they don’t come cheap.
Need to pick one of these up, lots of positive reviews appearing and a fair price too given the feedback. Did look the other week but bought an Arran 18 instead... Heading to Pitlochry end of March for a couple of days, might try to drop into distillery 😁
I loved the sample that I had of this one:) Awesome review as usual Allan!
Cheers Keith....
At $90,would you choose this over Tamdhu 15?
A fabulous whisky indeed Alan. I’m slowly savouring every drop of my bottle - just love it! Great review mate🥃
Cheers Al thank for the tip fella... Was not sure at the beginning gave it time and its awesome... Cheers Alan
One of my favorites. I love their 10 year as well. But this caledonia is a special bottle.
Alan, great review ... As you said it changes .. I'm sure I picked up a slight peat and smoke dirty taste ... then lost it. By mistake I bought 5 of them ... save a couple and give the rest away. Great stuff. Keep it coming man, excellent review. It won by a very small margin our whiskey club monthly meeting ... nosing out due to my excessive rating the GlenAllachie cask strength. Just get it.
That's a great dram!!!! My second bottle is waiting on my shelf, but as you said...not for beginners..a real comlex one.
Wonderful stuff Mats... Enjoy that bottle... Cheers Alan
Have you been thinking about rewiewing Craigellachie 13yo or 17yo? I personally love the 13yo and I'm thinking about buying the 17yo, it would have fun to hear what you have to say about them
Good review of a damn good whisky Alan.👍 The 10 is ok but the Caledonia 12 is a different kettle of fish. For a 12 yr old there's alot going on and as you pointed out, what a lovely colour.👍😀🥃
Alan good to see you on the malts again. Visited the Edradour shop a few months ago and got the sherry cask strength which Ralfy rated highly, loved the place. Plan to do the distillery tour this year. Just picked up a Old Pulteney 17 year old in tonight's auction. How do you buy your coins?
Yes it's fantastic stuff Neil... Cheers buddy... Drop me an email to alanwilson15@sky.com and I will let you know buddy... Cheers Alan.
really nice and rich malt. I find my bottle of Caledonia just slightly sweeter than the sample I had from you Alan. Very consistent taste profile! Definitely worth buying!
I had this bottle a while ago. Now i got 5cl bottle my mom gave me. And i got a 12 sherry single cask i will be opening soon hope it is even better than the caledonia.
It's good. Just finished a bottle
I wish I had bought more of the Fairy Flag 16 when that was available. Thanks
Caledonia and Clynelish14 are my go to drams.
Great choices my friend... Thanks for dropping bye...
@@thewhiskyfriend you are doing a great job, I consider your views in my whisky quest, thank you
I spy a new society bottle on the shelf there Alan. The new Hazelburn perhaps?
Yes you got it buddy not cracked it yet.... Cheers Alan
@@thewhiskyfriend Got mine arriving today after a long wait for it. Excited to see how it is.
Engaging review, as always! I watched yours and Ralfy's review back to back , both of you gave it 91.. coincidence! For a layman, it means nice whisky. Period.
Great videod
Thanks for dropping bye my friend...
How can they fit all that in a bottle? NAZDRAVYA!
I only ever had one Edradour... It was nowhere near as good as your description of this one.
This is a special one Quig... Even hard to get here now... Very special... Cheers buddy...
Another reviewer stated that this 12 y.o. tastes like a 30 y.o.
Its s lovely drop, however i wouldnt go that far....fantastic stuff though..
