Hey Yammie, I'm 5'10 and I have persuaded my parents to let me move from dirtbikes to sports-bikes. I haven't ridden my dirtbike in about 3 years because of no-lifeing CSGO and I want to get back into riding but I SERIOUSLY want a sports bike. Which beginner bike do you recommend I should buy? He's philosophic about it because he doesn't own one. He rode one once, and I encourage you to watch that video as you'd be hard pressed to think it was the same person. "JEEEZUS CHRIST..... HOLLY SHIT" were the first words in that video. In that video he was about to spooge the contents of his "hairy plumbs" all over the gas tank such was his excitement and disbelief at how fun the bike was to ride.

I have a 2015 S1000RR and I love it. After years or Harleys and other Cruisers, I decided to try sport bikes. The Ninja 1000 i had my eyes on sold a week before I got home, so I looked through their inventory again and saw an all black S1000RR. My last bike being a 2008 Harley Crossbones, which was mostly blacked out except for the chrome spring up front, it caught my eye as the bike I needed. I was actually scared to take a sport bike out for the first time, as I have heard horror stories and also the day I bought it, it was raining a bit. Before I rode it off the lot (and I did, I just left my car there for 2 days, haha) they told me to put it in rain mode as it will be a lot more forgiving. But i did fall in love with it. Being a bit older I worried about my knees being crouched up all the time, but i find i have fewer back issues on a sport bike than on a cruise.
Since then, I bought a 2000 Ducati 900 supersport. It is also beautiful, but more for the sounds. It has that L-Twin and a dry clutch that rattles.
    I love both my bikes.

I actually switched from a Ninja 1000 (if you not confuse it with the ZX-10R), which is called Z1000SX in Europe to a 2017 S1000RR. Although the Kawa was a really nice bike, it was way to boring for me. The engine was really good, but the sound was.. meh. It really felt weighty arround corners and stuff, so I finally decided to go for the BMW. And oh my god was that one of the best decisions I made in my life. This bike is so absolutely fantastic in every way. When you drive it normally and the engine screams at you: "FASTER! HIGHER REV! GO, GO, GO!", especially since the SC Project S1 Slip On is mounted. And when you finally close the throttle it thanks you with some slight backfire. Man I love this thing.
I will never get how THAT can be clicinal it all. For me it is pure emotion driving that thing. I'm totally looking forward to go on the race track next year.

The whole inline 4 is soulless argument is kinda BS. It just has a different character but has just been over done. A uncorked inline sounds like an F1 car where as a v4 sounds like a v8 but the v4 is much more rare and desirable. Funny thing is the Yamaha R1 crossplane inline sounds exactly like a v4 (same firing order)

I ride a 2017 S1000RR. I’ve been riding her “intimate object” for a little over a year. I tend to leave my bikes stock for the first year before making any serious modifications. Smaller items like tires, brakes, etc are changed to fine tune the bike to my personal specifications. Power adders are done in the second year after I have acquired a comfort level and some seat time with the bike. I currently have ~16k on the bike, with a few hotdog moments, a couples of track days and now I feel comfortable enough to start making modifications. First I will put the bike on the Dyno to see what I am working with from the factory. After that I will install a full exhaust and remapping with a professional tune. I basically follow this process with every bike that I have ever owned. My 2015 ZX14R, was no different. I enjoyed your video and I believe that you have to own and ride an S1000RR for at the very least six months, then make another video about the type of “soul” or feeling that riding this type of machine on a daily basis can generate. I personally own 10 bikes, from a 1076 KZ900 to a 1991 GL 1500. A 1989 GSXR 1100 and a couple of TX650 Yamaha twins. I usually have a minimum of 4 bikes insured and plated because I ride for specific feelings or needs. Right this moment my S1KRR is my daily personal favorite, but I am pretty fickle when it comes to machines. For now this one gets to spend the cold Michigan winters in the living room. Totally understand the pre-ownership feeling, as I frequently got my a$$ handed to me by this kid at work on his highly modified 2015 S1KRR at the race track. So I bought one as a gift to myself for my 57th bday. Sadly I am already thinking about the new rendition of the S1000RR. To me personally being able to program the suspension, and hp to suit the situation is one of the LOVE items that puts this bike in the house for the winter. Thanks!

A great example of this pre ownership engagement thing.. When I was really young from the mid to late 90's and on, because of the PlayStation game Gran Turismo I wanted a Mitsubishi GTO (3000GT in America). I looked at them on eBay off and on through the rest of my teen years, still never seeing one in person. In 2005 after moving back to basically my hometown, later in the year a pristine original owner car with full records went up for sale for $6000, it was a 1993 3000GT in red.. When I got to look at it, sit in it and start it, I already felt familiar and knew where almost everything was and how everything looked from the thousands of pictures I had looked at over the years. I instantly fell in love with that car and drove it for 8 years, from 113,000miles when I got it, to 260,000 miles.. The car loved to run buy the next owner ran it low on oil for too long, it used about a quart every 1200-1500 miles. I will someday buy a third generation GT and spec it out!!!

I get what you’re saying. I have ‘99 monster 750. I got it cheap on Craigslist, with a dead battery and a broken rectifier. This thing has broken down on me more times than I can count, and I’ve crashed on it twice. But goddamn do I still kinda love it. It’s a bit of a lemon, a work in progress, rusty in a lot of places and doesn’t work at all in others (turn signals are wanky). But it reminds me of myself. And even after every breakdown, I can still fix it back up and keep riding. Even though it’s dirty and damaged, I love it just the same. It gives me hope that even though I myself am fucked up, I’m still worthy of love, and life.

Being a car guy in the past i thought i could relate to this as so many modern M models have become souless cars with so much hp and no connection to the driver whatsoever, and even tho the newer s1000s may be too try hard bikes with no rawness to them, i absolutely love my yellow 2011 S1000rr, and ive owned a ‘23 636 and ‘22 mt09 too, but they feel like toys compared to the s1k, the bike is indeed perfect but with a mix of rawness and modernity like a f430 scuderia, its got some reliability issues but its definetly worth the headache. Liter bikes are literally the nirvana of sportbikes.

The issue I have with the 1000RR is that it’s is so good, I would get into trouble on it all the time. It does not scare me AT ALL, which means that I would go WAY FURTHER on the street than I ever would on anything else. My RC51 and Tl100s made me love them because of the character they have, my H2 makes me respect it’s because of how insane it is, it is extremely capable and makes all of the right sounds, it engages me and tempts me to make the jump to light speed. The 1000 RR? I know it can do it, and I have zero fear of it. Which is why I fear the darn thing! It does what a good bike should do, make you focus 100% on the ride itself not on the bike. Want to take this corner at 160 MPH that’s rated for 45 MPH? Sure you can make that! And Poof you made it! Which translates into everything else you do, on anything else and POOF your in a coffin, that’s closed because what’s left of you could fit in a shoe box. So for me self preservation is the order of the day.
I can’t have one because I would be testing my own limits as the RR doesn’t have any.

The S1000 is the real reason I did my test back in 09. I'd ridden crossers when I was young but it never really transferred to wanting to ride em as an adult. Until I saw the S1000RR.
Since passing I've had a Kwack ER6 (tidy but cheaply built) and a Yammie R6 (great little bullet but lacking in normal riding comfort and general finish).
Eventually bought a 2017 RR last year and it's everything I'd hoped for. To me it has oodles of soul. It's there with me, keeping me safe from my stupidity while tearing my head off as much as it can. It's a joy to tinker on with, everything is so we'll put together.
I recently did a 4000 mile trip around the Alps and it was loaded with kit. It never missed a beat. Not one. Chewed through motorway miles keeping me completely comfortable (cruise control is a godsend), as well as carving up mountain passes like a bullet. Amazing machines. I love you Brucie!

Interesting video, I've always been on/off about the s1000rr but your video made a good point that it's about a relationship you create with the bike. It really doesn't matter what bike you end up on, to be cliche, it's the journey that counts. Thanks!

Although I do agree with the phylosophical perspective about attaching meaning to an object, I have to completely disagree with the statement that an S1000RR is a soulless machine. I’ve been admiring this bike since it came out, its unique style - especially the fact that the design philosophy behind it was „style follows function”, not the other way around as its the case with most bikes. That being said, I bought mine 2 weeks ago and it brings pure joy every day I ride it. The attachment to the machine and the story behind it comes down to the individual rider and their personal taste - both in regards to style as well as performance. The RR (especially the 1st edition) is one of a kind and I doubt there will ever be a bike that had such a Bruce Lee entrance to the world of superbikes.

I had many, many bikes, each one with own "personality". But I simply love my 2012 S1000RR like no other.... what a nice piece of Bavarian art and strength. Maybe it is not the fastest anymore, what do I care? It is elegant, well built, and fun to ride on track or street (OK, maybe not so much on the street). Too bad they are killing the asymmetric headlights, so there you go, perfect no more... (very "different" abd nice vid Yammie !)

You or other guys might dislike something in my statement but as I see it, all bikes in this world are lifeless without people. I find motorcycles being carriers of our soulful piece. Then, I guess even S1000RR can give us awesome portion of adrenaline, fun without electronic assistance and give that feeling of freedom and liveliness. Also as for me, all kinds of transport need engineered cold way of calculations because technological progress must rise upper and upper

Let me begin with stating I enjoy your videos even this one. Some I have watched more than twice! I am a huge fan of yours.
You made some valid points, still as a the owner of two BMW motorcycles and a BMW sedan I feel it is necessary to defend my beloved brand.
The BMW S1000 is the only high-powered race bike that allows its rider the opportunity to grow both mentally and physically. Only BMW thought to add safeguards to enable a beginner to ride a liter bike with confidence. I started riding mine in RAIN mode, and as I progressed I changed modes. I even have the SLICK chip for track days. Every other maker has models to fit a rider’s talent level, from 250’s to 14R’s. BMW makes one bike that fits every skill level and it’s awesome!! Something you failed to mention is that the S1000 is so advanced other manufacturers still use it as the model for their bikes, the only other bike in its class is the Aprilia V4. Maybe instead of wasting your time and mine with the turbo hayabusa, you could feature the Aprilia V4, the other industry standard.
You know I was considering a Ducati 1299 for street use, but I believe I just talked myself into an HP4.
