This is not nitpicking. A huge portion of Shenmue is the narrative. They ruined his arc and my favorite part of Shenmue which is watching Ryo grow and see where fate takes him. This game was a huge disappointment, and we can't just allow people who make bad things to go un-criticized.
If you think about it Chai was the first major challenge for Ryo, and he is shown to hand Chai his ass many times in shenmue 3. the MAD angels and Yellow head gangs are just unskilled gang members with no combat training. Dou Niu.... yeah he is strong, but he has NO fighting skill, if he wasn't a big fat man he would be no problem for Ryo. Two thugs Ryo face in 3 are both above Chai level at least, so no Ryo is not getting weaker, he is stronger in 3 than he was at the beginning of 1, he just isn't at Lan Di's level yet
@djskamper epic just gave them a savepass. So if it sells poorly they would still not fall off with costs. Epic didn't much contribute to the development.

Exactly. My first Shenmue playthrough was 2 and I watched the Shenmue "movie". Ryo has so much more experience in street fighting and martial arts. I understand if he had to fight foreigners with styles he's not used to, like the boxer and thai boxer. But these guys are using kung fu styles he has similar experience with. It's like the other fights in the series never happened as you said.
This is like the devs were starting to make a beautiful cake and in the middle of making it, they have to take a number 2 and ask someone inexperience to take over, after a while when they came back, he got an explosive diarrhea and shat all over the finishing product 😂🤣

Its the fighting mechanics Yu Suzuki made a tremendous mistake not keeping it, heck dont even have throws 1 and 21 had a brilliant easily learningable but takes time to master perfect fight system and 3 removing it was the only thing keeping it from being a fantastic sequel and instead just a decent one.

I didn't understood why in the earlier fights with the suspender wearing dude, they made it seem as if Ryo couldn't defeat him when in actuality YOU were playing as Ryo literally controlling him to kick his ass in the warehouse on two separate occasions in a non-qte fight. Another thing that pisses me off is how the game developers made us wait so many years to see Ryo get bested by Lan Di canonically.
Imagine how these boss fight..no the entire game would have actually looked like if it were made in the Dragon engine by RGG studio,The guys who made the Yakuza games. Dragon Engine is great but Shenmue uses Unreal Engine 4, which is also great. Dragon Ball FighterZ, The Outer Worlds, Jedi Fallen Order, Dragon Quest X1, etc are all made on Unreal Engine 4. You are right though. It is lazy. Like LITERALLY lazy. The dev team for Shenmue 3 is small and mostly consists of older folk who have little experience with modern game development. During production, the team straight up ported models and textures from Shenmue 2 to fuck around with. It's very likely that Shenmue 3 is LITERALLY a glorified Dreamcast game as a result. That is why Shenmue 3 runs pretty decently and doesn't have too many bugs but looks like it was shoddily put together anyway. It's also not perfectly fair to compare to the Yakuza games. The Yakuza games were made with love and care in mind and a specific expression for Japanese culture (hence having locations based off real japanese cities, the Yakuza stuff being fairly accurate, etc). The Shenmue games were made during a more radical era of game creation where decent 3D game technology allowed for the creation of more unique game experiences. No other games releases in the late 90's- early 2000's really play like Shenmue. It's just... Shenmue 3 didn't really attempt to bring Shenmue into the modern era but simply resurrect the old series with a modern engine.

Shenmue isn't Yakuza both are different type of game and SEGA always say it so isn't point compare both game. people this day just care about graphics but don't care if the game have good story or even if give fun in gameplay, i enjoy more MGS 1 that is a game of 1998 than the Phantom Pain that is the lastest entry of MGS series graphics ins't everything as long the game give fun is a good game. this game exist because the nostalgic players and because have a person like Yu Suzuki that never give up in make Shenmue 3 possible. people say the budget of 6.8m is enough to make a AA or AAA game you guys don't have any idea of how much take make a game. The Witcher 3 have it a budget of 30m almost 5 times more than Shenmue 3. GTA V cost around 100m and is a Boring game compared to GTA IV or San Andreas. Shenmue 3 was made thinking in the players that waited 19 years to see the 3rd part of this journey. i love Video Games and i appreciate that Yu Suzuki and Deep Silver make this possible. i hope we get Shenmue 4 soon.

Looking at chapter cards there are more chapters to be told. I don't mind not winning against Lan Di, but just the overall presentation is bad. Not a of lot happened here. The characters are less interesting and the last segment was underwhelming. I liked the training sections, few music pieces and being able to change your clothes but that is just about it. The Shenmue 2 last battle was pretty epic comparing to this.

Shenmue isn't Yakuza both are different type of game and SEGA always say it so isn't point compare both game. people this day just care about graphics but don't care if the game have good story or even if give fun in gameplay, i enjoy more MGS 1 that is a game of 1998 than the Phantom Pain that is the lastest entry of MGS series graphics ins't everything as long the game give fun is a good game. this game exist because the nostalgic players and because have a person like Yu Suzuki that never give up in make Shenmue 3 possible. people say the budget of 6.8m is enough to make a AA or AAA game you guys don't have any idea of how much take make a game. The Witcher 3 have it a budget of 30m almost 5 times more than Shenmue 3. GTA V cost around 100m and is a Boring game compared to GTA IV or San Andreas. Shenmue 3 was made thinking in the players that waited 19 years to see the 3rd part of this journey. i love Video Games and i appreciate that Yu Suzuki and Deep Silver make this possible. i hope we get Shenmue 4 soon.

You need know how guard yourself more than just attacking straight ahead bro. The way I play this boss fight first until the end boss game I use the stance that can do damage and go on defensive. Let the boss come at you that how I play it

Another thing that i dont see on here when they fight! that made shemue so unique was when ryo would fight you could see his after image of himself when he execute his moves on people and the graphics looks very very cheesy.......
Looking at chapter cards there are more chapters to be told. I don't mind not winning against Lan Di, but just the overall presentation is bad. Not a of lot happened here. The characters are less interesting and the last segment was underwhelming. I liked the training sections, few music pieces and being able to change your clothes but that is just about it. The Shenmue 2 last battle was pretty epic comparing to this.

Same. Huge fan of the first two. So ahead of their time. Fight mechanics in those are still pretty solid to this day.

The fighting mechanics are better than the first 2. It's way more challenging. The first 2 were just button mashers. Because of the animations this games fights just aren't as visually appealing as the first 2 games

Alot of people are blind to the fact that its a new shemue game that they don't pay attention to the flaws on this game! You can't repel enemies attacks on here or even dodge for that matter, chain combos. Or even throw moves are gone this shit is wacky and alot of you shenmue should have pick up on this this game is a disgrace.......
This game was basically DOA without the virtua fighter engine. . the combat is what made Shenmue fun. This is just laughable.
