- So I got to go for a fun test drive in the NEW 2016 Volkswagen Passat the other day and between that back seat room and excellent safety scores this one was definitely a winner! Check out the test drive, exterior overview, interior, engine bay & more!

saw this car in person video and or images don't do it justice .. you need to go see it in person to really appreciate the vehicle. it's beautiful.
It is. I just test drove one and a Jetta SE, which had lots of toys and gadgets, but I'm leaning towards the Passat because of the ride comfort rather than the looks.
Same with peaguet 508.
I bought a white 2016 Passat R Line last month. I had been wanted a Passat for a long time but thought it just wasn't sporty enough compared to a BMW 3 series or Audi A6. After test driving the Passat SE several times I decided it was time to buy it. When I went back to the dealer the following week to buy the SE I found the R Line in the show room. Bought it immediately. It has the right mix of style and class...all for $22k. Couldn't be happier.

A very nice car for the price. I would certainly take it over the Altima.

I see the comments about the engine size having only 170 hp. You can put any motor in a car you want to, the difference is always going to be the mpg you get. Im just fine with getting 25mpg in the city with my Passat R-Line. Owned a BMW 550, been there done that with paying tons of money for gas and........... getting tickets for speeding.
Don't forget the torque on this thing comes in at 1500 RPM. That's all on the low end so the engine feels more powerful than it really is without the need to rev it up.

u have to move to europe if u want one. here we got completely different passat, and there is a turbo 2L with 280HP available.
Mike Mac that is exactly what's available...everywhere else! Passat 206 R is the exact drivetrain of Golf R in the much newer European Passat available everywhere outside North America. I drive a 16 Volvo S60 t5 2.0 turbo sport package and gets 37 mpg I'll stick with it. This one does have more rear leg room though
If you own the previous models from 2012-2015 and drive this 2016, you will notice you driving the exact same car. Only difference is the timing in turbo lag between them all. Except the 2.5
Wow. o_O I just got done watching this and then watched the European spec 2016 VW Passat R-Line and the European version looks SOOOO MUCH BETTER! It looks so aggressive from every angle, the headlights are different, the front and read bumpers are different, the front grille is shaped different, the DRLs are completely different (more like Audi), the exhaust is integrated into the rear bumper like a high-end sports car and even the interior and steering wheel are completely different and way more sporty! Dafuq? Why did VW water down the American version so much while still calling it an R-Line???

+Adrian Espinoza That would be a seriously tough decision... The Passat may be a little less expensive but other then that it's probably going to come down to personal preference since they're so similar... Tough question! lol

It's a nice looking car. It could use about 30 more hp though.
+MrNewlife1968 VW tends to under sell the specs. Usually the 1.8T puts out closer or even above 190hp stock.
You can also chip it from APR Tuning for $600 and bump it up to 242HP.
+Jween Tech is chip fairly easy to install and will void your warranty.

Controversial toward the website about it having paddle shifters or dsg transmission. Can someone give truth to as it it has a dsg transmission or not along with a factory sunroof
+Roosevelt Davis The 4cyl comes with a 6 speed automatic and the 6cyl comes with the DSG. Paddle shifters are available with both.

You said "German manufacturing", but the Passat is made in Chattanuga, Tennessee. The CC is the Passat in Germany, and that's the one manufactured over there. And 38 hwy mpg? Wow. Very nice review.

R-line sould have 2.0 TSI or upped power. Badges only is kinda lame.
There is a difference between a R-line and a actual R. R-line is a sport luxury cosmetic package for regular none performance vw model (Cc, Passat, Tourag) models. Kinda like a bmw with the M-sport package on a regular 4 series compared to the actual M4. but the difference is that bmw acutally adds performace bits. There was once a actual R36 for the b6 passat chassis but only in Europe.

I walked into the dealership ready to buy the Passat R-Line with a 3.5 V6, dealer told me it's not available with this configuration. VW are you kidding me, you are trying to sell a car with sports looks but can't get a 3.5 V6 engine with that? Does not make any sense at all, major mistake from VW.

Correction, American manufacturing with German design. (All US Passats are built in Chattanooga TN.)

I think the Jettas are also built in Mexico.
Van S. I know this post is a year old, but even though it's put together in TN the transmission is built in Japan and the engine in Mexico.
