Bushcraft Camping in Viking Tent, Canvas Poncho Shelter, Rainstorm, Raised Bed, Steak Kabob

  • A early spring bushcraft camping trip in the Adirondacks. I used vintage canvas ponchos (Soviet Plash Palatka and Polish Palatka) to make a Viking style tent. I build a fire reflector and cook some delicious steak kabobs next to my campfire. It rained overnight and throughout the next day, but I stayed dry. For sleeping comfort, I built a nice raised bed with my Ratnik shelter. It was very comfortable. In the morning, I built my campfire back up and made some cowboy coffee and cooked some eggs for breakfast. I hope you enjoyed. Thank you for watching.

    Thanks for watching everyone! If you can share the video, it helps tremendously. I am just now editing a giveaway video for the Vont lights I used during this camp. Should be up in a couple days.

    I wish I could live in the states, here in the UK there aren't big forests, that you could go miles and still be surrounded by the woods, also a lot of woods are privately own (which is weird as I always thoughts forests should belong to everyone - who owns them?) and as I see in the US you have a lot of woods, parks etc... I would probably feel like in heaven there... Well I have to enjoy what I have now and where I live, maybe in the future I will have a chance to move to the USA and enjoying wild camping there!

      Thanks Jeff! I just ran a loop through the grommets of the palatkas from the same line that I used to stitch them together at the top/ridge. When I ran the loop down, I inserted the top of the Polish lavvu into it and pulled it tight and then tied it off to the frame. The tent stakes held everything else in place. I liked the setup. Good bit of room for one person. The kabob was pretty alright too! Cheers man!

    That was a nice outing. Spring is here and so are the ticks. If you encounter them in your area what if any protection do you use. Over the last few years they have really taken off in western ny. Now it’s a real worry. Keep up the good videos

    Looking good . You should have slept well after carrying that mini storage building in on your back . 80 liter ? I take you’re not the only thing prowling the woods since you’re hanging bags . My knee should be far enough along for me to do some camping and turkey hunting next weekend. Have a great evening

    Cool video man , soaking up the sounds of rain , the fire and nature .
    Awesome tent idea , what else could be used besides 2 plash's ? GI tent halves or German infantry halves perhaps , I don't think a Swedish Lavuu will work because of the shape ??

    • @EnduranceRoom
      @EnduranceRoom  3 роки тому +1

      Thank you! It was 3 actually, two Soviet Plash Palatka for the side walls and one Polish Lavvu for the back end. The palatkas are square, the lavvu is a triangle. I like them because they are warm and don’t melt around the fire.

  • @manuelacevedo5150

    Bro...out done,your self with this camp the ,A,fram shelter love it the bed,wat the size of that tarp.And for the shelter,wat tarp thed you uses..you think it work out here in the carrebbien??, told to me jess

    • @EnduranceRoom
      @EnduranceRoom  3 роки тому +2

      Thanks brother! The bed was the Ratnik tarp, think its about 5x9. The shelter was 2 Soviet Plash Palatka and 1 Polish Lavvu. I really like both. The Soviet version is my favorite. 2 makes a great A frame or half pyramid. 3 makes a really nice tent. I think they would work well for you there. I have used them in the sun and heat, and the palatka helps block it for sure.

    Hey Jess, great video! Thanks as always. I have an update. I recently tested my Russian tent hammock in a rainstorm that produced maybe an hour of medium rain. Upon inspecting it during the rain I noticed it was leaking around the bottom where the tub of the tent meets the wall in the stitching. Long story short I ended up with about 30 oz of water in the floor of the tent hammock. Highly disappointing and I would like to hear from anyone else who tests theirs in the rain. Just wondering if mine is an isolated incident or if this is a bigger problem. It advertises as waterproof and mine definitely is not.

    • @EnduranceRoom
      @EnduranceRoom  3 роки тому

      That’s a bummer. Surplus can be hit or miss sometimes. I had some seepage in my Ratnik tarp, but other people I have talked to have had no issues. Seam seal. Hang it up on a nice day and brush it on over all the stitching, inside and out.
