Thanks my friend. Appreciate it. Most of this stuff is pretty self explanatory. With all the nonsense going on, I am happy to just make the focus on nature and the trip. Cheers
Kind of a Whelen Lean-to......I used a big bowie knife for wood processing too. That was many years ago; thanks for the fun video and the fond memories that it brought back.
Thanks for a great video. I don't usually enjoy no talking videos, but this was an exception. Thanks to skillful camera work and editing, everything was clear and easily understandable. Thanks again.
First time watching one of your videos, subscribed about half the way through. Really interesting way using the shelter halves. On another note the sound quality of your video was AMAZING!!!!
Very nice overnight setup my friend .. the sounds of crackling wood is music to my ears and very relaxing! That SERE manual is a good read as well .. to me, when it comes to wilderness survival or survival in general, there's no such thing as too much information .. it all comes in handy. Thanks for sharing brother!🤙
Ahhhh, the shelter half. Better than nothing but "nothing" is not much of a goal to beat! LOL Slept in one for two weeks in Basic Training then never again. Plus the only thing heavier than canvas is wet canvas. That was an interesting set up, I like how you opened it up, no poles in the middle. Not sure that's Drill Sergeant approved. Love pine needle tea, make that a lot. And oh damn, that knife...I own cutting tools that perform the same function but damn that thing just looks so awesome and for $74!!!! Insane! I make my own leather stuff so a sheath is no problem. As for the steak it looked delicious, but the Corporal would have wrapped it in bacon first LOL.
Thank you! Definitely recommend the knife. They sell blank versions of it as well. Finished, other than handle. That would be a cool project. Have a good one!
I made one more order on shelt half pulp tent brand new but old still good👍👍👍now i know they both can fit on medium alice . Loving it. Thank you video update bro🤙🤙🤙🤙🥓🥓🥓🥓🥓
Thanks for the video Jess. So many videos reviewing the ALICE pack and hardly any of it in use. Neat configuration with the GI Pup tent, never seen it set up like that before. 👍🥩🏕🔥🔪
Once again Jesse... O.a.f Love the videography but more so ..love the unfussiness of the way you just get on and do things...wanna steak .stick it next to fire on a stick Gonna skin some pine...well use the skinnings as a fire starter. It's very refreshing to see what I consider to be old woods craft used...I'm in the UK so you know slightly different ..but skills out in the woods are still skills . Keepingit real my friend ... appreciated
Thank you, Tim! Appreciate the kind words, my friend. Glad you enjoyed. I really like keeping it simple for the reliability it affords. Have a good one!
Wait. What? Jess is ditching the Russian gear for some good ole fashion US GI gear? Way to join the team for the big win! I’m kidding Jess. Great video!
Hey Jess, I have never seen the pup tent set up like that, great idea! Plenty of room and a nice covered porch. Really enjoyed it. Thank you Jess, hope you have great week.
Well isn't that an interesting arrangement! Nicely done! The single shelter half that I use the ridge line is buttoned in for a quick wind break. You can slide it back and forth on the ridge line to find the sweet spot. The bug net's for these are so nice . Just lay them over the top and secure.
Thanks Scott! Very cool with the sliding ridge line. I have been thinking about running a bugnet for awhile. It is starting to cool off here a bit, and the bugs haven’t been much of an issue. Miraculously, I have only seen one or two ticks all year.
@@EnduranceRoom Same here with the ticks. After experiencing Lyme disease this has been one of the best summers to be in the woods. Keep up the good work Jess!
I loved my 1956 puptent, but only on the way in. back home it was wet in most cases and doubled its weight lol Everything else about it was just great. It kept my drinks and the dogs cool in the hottest summer ;-)
Ah yes, lol, I have had a few of those trips myself. Kind of balances out without the food that was packed in. My friend D from How to Survive in the Woods has a set that he waxed. Looks awesome and definitely improves the functionality. Cheers
Thank you! Very exciting on the Skrama. I like orange lighters. I don’t like to wear it, but also appreciate not getting perforated. As for perception from game, I don’t think color is as much a priority as scent. I have an orange vest that I lightly shaded with spray paint to break it up slightly, give it some depth. It is still high vis to the human eye, but does allow it to be more subtle.
@@EnduranceRoom what i meant is shouldnt you be wearing hunters orange aside from the fact rather you are hunting or not...my concern is safety... And on another note, rather your intent is hunt or not you still out in the woods with firearm during hunting season, which is a question of legalities.
@@tramontane3239 ah, gotcha. Appreciate the concern, but I am on our property. I have been carrying an orange signal panel, radio and whistle just in case something were to go sideways.
Boiling for about 3 minutes is recommended. That will take care of any biological contaminants. I often use a cloth to pre-filter the water before boiling to remove any large debris or sediment. Thats typically all I do to purify water in the woods. I do really like Sawyer water filters. Even the mini filter they make is really good.
Not this time, but it was light rain. Heavy rain, make a bed to get up off ground. I demonstrate how to in my most recent video. Digging a small ditch around tarp is also an option.
I know I'm late to the party here, but how are you able to keep your packs so trim and light? I don't think that I am over packing my ruck, but the medium ALICE is barely large enough for my "summer" packing list. I still attach extra pouches and such to the pack to hold all the gear. What am I doing "wrong?"
@@savagesapper4260 It’s a process that takes time. I used to max out a large ALICE when I was first starting out. The medium should be plenty big for most trips. Especially summer stuff. I will try and shoot a loadout video to show what I have for an overnight and how it’s organized.

Another question, how to tell the water on the ground is safe to drink after boiling? Is there a need for filtration first?

When it rain, was the ground under the tend wet? Did water flow into the tend? How to solve that issue?

That would be great. A visual aid like that would really help folks trim their kit.
só não pode chover, se não esta barraca entraagua debaixo
It depends on how you set it up. These tents work well enough in rain, they just get heavy from the water.
What tarp are you using
Not a tarp, it is an old US Army pup tent (two shelter halves)
