  • During the 2018 Historic Minardi Day me and my friends Davide458Italia and Italiansupercarvideo had the chance to record an icon from the Formula 1 "Turbo Era": the Ferrari 126 C4.
    Two of them were at the event but only one spent time on the track.
    Built as an evolution of the 1983 126 C3, six C4s chassis were built during the 1984 season, ranging from numbers 126-071 to 126-076. The two in this video are chassis 073 (on the right at the beginning of the video) and 074 (the one on the left). The 126 C4 was only able to score only a win during the Zolder GP and other 7 podium finishes conquering the second place in the constructors' championship. It's powered by a 1.5-liter twin-turbo V6 engine that was able to produce around 660hp at 11,600 rpm for race use.
    The two cars in this video are a bit different among them. Infact the one you see in action on track could be called 126 C4 M (where with the "M" Ferrari generally means "modificata", Italian word for "modified"). You can see better the difference here: www.caren.ch/wp...
    Basically on the M you have squared air radiator inlets, a different rear axle/suspension design (2:10, the C4 M one. 2:25 the other one) and different exhaust headers with single exit on the C4 M and a more "spaghetti-style" on the C4 (differences are at 1:54 and
    2:02). Quite for sure there are many other diversities but these are the the easiest to find.
    The C4 M you see here (chassis 074) was the actual car that won that only race in Belgium in the hands of Michele Alboreto who drove it during other rounds of the season. Renè Arnoux was behind the wheel of this chassis too, in Hockenheim and Zeltweg.

      Andrea Moroni i guess is more like how the power is put on the rear wheels today even if f1 cars has 1000hp they sound like if they are not that powerful and this is because of the erogation of the power and all the electronic not just the MGU-H even if for me it's a brilliant device if you know how it work

      Matteo Tononi
      There are also new things like electric turbos, like in the Audi tt clubsport concept which sounds great. I'm sure there's a way to produce better sound from the F1 V6s.

    • @Slowshyy
      @Slowshyy 6 років тому +39

      Both exhaust banks go into a singular exhaust exit, to which a very large turbo dulls quite a bit of the noise. With that said, when the waste gates are open, which can be heard in particular F1 videos by fans, the cars are a decent amount louder than what most people hear on TV and on track.

    Hi Bozzy. I'm absolutely loving this recent wave of onboard footage you've been getting.😍 Such an amazing opportunity to ride along in these iconic machines and get the driver's perspective. I remember the turbocharged F1 days and still find it outrageous that the engineers could extract so much power from only 1.5 Liters of displacement. Huge shoutout to you and your mates for all the killer videography and fantastic job on the editing, dude!🙌 Love those garage scenes as well. Bravo to you sir and have a wonderful day!✌

    Good to hear the old F1 turbo sounds again, the pops, bangs and grumbles on the gear change and overrun when braking. This guy seem to just be playing about on a track day, when the turbo cars were wound up to max and being pushed at 100% & the amount of different noises coming from the cars was mad. I have a lasting memory of hearing the F1’s accelerating out of the pit lane at down through paddock hill and the first stamp on the brakes into Druids corner at Brands Hatch on the Morning warm up of GP day, the echoes bouncing around in the woods. On practice days I liked moving a long the fence to stand at the gear change point, as with the manual transmission you get a huge amount of energy released when banging on up the gear changes and you feel the shockwave on you internal organs. When old F1 fans say the noise is missing, it’s not only the just the sound you hear but the shockwaves that you feel at your core.

      Because at those days, electronic device was damn bulky and it's not worth it to add more weight for fancy thing. Nowadays, same electronic device can be as small as one-thousandth. And definitely will make huge advantage.
      And always keep in your mind, F1 (and all prototype based-race) is not about "raw feeling" BS, is just about "as fast as possible with any cost", faaar since beginning of GP race.

    Answer to some people that wonder why it sounds "better" than current V6:
    1. Gear shift much slower
    2. The turbo is probably smaller
    3. This camera mic sounds good. If you look at any video of current F1 car that are not recorded by FIA, you will find that it sounds much better.
    4. They rev lower.
    5. The only reason onboard sounds bad is because terrible mic placement probably to avoid accidentally creating any unnecessary drag.

    • @19Bozzy92
      @19Bozzy92  6 років тому +16

      I'm more than happy to answer to similar questions :D
      Generally I'm always alone around the track or during the events, recording and taking pictures of the car. But as you can see in my videos there's always a watermark at the bottom of the video. When you see only mine "19Bozzy92" that means that video is made by only using my shots and recordings. If you see mine plus other two or three, like in this case, that means I collaborate with other friends of mine to create a video. Basically what we do is an exchange between us of our recording at the end of the day or event. Then each of us is free to edit the videos he wants in the way he wants. These are really great collabs because you can put together some really great videos and cover all the best points on the track ;)

      eheh Vero Andrea riguardo al binaural, ma già sono molto limitato con l'attrezzatura che ho, nel senso che posso usarla solo in certe situazioni e con certe condizioni di rumorosità.
      Non ho ancora trovato il tempo nè i soldi da investire per migliorarla di modo da poter utilizzare in futuro quasi sempre il microfono 3D. Per il momento va benissimo così che il microfono stereo che usiamo tutti e tre è perfetto

    It's only when you look at modern F1 now that you see how bloody tiny these cars are. No wonder all these drivers from the 80s walk with slight limps. One bad crash and they're buggered.
