  • After 4 months of testing out the Kase Clip-in Sensor ND Filters I've found that they're just not great for photography, they also do a bang-up job for video too!
    They come in 3,4,5,6 or 10 stop varients and really help minimize the amount of gear you have to bring into the field while on a shoot. If you want to learn more watch the video!
    (This is not a sponsored video, all materials were purchased out of pocket and my views are my own).
    If you want to learn how to sell stock footage you create I'm hosting a free Webinar on January 22nd where you can learn how to create, manage and sell your work for side money! Nice review, with the proper warnings for those newbies.
    For such tiny pieces, sensitive to sebum (natural fat protection generated by our skin), I'd say using microfiber clothes is probably the best way to go. I have something like a dozen, spread all over my bags and pouches, and use them all the time. When not handing them to fellow photo/videographers.
    I buy them large, them cut them to sizes depending on their usages (viewfinders, front lenses, screens and body, rear lenses, etc.). For such clip-ins, they'd be cut narrow and long to wrap around if needed until they are positioned... no traces, no scratches, no damage.
    Such accessories saved my images thousand times, they clean better than liquids sprayed all around (and sensors hate this !), they are washable (always plain soap or dishwashing liquids, never any softener !) and dry quickly.

    I had to come back and comment. I ordered the set like I said I would, and I absolutely love them. I have not used it on a professional shoot yet because I just received them today, but I'm looking forward to it in a big way. I have had different variations of ND Applications like Polar Camp Pro Kit, different size Circular Variable ND's, The Wooden Rubber Clamp-On Matte Box for ND glass, Smallrig & Tilta Matte Box for ND glass, and so far I like this ND setup the best. It is less hassle to deal with. I'm currently rocking the A7III & A7SIII and it works good on both bodies. I see what you saying about the A7SIII Body opening but I'm having no issue so far with it staying in place. Thanks again for the video and your response to my questions.

      Awesome! Glad they're working well for you (even if it's just the first day, haha). I really like them too and they come in handy when you're shooting solely outside - can't beat em!

      @@District7DrewGeraci Yes, I'm putting them through different paces now. Because I have multiple cams I can set one up for inside and another for outside if I don't want to be messing with the ND's. Just depends on the shoot, but i definite see the potential.

    I like these filters a lot. My instructions stated the printing on the filter is unseen when properly inserted.

      Yeah they work wonderfully when they are placed on the sensor correctly. I still use mine all the time!

      @@District7DrewGeraci I'm current on the fence as we speak. I have the A7III and the A7SIII. My only hesitation is when I have the clip in ND filter in the body and then I go inside to shoot I have to then take it out. So how is the transition time for that? That is where I'm kind of stuck.

    • @District7DrewGeraci
      @District7DrewGeraci  3 роки тому +1

      @@VidHeadz yeah, transition time is probably a solid minute or so if you're good at it. The hardest part is just unlocking it from the sensor (you need a guitar pick or flat object to remove it) but it's not horrible. I would recommend leaving them out though if you plan on doing quick indoor and outdoor shots at the same time. They're great if you're always outside though!

      @@District7DrewGeraci I think I'm going to take to the plunge. I can use the same set on the A7III and A7SIII correct? Good vid man appreciate you making up my mind.

    • @District7DrewGeraci
      @District7DrewGeraci  3 роки тому

      @@VidHeadz yeah it's a solid choice! You have to wiggle them into the S3 and A1 a bit more since Sony changed the sensor area a bit. They still work but will likely be a little loose. Thanks again for watching!

    Hi sir will you be able to compare Kase filters vs STC clip filters?

  • @ScutuRC
    @ScutuRC Рік тому

    1:34 more important than just pop-it in front of the sensor is to know how to. More exactly it seems that there's a specific way to install the filters and that's with the Kase logo facing the sensor - so the logo is not visible after instalation. This is from Kase website...

    • @District7DrewGeraci
      @District7DrewGeraci  Рік тому

      Thanks for pointing that out. I've used them both ways and haven't had an issue either way, but it's good to know that facedown is the preferred method.

  • @georgelin6472
    @georgelin6472 3 роки тому +1

    So does installing the wording toward the sensor help I do see they say to install the wording inward rather than facing out like you showed.. I don’t own any but us thinking for a7s3 but seeing people installing it different way and day they don’t fit so not sure

    I wish they made these for the lenses and not the body of a camera, but looks cool

    Good content mate! I have a question, when the filter is on, you can use the entire sensor without any obstruction??

    • @District7DrewGeraci
      @District7DrewGeraci  2 роки тому

      Yes sir! No vignette or anything. There can be some ghosting on highlights if you're looking at an ultra bright object but otherwise they're great. Thanks for watching!

  • @vikesbenbetter
    @vikesbenbetter 2 роки тому

    I picked one up and directions say to place the text side towards the sensor (the opposite of what you do in your video). I wonder if that would fix your a7r4 a7s3 fit issue?

    • @District7DrewGeraci
      @District7DrewGeraci  2 роки тому

      It fits identically in either way, but if you put it face up it can either help (or hinder) flares or ghosting with the filters.

      It's pretty easy to do, even with the 10 stop. You just need to jack the iso up and you're good to go.

    Nice review Drew! I tried the STC filters clip but on super wide lenses from 12mm to 24mm you can see the edges very blurry.. have you found the same issue on the Kase filters?

    • @District7DrewGeraci
      @District7DrewGeraci  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks Mattia! There is definitely a softness that occurrs with the 12-24 (at 12mm) but quite honestly it hasn't really impacted the overall image or impact of the image at all. The softness can also be fixed by adding mid-tone detail. Otherwise these filters are effing amazing.

    Nice Video - thanks! I'm still confused though: When you write "the Kase Clip-in Sensor ND Filters I've found that they're just NOT great for photography" but then the video is nothing but praise... are they now bad oder good for photography (I know your review here leans more toward video... still... could you tell what is NOT great for photography about them?
    And: What's the idea behind using an ND Filter and then film with 800 ISO (your example with the autumn leaves, blue sky and the lady in forefront).
    THX in advance.

      I believe you may have misunderstood what I was saying. They're great for photography AND for video. What I said was 'they're just not great for photography but for video as well' meaning it's a great tool for either type of shooting. I highly recommend getting them.

      Shooting at the native iso of 800 on my camera (for s-log3) will give you the best dynamic range for post production which is why I shoot at that iso.

      Awesome - thank you so much for your professional answers! You definitely earned my subscription ! 👏🏻 (BTW: I‘m no native English speaker… but I would have thought it should say: „They’re not just great for photography“ - instead of the other way around 🙈. Anyway - I‘m glad to learn that they’re good for both. I consider give them a try.

    Does this filter degrade sharpness?

    • @District7DrewGeraci

      Not that I've seen. It can add a color-cast though that has to be removed/corrected in post.
