  • I am in the process of buying a new car! I just traded in my 2011 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2.0T Premium at Champion Car Company. The goal is to buy a car that has more power, better transmission, better brakes, and just an upgraded feel as a sports car. Four cars are on my list. 2015 Genesis Coupe 3.8 R-Spec (4k Miles), 2012 Nissan 370Z (22k), 2013 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X MR (38k), and the 2011 Subaru Impreza WRX (44k). For reference, my 2.0T had 33k miles.
Of these 4 cars, what would you buy? What do you think will work best for me? If you own these car, what do you think?
    Pros:
3.8 - Powerful, Good Manual, Great Sound, Premium Feel, Good Handling/Brakes
370z - Awesome Driver Position, Powerful, Awesome Manual, Good Brakes/Handling, Loaded Interior, Backup Camera
Evo - Practical, Easy To Drive, All Season Control w/ AWD, Advanced Transmission, Tuning Options
WRX - Practical, Tuning Options, AWD, BOV Sound
    Cons:
3.8 - Seems Too Similar To My 2.0T When Cruising, I'm Already 'used' To It
370z - Poor Rear Visibility, Lack of Storage Space
Evo - I'll Never use The Rear Seats, Not much Higher RPM Power Like a V6
WRX - I'll Never use The Rear Seats, Not much Higher RPM Power Like a V6, 5 Speed

I know my comment won't get read or even seen, but I'd go for the 370 hardtop/coupe. The VQ37vhr along with the whole VQ line up is very bullet proof and powerful sports engine. Also.. You'll be one level under an actual GTR that sports the VR38dett. BTW the VQ35 hangs with 300hp+ V8s.. The 3.7L is even more powerful

I would say the gen coupe 3.8l would be the best car to upgrade to. I would only say the 370z would trump that only if you would be planning to go Twin Turbo on it. Only then would i say hands down would be the 370z. But in terms of practicality id stick with the gen coupe with the choices you've given us.

The Evo has the best of everything. If you ever do need to take more people with you, you have the space for it. It has the high horsepower and high torque, and the AWD is always a plus. I'd go with the Evo.

    @kernoleary1394 8 років тому +53

Take the Z or the Evo depending what kind of condition they are in. I know the genesis comes with brembos and a vlsd, but the Z is a much better sports car, lighter, faster, handles better, has heritage and gets respect, and those extra options are available for a little extra money later down the road. Plus the Z's engine is probably the best sounding v6 of all time

I would say Genesis coupe it is literally the next step up. Has the most power out of the box beautiful sounding v6, fun rwd sports car to throw into corners, still comfortable enough to daily. It is familiar but only looks definitely drives a lot different then your previous car but still has a lot of the same concepts and maintenance you already know about the car. I would definitely go with the Genesis

  • @ricardomartinez2615

Evo x would be a full package but it's a MR, it all depends on what you plan to do with the car, Drift? 1/4 mile? or Faster on the highway. I got a Evo X GSR instead of the Nissan 370z because I'm more of a quarter mile guy and the Z is mostly a drifter's car.. My buddy has that Genesis and he doesn't like how long it takes to get to that peak power so it makes for slower 1/4 miles, My other buddy has a wrx hatch and he loves it, it really is the best bang for your buck in these 4 options for me just because its manual.... Hope that helps a little!

Depends on how much power you want to make and what kind of driving you like. The WRX and EVO grip like crazy, the evo has a more mod happy motor than the WRX. The only negative on the EVO is the interior and the transmission. The 6 speed isn't very strong. The WRX is a great daily, but the 5 speed will max out with the motor at around 320 whp. If you go with a subaru, get the STi. The 6speed is unbreakable basically. If you like drifting, I'd get the Nissan over the Hyundai. You're trading in a Genesis, so clearly you wanted something different. The EVO and STi are great cars, but obviously they don't drift much. However, once you go turbo you don't go back. There is something addicting about the turbo life. Either way, you've got a great list of cars here. Good luck with the choice!

In my opinion, the 370z is simply just more fun, minus a little comfort and practicality. It all depends on how much a back seat and a trunk matters to you. And for the other two, well, let's just say I love RWD.

I can attest to this. I just recently got a 2015 Evo X MRT with 36k miles on it a month ago (now 38k) for 43k and some change. There were many GSRs but only a couple of MRs and only 1 MRT; they definitely are a hard find nowadays. The MRs minimum were 35k, and most of the GSRs apart from a few clean spec ones were under 35k.

From a honest perspective? I'm a GenCoupe man, but I say go with the Evo. Genesis Coupe will always be my "go to" and the 3.8 V6 will always be fun. Had mine for a year and I still get thrills from it. The thing is though, you've already had a gen. While its good to stay with something familiar, it's basically the same car. It'll feel like a big upgrade (which would be the point right? lol) but that's it, just a big upgrade or not much of a new experience. The Z is amazing, but depending on the roads (and this is based off of others testimonials) it could be a joy or just plain tasking having to get used to feeling a lot more bumps and changes in the road as supposed to the Gen. I'm also a Subie over Evo kinda guy and that change happened recently within the last couple of years or so, but the thing is... there will be more WRX's down the road that we will grow to learn of. The EVO X is the last of the EVO that we all know and love, and chances may be that Nissan's intervention may promote the idea of retracting that statement of "No More Evo" but I'm calling this now. Nissan/Mitsu may make the next EVO (If brought back) a GTR fighter, and with that also a GTR fighter with a price tag. I'm really hoping that if they do bring the idea of another EVO back to the living? that It won't cost donating a couple of organs and taking out a loan to obtain. But with the latest trend of bringing back the names that tug a bit at the "memory lane" card. I wouldn't be all too surprised... The auto box is a stretch, if it was manual? I'd say it hands down. But If I had to give my choices in order? EVO, Gen, Subie, and then Z.

I'll get the EVO or WRX, but at the price point you're in I would just buy a new WRX. Much better all around car and really keeps its value. You might not think you need a back seat now, wait until you don't have the option, I learned the hard way.

Lol i am actually in a very similar situation. Im getting rid of my 2011 Genesis coupe 3.8 automatic and trying to get a manual version of those cars. I'm going to tell you from a tuning perspective of what I have researched.
Genesis coupe 3.8 2013+: The bk2 3.8 has the same engine as the old bk1 but with the addition of direct injection which could be a good thing and a bad thing depending if you are planning to tune it. Because it is direct fuel injection, you will not be able to run ethanol. They sell a turbokit from turbokits.com which I heard is great but you wont be able to run e85 so it will restrict you on power if you plan to boost it later on.
370z: The 370z is actually a bit quicker than the gdi genesis 3.8 and the rest of them from a ROLL not a dig but you will lose backseats. The 370z if I am not wrong has the best transmission out of all 4 and it comes with the rev matching which is cool. If you want to make more power, they make a fast intentions twin turbo and an AAM turbo (which I think that you already reviewed) for the 370z along with a stillen supercharger. I have heard that the fast intentions is slightly better and you can later on run ethanol which is really nice.
The evo and the wrx are basically the same but the wrx will run into more issues after you start adding in more boost because of the weak ring lands. And I believe the evo has a superior transmission to the wrx.

I'm sure you've already choosen what you're going to buy, but I try anyways. Tbh I'd go for the 370z. I think it's the best looking car between those and also I would keep staying with the rwd drivetrain.

I personally own a 2014 3.8 Genesis. I would recommend that's you stay away from it and that you go for one of the other cars. I thought my Genesis was grey when I first got it but there is honestly so many little that are horrible that make it worse than the cars. I'm personally looking at trading for a 370z

Bro id get the z they are so much fun to drive they look incredible and you'll never get tired of it perfect amount of power so much fun to slide around in it rear wheel drive are always funnest. The most practical would be the evo or sti they're quick and capable of any weather condition but they aren't as fun u just gas and Go rear wheel drive requires a little skill to drive and will always keep u on your tippy toes I say the z all day. As for the Hyundai I can't say much cuz am not to familiar with them I personally would take all the cars over the Hyundai tho Subaru and Nissan are very reliable mitsubishis are ok but Hyundai hasnt really ever been a real player in the car game till recently

i would say the Z or try to get the evo in manual. manual is so much more involved im driving. the subaru is a huge money pit, especially with mods on it. and the gen is amazing as well, but you just switched from a gen, but if thats what you wanna stick with, its perfect. but change is good as well. so again, probably the Z or the evo, if you can get it in manual

Z hands down, might be the least usable (lack of trunk space, 2 seats), but it can't be beat for the performance and reliability combo.
