I can’t believe how boring this sounds, but honestly showers are profoundly healing, a deep reset for me. I make all my own cleaning products, for hair and skin, and have my favorite smells ~ nothing better than that, except perhaps snuggling into bed a bit early just to feel the warmth and comfort.
@@ThankYouJesusTheChristthank you for sharing! I also LOVE showers. ❤ They are a true reset for me. What types of products do you make?
@@TheScienceofSelfCareI simply follow UA-cam tutorials, but I love the red onion clarifying shampoo from Cecil Vig, and the “co-wash” recipe from Humblebee (which healed my hair), and the solid soap from DIY Cosmetica with turmeric oil. Lots of goodies to smooth on afterwards, like lotion bars, dry spray oil (humblebee), yummy moisturizers with the watermelon natural fragrance from Simply Ingredients online. For face: strawberry Yoni wash from Prime Side, also from Prime Side is her new vitamin c serum. From humblebee, her Ceramide cream recipe with hydrolized pearl powder. And then an oil serum with like 24 of my fave oils. And a new creation that I made up, with mushroom extracts and beta glucans, eidelweiss, stem cells and hyalauranic acid… I’m calling it “mushroom drops” 💦
If you have yet to try this, I tell you it’s as easy as baking brownies. Try a lotion bar! Get really high quality ingredients and you’ll have the absolute best skin healers available on the planet. It’s so easy to beat store bought stuff in terms of quality and efficacy, a secret I am sure they don’t want getting out!
Let me know if you have questions! If I can do it, anyone can. 🤗
Thank you for your fantastic channel and helpful info!

Believe it or not, I love sitting in the garden on grass or soil, and weeding! I feel so centered and part of everything growing around me. I listen to the wind and birds and I'm in paradise. Especially in the early evening, late afternoon, before I start dinner. So peaceful. And no one will disturb you because everyone hates weeding 😂
Listening to a 10 min guided meditation before going to bed early. :)
Ohhh yes! Do you have a favorite / do you use an app?
@@TheScienceofSelfCare I'm not the original commenter but I do this too. I have a recording that used to be an Android app "Room to Breathe" - it's gone from the app store now. From one of her comments, she actually doesn't know that you breathe into your lungs, but listening to it has been very helpful through the years, and I'm used to it by now. Even older - it used to be an LP record of my grandfather's - is an audio called Relaxation, I believe it's the origin of the phrase "let go and let God". I have no use for God but I still listen to this from time to time, and it works pretty well.
The rainforest shower is such a cool idea! I struggle a lot with motivating myself to shower because of my ADHD (for whatever reason, baths are much easier for me), so I’m definitely going to try this out. 😊
Thanks Keely! There’s no one way to shower 😜 .. or do anything for that matter.
I’ve also had some “concert” showers (read: blasting music). 🥰
I had so much fun walking with you! It's such a treat to just be surrounded by good people, outside in nature, moving our bodies freely and for free :)
Moving freely for free 💕💕💕 thanks for sharing your thoughts with us! “Just chug it” 🥰
i literally watched this video at my standing desk while walking on a treadmill with my red light on. Lol. Each one of these decisions seemed so normal and reasonable when I made them individually, but now I'm imagining someone walking in on me watching this video while doing all this and how crazy it would look and much explaining it'd take. Just funny how these habits stack together and I end up in this place that I couldn't have predicted
Hahaha this is one of the most relatable things I’ve read in a while!! I’ve been in that exact situation and was just thinking about this recently.
I also wear a white cream face mask and mouth tape when I sleep (and I sleep in a very creepy dead bride position on my back). So I certainly would confuse / scare anyone who would stumble upon me in the night! 👻
@@TheScienceofSelfCare i mouth tape too lol! I know you did a video on that... have you done one on sleep position? I've been thinking about that lately, that might be next on my list. I've always been a side sleeper and it seems pretty obviously bad for my neck. I'm basically procrastinating on the adjustment period to be comfortable and able to fall asleep on my back.
I love my weighted blanket... though i wonder if the weight on my chest for back sleeping would be bad for breathing...hmm
Wow I loved this video cz it’s so practical and applicable…should be “low-cost, no-stress” self care habits haha
My addition to the list would be:
1. Cooking for my parents in the evenings. It feels like self care since it’s one activity after hours in front of the computer where I use other parts of my body and move about. And also because they’re so appreciative of whatever I make
2. An oil foot massage after my night shower to help press all the nerve points and just relax.
Since I’m already in your comments section, I want to thank you Robin for recommending Atomic Habits - it was a game changer. I ended up coupling listening to the audiobook with my morning walk routine. Needless to say, both habits helped reinforce each other. ❤
Aww - this makes me so happy!
I also LOVE cooking for my family. It’s the best transition from work mode to relaxation mode. I can completely relate to your experience.
But I never ever think of doing a foot massage! That sounds divine. 🙏✨
Re atomic habits: it was such a game-changer for me as well! I think I’ll re-read it soon.
Thank you so much for sharing! ❤️ xo
Love this so much , especially the rainforest showers lol so peaceful in a crazy busy world . I’ve been writing hand written notes and cards forever and giving things I no longer need or want to friends and family ….. donating is great too . Spending time with our precious fur babies is so important. Nature and beach walks are needed for the soul . 🎉❤health is true wealth . 😊
Yes!! Donating is such a great one. I always feel lighter in the process. Thanks for this reminder!
Beach walks with fur babies = true happiness. I’ve been walking with my mom and her fur babies regularly and it’s become a little highlight in my week. ❤️
The free movement one is HUGE for me ❤ For the last couple of years I’ve really embraced this and I enjoy movement and fitness SO much more. Less pressure, more joy! Going to write some loving texts today, to some friends 🙏 Thank you for the inspiration x
Awww yay!!! That makes my day. 🤳
And I can completely relate: I used to have such a tense relationship with movement.. when it can actually be so simple and joyful!
We’re born to move 🕺💃
Love all these ideas!
I like the idea of rain sounds and spending time in nature! Walking and listening to music are nice for self-care!
Thanks for sharing - yes they are! 🥰
I’m addicted to rain sounds: they are my go-to whenever I need to focus or get into sleep mode ⛈️
Super awesome!! will definitely practice these techniques :) Thank you for sharing
It’s not no cost but the cost is pretty low: I make these immunity shots every week to boost my immune system. It’s fresh ginger, fresh turmeric, fresh lemon juice, fresh orange juice, honey, cayenne pepper, and ground black pepper. I make a batch and then pour them into these small glass jars with a screw on lid and store them in the fridge. Very low cost and I never get sick.
That sounds so yummy!! And definitely saves a ton of money; those shots can cost up to $7 in LA! Thanks for sharing 🍊🍋 do you have a juicer that you recommend?
@@TheScienceofSelfCare I use a nutribullet to pulverize the ginger and turmeric with water and then strain the pulp. The oranges and lemons I just squeeze with my hands
Your videography skills are improving so much!!! It really fun to see your video's level up with every upload. Very excited to see what the future holds for you :)
Aw thank you Jaël ❤️ that’s so lovely! I have been having more and more fun with my video-making. It feels like this is just the tip of the creative iceberg :)
Love this!!!
🥰 thanks for tuning in!
Love the rainforest shower idea I have never heard of that before!
Haha thank you! 🤍 I don’t think it’s a real thing, I just call it that 😂 but it’s absolutely worth trying! 🌿
Self-care is absolutely within everyone's reach. Thanks for the reminder during the holiday season. We don't need to spend a small fortune on our wellness and happiness.
Yes ❤️ thanks for sharing. Everyone deserves the time and space for self-care and it absolutely doesn’t have to cost us a small fortune! Haha
Wishing you a happy new year with lots of lovely little life moments. ✨
Since I started my fitness journey a year ago, I have consistently told myself, "You get to train." Never,"I have to train." Although I had a fair amount of weight to lose and I did, I don't train mainly for physical attributes. I had to write myself a program that I could do every day to keep my mind from eating it's self. It's all self care to me.
I absolutely love your videos!!!! Just curious, What do you think of rebounding? You really sold me on buying the red light mask. Thanks for making these videos😍
Much goodness here. Thanks Robin.
It’s truly my pleasure! Thanks for contributing to the goodness ❤️
Happy Christmas, Robin!
Thank you so much 🥰 Merry Christmas to you! I hope your 2024 is filled with joy and great company 💫
Walking for an hour, with or without a good audiobook, a manuka honey mask, turning on the twinkle lights on my little birch tree in the afternoon, just because. A warm bath with Epsom salts and a good book, a short nap, or at least lying down and just relaxing for 20 minutes.
I don't think I have commented here before, but have been enjoying your channel. I especially appreciated a recent video sharing some of your favorite books. I had read or listened to some of them already, but added more to my to-be-read list.
Hi Catherine-thanks for sharing your favorites! Twinkle lights always add so much ambiance to a home✨
I’m so happy to hear you’ve been enjoying the channel! 🥰 Do you have any favorite health / wellness / self-care books I may have missed on my list?
@@TheScienceofSelfCare a very recently released book that I appreciated after reading Outlive a few months ago was Forever Strong, by Dr. Gabrielle Lyons.
@@catherineemerson99ohh haven’t read that one! Adding to my list :) thanks for sharing!
This video has me so inspired. You are brilliant, Robin.
Thank you, Rachel!! You inspire ME.
@@TheScienceofSelfCare 🥰🥰🥰
I love sitting barefoot in the grass and play with my dog or digging in the dirt planting seeds or transplanting some of my plants. Just being in nature. Sitting in the sand or in a chair on a beach,,,,listening to the seagulls and the waves
I have really enjoyed taking more time to cool my own food. Trying new recipes and making things that are fun and fresh (smoothies).
Yes!! Thanks for sharing. Experimentation and exploration in the kitchen also brings me so much joy 🥰
Loved all these ideas - definitely going to try a rainforest shower tonight !
Hope you like it!
The best is when you can also add some plants to your shower space (doesn’t always work for all bathrooms but if you have natural light you can turn your shower into an 🌿 oasis!!). ❤️
Thanks for sharing Robin, I will consider showers with rainforest sounds aafter watching your videos.
Today my list is: walking my doggies, Red light mask, cold baths outside for 5-8 min, and videos such as yours!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and vision with us!
Ohhh! Thank you for sharing your day ❤️ Cold bathing outside is inspiring! Do you have a cold plunge set up at your home?
@@TheScienceofSelfCare no plunge since it is a children's pool, I made a ritual first 2-3 Min to think of aspects of my life I am grateful for.
It gets me into a state of bliss, I feel on my back and head, headspine, shivers.
It sounds strange, but it is one of the highlights of that activity.
Walking has always been a good one for me.
You are a very healthy person. Expressing love to your friends, and journaling, and enjoy being surrounded by nature. I like waliking in the woods too!! And I will do Burpee from tomorrow 😮. I am happy that you are a healthy person and keep it up. (You seem to avoid sunlight. Blocking it with your hands. I thought many westerners like tanning)
Haha thanks for sharing your observations ☀️
I do try to limit my sun exposure because I have very fair skin that burns easily! I wish I had the ability to get a little tan but I just burn to a crisp (thanks, Dutch genes). 🥵
@TheScienceofSelfCare I used to watch 'Charlie brown' as I was growing up and had a thing about America. You look like one of 'em, giving letters to your buddies. Did they get along or argued sometimes? I tried to reckon, but realized it was a long time ago.
Thank you very much 😊
🥰
Such a cute video. Fun.
🥰🙏❤️
Red light therapy for 10 min and listening g to a mystery podcast. Your skin just glows!
Ohh mystery podcast! Like true crime podcasts? Or fiction? Which ones do you listen to? I remember being addicted to Serial!
I just listened to The Goodbye Party by Louis Lowra . It had narrators from Australia. It was a good story and I loved their accents.
I love your content💕
Thank you so much! 🙏 are there any topics you’re especially excited about currently?
about losing weight but in a natural and healthy way without losing yourself @@TheScienceofSelfCare 💕
I implemented one of these right after the video that I was listening to while coming back home from work: rain forest shower 🍃🌧 (for the light I used the flashlight of my phone pointed at the wall lol)
I think it will become my standard shower 😌😂 Thank you ✨️
Haha yes!!! Love it. Thanks for sharing your experience. 💗 It really always makes me feel relaxed, even on stressful days. 🌿
I just can’t bring myself to have cold showers 🚿🙃
They are pretty brutal! My version of a cold shower is a hot shower which you just end by turning off the hot water first and standing under the cold stream for a few deep breaths. :)
5:30 I use a shakti mat sometimes because people rated it quite highly on Reddit, it’s still early days since I’ve had it about a week.
The brand I use has an accompanying app which is nice for noobs :)
Thanks for sharing! My sister has one but I’m not sure how consistently she uses it. I remember loving the feeling when I tried it. I’d love to hear your first impressions of you feel like sharing!
your eyes 😮❤
Before I work I like to sit, choose a nice view and have a cup of tea :) some peaceful time before I start to move around
That sounds lovely. Thanks for sharing. Nothing like a hot drink moment in the morning 🥰
nature walks and morning cold shower my go to.
Thanks for sharing your essentials! It’s crazy how these things can make such a big impact on our daily state.
my pleasure. oh yes they do.@@TheScienceofSelfCare
You should do a video on gua sha
Can you please share your skincare routine ❤
Thanks for sharing 💕 Yes! A skincare video is in the works!
I’m still testing a few things and want to make sure I can stand behind everything I share :) so it’ll be coming out in the beginning of 2024 🌟 happy new year 💫💗
What are your top resources for learning the science behind wellbeing? I’m not too into going through academic research papers but would still like to learn from trustworthy sources. Books, channels, podcasts? 😊
What a great question! I personally like Huberman as an intro to topics and people. One thought leader I appreciate at the moment is Dr. Peter Attia. He wrote a great book called “Outlive” this past year.
In general, I try to rely more on books than podcasts because they are typically higher quality, more refined versions of information. If a book is written by an academic, I usually have more trust in the information. I love reading popular science books that distill a researcher’s career findings.
My favorite channel for really technical details about our body and metabolism is Physionic. I’ve been following Nicholas’s channel on UA-cam for a while and no one is as dedicated to creating content with scientific integrity as he is!
For anyone who is interested in academic sources - but who doesn’t want to dig through literature - Elicit.org is a great resource where you can essentially ask any question in colloquial language and it will deliver high-level answers based on published academic papers. It’s pretty cool!
Thanks for your reply! Makes a lot of sense. Maybe I'll look up Outlive :)@@TheScienceofSelfCare
I pray and thank the Lord for His goodness. If you don’t know how to start, you can read historic prayers of others, like Valley of Vision, which are free and in the public domain.
I am hoping these are self care--reading, longer in the shower then usual, sitting on my deck listening to the birds, I do at least 4, 5 mile walks a week, tae chi, yoga, talking to my brother who is always a positive person and others, a piece of chocalate with coffee in afternoon...
Thanks for sharing all your lovely activities!! Afternoon chocolate is a favorite of mine too. 🍫
Self-care is anything that genuinely nurtures our mental or physical health .. and the activities that fulfill us in this way will differ from person to person, life season to life season. We make our own self-care 🥰
Vedic meditation twice a day.
What audiobook are you currently listening to?
“The Courage to be Disliked” (seems to be very popular on the internet at the moment).. interesting book! Haven’t finished it yet so I haven’t formulated my thoughts.
I’m also reading “Blue Ocean Strategy” (I love business books).
I’m on the hunt for a new health book at the moment! If you have any recent favorites, I’d love to hear!
I’m thinking about starting “Waking Up” by Sam Harris since I’ve never read this one. 🤍
@@TheScienceofSelfCare The Upside of Stress by Kelly McGonigal is an amazing one..
@@gokulsv135 ohh!! That sounds perfect! I’m going to download it right now. Thanks for this rec 🙏🙏 loved her other book
@@TheScienceofSelfCare I hope you love this one too..
I love you a little bit .
Honey, how can I reach you?

Love your channel!!! May I ask what micprhone you are using? It has such a nice sound for the outdoor videos
