    Thanks for the review Robin. This sounds like the perfect device for me as I transition away from keto to low carb as I’ve started resistance training. I’m so unsure about my metabolic flexibility so this popped up on my feed at the right time.

      My organ mix supplement is freeze dried organ meat that’s very rich in vitamins and minerals. I take one of two a day and I’ve found they give me lots of energy. It’s essentially sort of like a natural multivitamin. As I mention in the video, every person’s body is different, so the only way to know if something works for you is to test and feel (and measure when you can). :)

I looked them up and it seems two of the three: Erica Rhodiola and Nordic Kings Organ Mix aren't shipped to the US. Do you have any tips or tricks on how I could potentially order and receive those here in the US of A? Thanks for all your work on putting these videos and insights together. In exercise physiology, the "RER" is used to determine fat vs carb burning. They measure oxygen used during an interval and CO2 exhaled. This is done by averaging many breaths over the course of some extended period of time. How is Lumen able to approximate this with CO2 alone?
    The fact that you get high cortisol in the morning is a flag for me that you likely have one or more polymorphisms in your genetics that result in your fatty acid oxidation not working optimally. I have the same issue, and my polymorphisms were in the CPT2 gene. It took forever to find those. The keto diet made me extremely ill for years, even after I stopped doing it, and I even now have not fully recovered. It was a terrible match to my genetics.
    I like your trick of taking a carb meal before sleep. That loads your glycogen overnight and prevents the need for cortisol to boost gluconeogenesis while you sleep.

    • @MM-li8nk
      @MM-li8nk 6 місяців тому

      I'm curious about the cortisol/polymorphisms connection. Can you tell me more? How you realised this connection and first off, whats the fastest way to see if you are a high cortisol upon waking type? TIA :)

    • @persistentone3448
      @persistentone3448 6 місяців тому

      @@MM-li8nkA good tool in general to expand your awareness of self-patterns is to buy continuous glucose monitors. The morning glucose surge before you eat any food is normally about cortisol rising and commanding the liver to make glucose. The CGM lets you visualize when that happens, either as you sleep or after you wake.
      Her "Fix your sleep" video talks about her waking at 4am, and she discovered that this corresponded to a rise in glucose. That glucose rise is likely higher cortisol, and in her case it might be that her glycogen stores exhausted, so the body rushes to make glucose. Her "trick" of eating carbs before bed is about expanding her internal glycogen stores, so that she never runs out of glycogen during the sleep period.

    • @persistentone3448
      @persistentone3448 6 місяців тому

      @@MM-li8nkThe easiest way to tell if your fat-burning metabolism may have genetic impairments is to fast or eat keto. Do you feel like death, and that feeling only gets worse as the fast continues? If yes, we have something to talk about. But diagnosing the root genetic cause for these kinds of metabolism issues is extremely difficult. No one helps a patient to do that unless you have a life-threatening metabolic mutation in your genes. Those more severe mutations are typically life-threatening and are seen in early childhood.

      @@persistentone3448 interesting, no probs fasting generally, haven't done long fasts, but can IF 20hrs no prob. I attempted a 3 day fast not too long ago, did ok, didn't go hard, had just water with electrolytes and a bone broth or 2 to ease in, went well. Do close to ketovore most days lately, no issues. Thanks for your reply. Yes sucks it's near impossible to get any sort of traction by 'the system' these days. Go well.

    I used your $50 discount code. Thanks! Been using keto test strips and am very frustrated with the readings as I monitor everything I eat and I'm eating very low carb. I should be in major fat-burning but for some reason, I'm not, and the scale reflects that. It's time to step up the game and see what I'm doing wrong.

    • @TheScienceofSelfCare
      @TheScienceofSelfCare  10 місяців тому +5

      Interesting-thanks for sharing! Are you eating quite high protein?
      Sometimes heavily restricting carbs can cause our body to go into stress mode. When our bodies are under stress, it can be more difficult to burn fat. That’s something I definitely saw in my own Lumen experience. Not everyone does well on Keto. One way some people overcome this is by carb cycling- making sure to have carb-up meals every so often.
      Ultimately, everyone is different and it’s a journey to find what works best for our bodies! You know your body best. :)
      Tools like Lumen can definitely help illuminate what’s going on.

      Hey! Thanks for your question. :)
      I do feel like this could tell you a bit about bodily stress (though not very directly). A better and more affordable way to test stress would be to do an at-home salivary coritisol test. You can essentially measure the stress hormone cortisol in your spit.

    It would've been nice if you actually followed the recommended meals to see if they would adapt to your results, and see if it was worth it. That's the part that combined with the device would make it for beginners imo. That's the part I want to know if works or not, and even though it didn't seem like what you needed at the moment, the idea was to see if the device recognized that what you ate did not meet your goals and it would try something else until it gets it right.
