I just bought a Woods Avens mens down parka (f20) which retails at $450, and this is after having a Ripzone winter coat that I bought in October 2012 for $300. Ten years between parka purchases is pretty good, I’d say.
I have had many winter coats including north face,Canada goose, bench, pajar, Columbia, and more. My favourite is the Pajar birch parka, it’s also a Canadian company and the coat cost around $700 Canadian so much cheaper then a Canada goose. Anyway just wanted to give my opinion, good luck on choosing a winter jacket.
Arcteryx is a very on trend brand but quite expensive. For something functional at a lower price point I'd look at Eddie Bauer. Their regular price can be high, but they often go on sale. If you are also in need of flannel shirts for warmth Eddie Bauer is also a good store for that although they fit kinda boxy so get a slim fit if you can. Before buying a parka I'd recommend checking the climate of where you live or are going to live in Canada. A parka in Vancouver would be very different (if at all necessary) than a parka needed for a place like Winnipeg or Montreal. Layering clothing is also a factor.
Canadians have a big tendency of buying Canadian..... just saying...you should take a look at OSC ( outdoor survival canada)...very Canadian and warm!! its -39C right now where I'm at :) no, I'm not in the arctic.
this is awesome! thank you! can you do a video on how to protect your home from the cold temperatures (protecting water pipes from freezing), (how you heat your home and save energy?)
I just got a Holubar Boulder and have to say it’s immense. Only tested it in Glasgow and London so far, not quite Canadian levels of cold but I’d bet it’s up to it.
Was going to give it a thumbs down but got used to the accent and I understood his explanations. I live in Chicago, this vid is worth watching all the way through.
i live near the james bay area and it reaches 30 degrees Celsius on average during winter so i really need a good coat this year, especially since its almost november
I will be in Kazakhstan (lows of -30) i bought a jacket that has 250g of 700 fill rating down. If i wear that with a base layer, walking trousers + jumper/shirt, a fleece and some lined water proof trousers will i be warm i also have gortex gloves and a ushanka ( although not the thickest Ushanka in the world).
Thanks a lot for the review. I am now choosing between the Woolrich arctic parka and arc'teryx therme. really not sure which one I should take. Arc'teryx design is great, but i find it a bit bulky. I ordered size M and it still looks kinda bigger than I would usually wear. Plus you mentioned that Woolrich is warmer, is that correct?
I would choose Arcteryx Therme is I would need to go with just one winter coat. It is more versatile and it has goretex which makes this coat water and wind proof. In my review I have Woolrich Laminated parka which is similar design to their arctic parka only lighter. Woolrich indeed a warmer than the Therme but doesn’t have goretex.
@@LifeInCanada Thanks once again! One more question - do you mean that the laminated version of Woolrich is as warm as the standard arctic parka? As I understand the laminated version is also waterproof unlike the normal arctic parka. Doesn't the fact that its weight is lighter make the laminated parka less warm than the non-laminated one?
