    Just discovered your channel and it really appeals to me because of the research you've clearly done and the comprehensive detail you provide... (And I need detail!). It's good when you provide metaphors in your explanations, which is creative and smart, and good too that you've occasionally referred to credible sources (nutritionfacts.org etc). Plus your videos, somehow, are kind of hypnotic :) so, subscribed and look forward to seeing more.

    After much back and forth I am finally listening and getting off the high carb, low fat thing (I SO wanted potatoes and rice to be the best foods for me!) I have reduced the amount of potatoes and rice I eat, upped the fat (I still eat some bread) and now weight that hasn't shifted in 2 years is finally starting to go. A long way to go yet, but for now I am feeling better on smaller smoothies with fat added (hemp or flax), vegetable juices with lemon and lots of greens....no more oven baked chips/fries every night. I don't know how other people get thin on rice and potatoes, they are lucky - it blew me up 25lbs! (Might be my age though, you just don't burn that much in your 50's unless you're super fit).

    thank you for the video! :) i just wanted to ask your thoughts on freelee not eating fats yet staying lean. i mean, i understand that there are different ways to archive it, and you just recommend an alternative way. but why do you say that "you should never cut out fat to lose fat, it just doesn't work that way"?

  • @Bay6768

    I can no longer eat fats because I don't have a gallbladder, so nuts, seeds, avocados will not work for my digestion. Also proteins are a big no no for me because my kidneys do not filter when I do consume proteins. What do you suggest I can substitute these foods with? So I can still receive the nutrients they provide.

    You mention that combining starch and fat is not optimal. What if the starch is from a plant based source such as sweet potatoes?

    • @JanPLopez
      @JanPLopez 8 років тому

      Never a god combo, for digestive reasons. But I recommend raw whole plant carbs over starches anyhow.

    Let me ask you:
    One meal I love to make is lentils with rice. I'll make two cups and that'll usually last me about 4 or 5 meals and I make a cup of red lentils which also lasts me a few meals and I'll add half a bag of frozen mixed vegetables. My favorite variety being the Japanese stir fry veggies with green beans, water chestnuts (adore those) carrots and broccoli and some sesame seeds. Is that something that works within a microvore plan?

      Yes, but I would eat that quantity at one sitting. Are you getting enough calories hun?

    • @greenpeach20
      @greenpeach20 8 років тому

      I can't imagine I'm not. My meals vary greatly, but what i described is a pretty typical lunch for me. Rice, lots of veggies, and some sort of lentil based side or bean based side or something like that. Breakfast tends to be all over the place, but i'll eat anything from homemade banana ice cream to oatmeal with nuts to fruit and so on. Dinner tends to be a repeat of what i had for lunch and then i'll snack on things. I'm sure that's where my issue is. I'll snack on crackers, or dates or mangoes since i've got them, right now i've got that chocolate brownie non-dairy ice cream ben and jerrys came out with and i've been nibbling on that since I got it last weekend. It's probably the snaking more than anything, but something i'm doing it making me platue really hard. I'll eat and not gain any weight, but i'm either not losing or losing excruciatingly slowly.

      green vegetables hardly have any calories. we use more energy digesting the cellulose in green vegetables, than the amount of energy they contain.

      +VeganBanana Yes white sugar or just processed sugar in general. I've found when I have problems with it, staying hydrated always seems to help, also avoiding or limiting coffee and processed foods that are high in fat and salt. But even I enjoy vegan take out sometimes. I'm not 100% whole foods plant based yet, probably about 85% but I just found that always water, water, water is key to over all health and balance. That's just my experience, I'm sure her answer would me more scientific.

      Another way of saying "I don't have my facts straight"

  • @KaiKai-td9gp
    @KaiKai-td9gp 8 років тому

    Basically you are misunderstanding the fact that it takes energy to make energy... If you consume 400 calories you can' expect your body to use 20-30 of those calories to digest the food... Go back to nutrition school sweety you'd do the world good if you got your facts straight :)

    • @PaleoPlate
      @PaleoPlate  8 років тому +11

      +Kai Kai The physical breakdown and absorption of food does require the input of the body's energy reserves and circulating calorie containing molecules. I never said the calories contained in a particular meal will be used, they have not officially entered the body until they have been absorbed in the small intestine. I would appreciate more politeness in your response should you choose to provide a well reasoned one :)

    • @KaiKai-td9gp
      @KaiKai-td9gp 8 років тому

      This says it all; Diet-induced thermogenesis the energy required to digest and assimilate the food; measured as an increase in body heat production after eating. It typically represents only about 10% of total daily energy expenditure and is related to the type and amount of food ingested. Also known as thermic effect of food. Fats have relatively little thermic effect and proteins the most. You are really misunderstanding and misrepresenting the facts about DIT

      Glad I said it at the end ;-) You can listen to this girl spew nonsense out of her mouth if you want. But when I see bullshit I call it bullshit. If you want to understand and teach nutrition then go back to school and finish your nutrition degree. She has a lot of potential and she should focus on becoming a credible source of knowledge and information by continuing and completing her education.
