    If you wanna get an idea of how surprisingly big this game is, just know Helldivers 1 never even broke like 7k concurrent players. Helldivers 2 broke 50k on launch and servers were flooded to the point that people couldn’t even log in cause of skyrocketing player numbers that the devs didn’t expect! Right now I’m seeing on a good day 500k helldivers on both PC and PlayStation! All this from a couple well made trailers and word of mouth

      And most importantly one hell of a fun game. I have no idea what H1 was like but I bet Helldivers 2 got mainstream appeal by changing it to a TPS rather than bird's eye. But especially those trailers and the tone and humor that is built into every core of the games DNA makes it a phenomenal game. I am an old school gamer and what I love about Helldivers 2 especially is that it's not trying to be too serious. It has that old school game charm where the games were still very clearly games meant to be enjoyded and to have fun with the experience.

    That's the awesome part in this game: the "campaign" IS the multiplayer mode. What happens in the galactic war depends on the investment of the community as a whole. I mean, you could play alone if you want, but you get more rewards by playing as a group. You can even invite yourself in any mission that is already started (and that is not full house yet) to help your fellow helldivers!

      @@Toaster_Weevil I distinctly remember my final stand before the fall. I’d been running solo ops for a while, and this was supposed to be no different. Only a five. Simple. Quick. Clean. At first, it was normal. I’d managed to take out a few factories undetected before I was discovered by a random patrol, catching me off guard. From that point onward, I was under a constant hail of enemy fire from every direction. The intel had to be wrong, this wasn’t a five, this was at least a six, maybe a seven. I managed to complete my objective, and made the call to get the fuck out. The optionals were inaccessible through the flood of enemy machinegun fire scything down trees. By the time I got to extract, it was occupied. Mission timer had run out, and emergency extract was on its way. Ten seconds to touchdown. Surrounded. Berserkers closing in. One grenade left. No stims. Pelican lands, and a stray rocket from a devastator’s salvo slaps me to the ground, crippling my leg. Countdown begins. Unable to stand. Desperately crawling towards the ramp. Five seconds to takeoff. And then the crushing realization that I wouldn’t make it. There wasn’t enough time. So I pulled my final grenades pin as the berserker hoard closed in around me. Then the sweet embrace of oblivion. A noble death, in democracy’s name. Once I was back in orbit, I was ready and willing to do it all again. Finding the Creek lost was heartbreaking
      Remember the Creek. The heroes we lost there cannot be forgotten, and their sacrifice must not be in vain. FOR DEMOCRACY

      @@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames I'd strongly recommend checking out the book it's based off. You can find audiobooks for on UA-cam too. The surprising thing is, the Federation from Starship Troopers is often described as fascistic which is bizarre as there's next to nothing in the book or movie (despite Verhoeven's best attempt) besides a single line about needing a license to have children (which isn't in the book. He also only read the first two chapters before getting bored.

      @@Sujad Starship Troopers (the movie) not being fascist? Brother, we must have been watching different films then. The movie is riddled with fascist ideology and themes, and mocking all of it. For fucks sake, one of the main characters has a uniform that's almost identical to a WW2 Nazi one. The only thing you're possibly right about is that the book and the movie aren't very similar, which isn't really important. There's been a debate about the book being fascist or not since it came out, so it's not that controversial.
      What's bizarre is that you can't see it.
      You guys are gonna force me to read the damn book so I can form my own opinion, which I'm not really looking forward to. *sighs*

      What fascistic ideologies and themes does it have?
      You can find the Starship Troopers audio book on UA-cam and if you can get past the first two chapters, congratulations, you've gone farther than Verhoeven did.

    • @Fordo007
      @Fordo007 3 місяці тому +1

      @@SilverionXTo be fair the movie didn't really have much fascist ideology beyond fashion. The uniform looks like a Nazi uniform... but the actual Federation that's presented doesn't really have much fascist elements.. It's less a critique of fascism and more a critique of propaganda and to a lesser degree militarism. And both of those things are not universal to fascism. Nothing the Federation did in the movie felt out of place for any Western nation to have done or do. Heck I'd argue the US in WWII was more militarist and had even more propaganda than the Federation, and the US used the draft and forced people into the military while the Federation was solely volunteer.
      I'm aware of the director and his statements and intent... but he either did a very poor job portraying fascism or he doesn't understand it. He got the fashion choices down for sure, but that's it. it's all just surface level things that aren't unique to fascism. The Federation in the movie has FAR more in common with the Roman Republic in the 1st Punic War than Italy in the 1930s.

    Helldivers 2 is so much fun! And it’s on-going all the time. As one of the creators mentioned that it gives them ways to interact with the players, like the have a guy named Joel (literally factual) that is something called along the lines of “Game Master” if I’m correct that he will give out the major orders where players will have to defend a planet, or attack a planet that was overrun by one of the two current enemy factions. I guess there was a story that Joel had to wake up in the middle of the night to have a bunch of plants be under attack due to the players pushing too far into one of the enemy factions territories because we as players are not ready to get that far quite yet! They really did an amazing job with this game and they continue making it great!

    Fun fact, there is premium credits in game that you can buy to unlock more weapons, armor, etc, but, you can get those premium credits in normal missions around the map, and they usually come in bundles of about 50-100, the most any one thing costs is 1000 credits, and you can easily get 100 in a single mission, and upwards of 250 if you search around enough, and this is every mission you play.
    (The 1000 credits is to unlock a premium warbond, which is basically just a tree of stuff for more armor, guns, etc, the main tech tree's stuff is honestly better than anything in the premium stuff, and it's mostly just for cosmetics/to slightly augment your playstyle)

    the biggest strength of the game is probably how easily it generates completely rediculous situations that are a lot of fun, even when loosing or dying. the friendly fire aspect in itself is a never ending source of laughter.

    SO they have a game master named Joel.... sometimes he helps you.... sometimes he spawns tons of enemies to break you... me and some buddies were destroying drop ships before release their troops. Near the middle end of the missions Joel must have noticed because suddenly there were 20 drops ships spawning at once.... fun times.

    My favorite bit of lore that one of the devs hints at in one of the videos but doesn’t really become apparent until you start finding messages in the game is that all the conflicts Super Earth is engaged in were started by Super Earth- the bugs aren’t spreading themselves across the galaxy, Super Earth spread them across the galaxy in order to farm them for a valuable resource and accidentally lost control of them. Likewise the robots are a defensive measure against Super Earth created by the remnants of peaceful cybernetic human civilization that tried to declare independence from Suoer Earth and was nearly genocided for it in the first game.

    There really isn't a set campaign like other games, but rather a story driven by player action and Devs basically DMing. A great example of this is Malevelon Creek. A jungle planet eternally set in twilight. Normally just a hard Automaton planet, but due to the launch focusing on the Terminids barley anyone was playing it. So you then got war stories of those that were there... The trees, they spoke binary. Through community action and the Devs themselves messing with the spawn rates, The Creek has now gotten recognized as Space Vietnam. Where New divers go to become veterans or die trying. Creek Crawlers is what those that thrived there were called, their mission: Spill Oil.

  • @Piemur1
    @Piemur1 3 місяці тому +1

    Something of note that might not be better explained. The developers have integrated what is something like a Dungeon Master system controlled by a single developer named Joel. He is the one who effectively controls the big picture. He tells the story by dynamically changing the galactic invasion. You likely heard about Malevelon Creek and it's fall. You probably heard about the planet where the mechs are being constructed. He is the one who basically gives the broad-scale objectives. Everytime a team beats a level, they liberate that planet by something like 0.0002%-0.0004%, and it takes the collective efforts of EVERY player succeeding their missions, and it's incredibly slow, but with so many people working together, they can liberate a planet. But just like any good enemy race, they will push back. They will try and flank the overextending Super Earth forces or retake planets liberated by us. He is also the one who rewards us by granting us medals for completing the major and personal objectives. The major objectives are usually given a number of days to succeed, such as activate sufficient Termicide Towers that are supposed to kill or control the Terminids. Or push and liberate a couple planets that are behind enemy lines (which means you have to liberate planets in the way). And sometimes they're simply too short or too hard to complete. But there's a consequence for that, sometimes. Sometimes because of a failure by the Helldivers for a Major Objective we could be hit by an effect across the board that like the Tyranids would have a major surge or something. Or the Automatons' factories are in full swing which means that more enemies would spawn in a reinforcement wave or something. Things like that could be happening behind the scenes without us knowing. And this all boils down to what the SuperEarth Government is having us focus on. For example, by focusing too hard on Terminids, they could lose track of the bigger picture on the other side and the Automatons could suddenly push back a huge amount, and we could lose a few sectors. And it requires controls that are built into the game. And planets can and often do have a global effect, such as a hot planet would make energy weapons overheat faster, cold planets would overheat the weapons slower, some planets could have ion storms that prevent calling in strategems, or have meteor storms, or the strategems take longer to arrive, or only allow you to bring 3 strategems instead of the usual 4. There's a lot to unpack and it's great that the community as a whole are responsible for effecting how things happen. Our successes are shared, and so are our failures.

  • @Drakefance5

    Been playing nearly daily since launch. The game's a blast, figuratively and literally, Would highly recommend it to anyone interested in shooters. It's just fun killing Communist bots and Tyrannical bugs in the name of Managed Democracy. Tons of explosions, tons of team killing, alot of laughs with mates. And the way new content works is great, For example, that mech from the trailer. The Automaton bots took control of Super Earth's mech foundry planet, So the devs gave us the challenge, take back the world and the mechs are yours instantly. Fail and the bots with get the mechs and you'll have to wait a couple of weeks. It makes the game feel so much more alive when your actions have real tangible consequences for not just you but the entire Community.

For example there is a cosmetic store for armor and every review has given 5/5 stars and with a praising review but occassionally if you refresh the store there will be a 1/5 stars and the card will say: [Redacted] This comment is under investigation for Treason. Getting killed by your friends is not only possible, it's highly probably, but you'll probably be laughing at the absurd moments.

    Good game plus they have good people working behind the scenes and the people aren't the typical corporate greedy pos's haha. To be honest you can tell that they love the game they made. When it first launched, the servers were terrible because they had too many people for the servers and the CEO (or someone else from the team, can't remember) said to not buy the game and/or wait until the servers were operational. He actually wanted people to not buy the game, unlike other CEO's and companies that might blame their customers. They also have done a lot of other cool stuff but I can't remember them all tbh haha.
