Renault’s decision to swap the snappy, short-shift manual gearbox of the previous-generation Clio RS for a high-tech, dual-clutch version with shift paddles upset the petrolhead fraternity - and to be honest, they had a point: it was clumsy, slow and got in the way of an otherwise brilliant package. An updated version sticks with the EDC gearbox - but updated software and other refinements make the result a lot more satisfying.

I have this version of the clio RS and I really enjoy it, I put it into manual mode on most drives apart from town. Car models often get updates to software through their lifetime and this review reflects that.
