Thank you for the 3-part education on Florida palms. I am new to Florida gardening as I just moved to the central region and I want to know and care for my plants. I found some of the palms you discuss in my garden it many others I wish you had also included. Can you please add another video about other, perhaps more common to mid-Florida, palms? I really appreciate the education - thank you!
This is awesome, glad we could help! Seeing we are in Northeast Florida it can be hard talking about palms from mid- Florida because the winters are slightly warmer. A good website to use for mid/southern palms is (south-florida-plant-guide.com) they have a huge list of the palms that can grow in your area. Definitely, keep watching our videos, David knows everything there is about exotic and local palms.

What if after a freeze i now have bugs burrowing into my Christmas and foxtail palms in their trunks. Treated with sevon dust please advise
Boring insects are typically beetles and occur with greater frequency in stressed plants, which after the freeze and depending on nutritional conditions put your palms at risk. Bonide and Fertilome sell a Tree & Shrub Drench you should probably consider using.
with an upcoming freeze warning for our area, I was going to wrap the trunk of my three foxtail palms with some heat tape and run some up around the crown to prevent any freeze damage. you do mention they can handle temps into the twenties but just wanted to be safe. any harm in doing that?
Sorry for the delayed response. Hopefully, they weathered those awful cold temps for us here in Florida.

I’m located in Ohio. Have a big greenhouse I house all my palms. Plan to move to FL here soon. I’m looking for Copernicia and bottle palm and fox tail seeds. Love these palms and the more I look in different palms I’m loving them more and more.
@@burmese434 That is awesome. Come by our garden center when you get to FL. Unfortunately we do not sale palm tree seeds, we sell 3 gal palms and up. They best way to purchase seeds is most likely an online store.
Can Foxtail palms grow and do well in Southern California? I'm very interested in purchasing several but can't seem to find them in my area. Any info is much appreciated.
Yes, as long as the Foxtail Palms are planted along the coastal areas Southern Cali, LA to San Diego! Temps have to be maintained above 28 F during the winter months.

Hey thanks for responding and no it’s fine. But since you responded I’d like to ask how do I dig out a baby palm tree from the dirt? I tried this morning and figured out the root is too deep for the knife I had and I didn’t want to kill it. I tried to dig out several palm babies like hand size and I couldn’t
@@cano2xWhat size is this baby palm tree, and is it an offset to a large clumping palm, or is it a solitary seedling (germinated from seed)? If so you can dig 6 inches out from the diameter of the trunk, which will produce a 12 inch diameter rootball. Also dig down12 inches in depth.
How is that smaller foxtail at the end of your video?
David responds, "The foxtail palm in Part III was sold to a customer, not too long after the video. It has survived the past two Winter seasons."

can you please elaborate on the type of soil for the Foxtail? should it be enriched with lots of compost and organic matter?
David says "soil that contains sand or silica to provide drainage with a mix of rich organic compost and or potting soil."

Phoenix sylvestris 'Indian Date Palm' produces Jaggery or Toddy, this is done in India! Jubaea chilensis 'Chilean Wine Palm' is also a Wine producer, however it will only grow vigorously in a Mediterranean Climate type, like Coastal California, Spain, France, Italy and of course Chile, where the palm is Native to! 🌴🍷

I have a feeling that palm trees will eventually rule the planet. Future generations of human civilizations would cultivate oil, cereal, fruits and fibre from palm trees. Palm trees will one day grow hair, produce anti-freeze materials, shed leaves to adapt to even arctic regions. Palm trees are new comers to the planet earth in the evolutionary arms race.

@@EarthWorksJax It might due to continental drift as well. Antarctica might used to be in tropical region. Likewise, Australia is smashing into Asia. One day it will become a continent on the equator with large rainforests while creating island chains connecting Japan.
