    Those are awesome palms and I need to grow one in our garden, I tried one in the late 1980's in a zone 8a/8b and it packed it in when cold hit

    I am from Baghdad, the capital of Iraq, and the type of Sykes (Raflota) is planted in the ground and its location has not been changed since it was planted 15 years ago. The sun reaches it directly in the months of July and August, and I cover it with special agricultural cover. As for the rest of the months of the year, it receives (indirect) sunlight. We fertilize it in the winter with animal manure or compost, and in the summer I fertilize it with NPK fertilizer.

      Betrocks Guide to Cold Hardy Palms is a book written by author Alan Meerow. This a book I have in my Palm Encyclopedia collection, it is not a book I have written. I currently have not personally written any books at this current time, maybe one day in the future I will be able to write a book on palms!

    Man I have palms up here in Indiana and I have my windmill palm and Chinese fan palms in a zone 6 climate. And they do really well where I'm at. But I keep them in pots just encase of a really bad cold snap.

    Hi David , excellent video . I'm struggling to Identify a fan palm that grew from seed in my garden. I live in the south of Spain where the streets are surrounded in palm trees of multiple types so not sure where my seed came from . characteristics are : single trunk, flat fan leaves , quick growth (13 leaves and about 3 feet tall in 18months) ,spikes on stems, approx 30 thick leathery leaflets per leaf each with fibrous hairy edges , bright green on both sides - any Ideas ??? Gracias

    Here in India Windmill palms die almost in months if planted in absolute sandy soil... A hotel planted many mature specimens of these and only two are left..

  • @sixpackyoung9698
    @sixpackyoung9698 3 роки тому +3

    One thing can be better is put the plant separate on a display table without any other plant next to it. It hard to differentiate of which one you are talking about since they all fan palms.

    Can you recommend a cold tolerant palm for my front yard in Atlanta, Ga? I tried a Sago but it died and now I have a European palm and it grows very slow.

    • @geauxdesormeaux8856
      @geauxdesormeaux8856 3 роки тому

      Sago will grow in Atlanta. The fronds will brown and die back but the roots and truck will survive and shoot new fronds in late spring. I have 5 .
      Windmill , Pindo , Sabal Minor , will all do well. I suggest you put it on South side of home and plenty of sunlight . Good luck

      If you take a road trip down 75 to south of Macon and find a Lowe’s or Home Depot you can find a lot of good palms for a good price. I was in Moultrie this weekend and hit the jackpot at a Lowe’s . Bring a truck

      You can try a Sabal palmetto or a pindo palm, I’ve seen them in the ATL metro area, or even a windmill palm, they trunk and are cold hardy
