Sally Sparrow is the best companion that never was and even if she doesn’t get a run as a companion, she definitely deserves a return visit
2:18 still can’t believe your gone, Wilf.
RIP Mr Cribbins ❤️
In addition: Simon Pegg, Bill Nighy, Olivia Colman, Alan Cumming, Timothy Dalton, Donald Sumpter... So many talented guest stars.
Mark Addy too! Robert Baratheon himself was in the finale of Series 11
Stephen Fry, Aisling Bea, Goran Višnjić, Charlotte Ritchie, Rachael Stirling, James Corden👀
Sir Ian McKellen.
Does Sophia Myles count?
Diana Rigg and her daughter together in the same episode should count too.
@@joesmith8600 James Corden doesn't count. He's not iconic, talented, or an award winner.
Andrew Garfield could not keep serious when Tennant said “you too frank if you want”😂😂
Even though the Doctor isn't the main character in it, I've often used "Blink" to introduce people to the concept of the show. It wouldn't work without Carey Muligan as the very likable (and relatable) Sally Sparrow.
I agree. It's a shame they never returned as a proper companion but I believe she was in America performing on Broadway at the time the next series came around so they were unable to get her, though it did mean we got Catherine Tate instead and she was probably the best companion of 10's run. I feel like if Sally did become a companion her and her boyfriend might have ended up with a similar roles to how Amy and Rory did later on.
@@Noobie2k7 That would actually have been something. On the other hand I love Donna so it all worked out.
After seeing "Blink" I developed a crush on Carey Mulligan. I loved how she said "spooooky!"
Really?!? It may be the best ever Doctor Who episode, but it's a terrible 'first' episode - it's nothing like how the show typically is
Something like Eleventh Hour I think would be a better choice of episode to introduce the show
A lot of these are from the RTD era, let's hope we get plenty more in his new era! 😄
You must be pretty happy right now.
John Hurt was amazing to see as a guest star and à brilliant actor obviously. Granted more than one guest star was great to see but John Hurt was the best surprise
Wilfred Mott will always be my favourite !
Amen
🥺
Agreed!
I personally can’t stand Wilfred. He is annoying and drawn out. In fact, I hate season 4. 😂
@@joshuat9982You are not real
And to think, The Daleks had Spider-Man all this time.
Every time I see David Tennant I smile, I believe it's called The Power of the Doctor
Clever
Carey Mulligan deserved to be a next companion, even just for a few episodes.
2:08: "It Stinks!! I Loves it!!"
Andrew Garfield 😱😱 Never notice that ! I have to see that episode again !
The excerpt in this video isn't fair enough, there are better moments with Andrew Garfield than this, in which he hasn't any dialog.
1st Doctor: "If you could touch the alien sand and hear the cries of strange birds and watch them wheel in another sky, would that satisfy you?"(An Unearthly Child, 1963)
The War Doctor at 11:30 : Standing on the alien sand, watching the birds crying and wheeling in alien sky.
C H I L L S
John Hurt the Doctor we did not know we needed. The introduction to him as War Doctor is an iconic Doctor Who moment.
And Wilf, that episode went from being, "Look its Kylie!" To "ITS WILF!!!!!!" Adding in a much loved hero of a character.
Truly enjoyed them all.
But my "vote" for my favorite is John Hurt.
John Cleese in City Of Death and Oscar winner Olivia Colman say "hi!, as do Simon Pegg, James Bond himself, Tim Dalton , Emma Peel herself Dame Diana Rigg, Michael Gough, Pauline Collins, and OK names that may not be icons but...Phil Madoc, Stubby Kaye, Marius Goring, Andre Morell, Toby Jones, Michael Gambon, Celia Imrie, Sarah Lancashire, David Warner, Alan Cumming, Lenny Henry, Stephen Fry, and many more!
Sir Ian McKellen and Bill Nighy
Andre Morell? When?
John Hurt is not a guest star, HE IS THE DOCTOR
He was the big guest star of that episode
Maybe Billie was the guest star?
This is factually correct
I remember when at the end of "The Name of the Doctor" when the music swirled, he turned round and the caption appeared "Introducing John Hurt as The Doctor". Literal punch the air moment. Felt SO right. 🙂
Yes, k wish he did more stuff, he deserves more. May he Rest In Peice
Don’t forget the voice of Sir Ian McKellan as The Great Intelligence and Dougray Scott in the episode with the astronaut and psychic.
There are a large number more special guest stars on the show, dating back to the 60's, enough that Doctor Who Magazine put out a special edition about them. Dozens from the UK, US and elsewhere. But this sampler, with Kylie and Bernard; Carey and Maisie and Sir John, will suffice. A complete one will last several hours.
I was expecting a longer list. There were sooo many great guest stars.
Also Kylie Minogue, the Australian singer, in the episode with the flying Titanic, Felicity Jones (The Theory of Everything, Star Wars) in the one about Agatha Christie, and Derek Jacobi (The Gladiator) as the character who turns out to be the Master.
Kylie Minogue was in this video. She was literally the first one.
@@rachelcookie321, you're right
Daniel Kaluuya is the most shocking one here, Andrew Garfield and Carey Mulligan I at least was like "oh yeah I remember now" but Daniel I had absolutely no clue!
What about Felicity Jones, do you remember her as well?
Daniel was in one of the quarterly specials rather than in the main series so it was fairly easy to miss
@@madunwagbo4769 He also wasn't the main guest star either. When I found out which episode of DW he'd been in, I couldn't place him until I looked at the episode itself.
@@Elwaves2925 exactly, the main guest was Michelle Ryan who had got a lot of traction in the U.S. as Jamie Sommers in the 21st Century reboot of The Bionic Woman
@@madunwagbo4769 She was also fairly well known in the UK because she'd been in a soap. I don't watch soaps and even I knew who she was.
Plus, there was also Lee Evans who was massively popular at the time over here.
Mr copper has gotta be one of my favorite
Iconic guest star Andrew Garfield!
(There's no way in 2007 you could know how big he'd become 😆, but hey, he's definitely iconic in retrospect)
That applies to Carey Mulligan, Daniel Kaluuya, Felicity Jones and Olivia Colman. All became far more famous and had Oscar wins/nominations after their appearances in DW.
The point is that they are iconic in retrospect.
Hadn’t he JUST done Lions for Lambs around the same time? I know he’d also done a Channel 4 three parter, Red Riding
@@madunwagbo4769 Red Riding was a couple of years after DW but Lions For Lambs was the same year.
Love that there’s a Coral betting shop in the background when the Doctor and Astrid arrive on earth 😂
Derek Jacobi, George Baker, Jean Marsh, John Cleese, Patricia Quinn...
they could have done a who spin off series with Sally.
There is a large fraction of men with a crush on Sally Sparrow.
Her friend was pretty hot too.
carey mulligan / sally sparrow, my favorite, wish she had become a companion
0:00 please get out your celebrity bingo card now!
Life is not fair. Wilred and the Queen he loves have both passed. This suuuuuckks...
We need a part 2
What about Stephen Fry? Or the young actor that played Merlin?Or even David Troughton?
That time Spider-Man was in Doctor Who
No fires of Pompeii with Peter Capaldi!?!
Kylie! 💙
you could also had
Ian Mckellen voiced the Great Intelligence in the episode Voice o f the Snowmen episode. He was later replaced by Richard E Grant in future episodes.
Helen Mcrory.(aka Harry Potter, Woman in Black 2, Peaky Blinders, James Bond Skyfall) Was in the episode Vampires in Venice.
Peter Serafinowicz (aka Shaun of the dead, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 1, Voice of Darth Maul). Voiced the fisher king in the episode Before the Flood
Iain Glenn (aka Game of Thrones, Resident Evil film franchise, Titans TV series) was in 2 episodes. The time o Angels and Flesh and Stone
Micheal Sheen (aka Underworld films, Tron Legacy and Passengers film) Voiced House in the Doctors Wife
I thought Carey Mulligan should have been a companion, she was so delightful. The same with Georgia Moffett.
It's great to see how many big names Doctor Who has managed to get, especially some before they become super famous (like Andrew Garfield). I look forward to seeing how many more we get in the future!
BBC acting pool. Not all that big, unfortunately. Oh, there are a lot of talented people in Great Britain who can act and perform, no doubt. The best thing I can compare the BBC acting pool to is the acting pool found for New York television actors. Playing three or more different characters in all the shows set in New York, mostly Law & Order.
I point and laugh at archaeologists!!
I sort of would like to see Crispin Freeman be an opponent of the Doctor as a wolf-like alien hitman.
They wanted to show Andrew Garfield’s iconic appearance in Doctor who and they picked a scene where he just stands in the background and does nothing the whole time lol. I think they must of been talking about someone else at first because he seemed like basically a background character but then I realised that really was Andrew Garfield.
Yeah, he gets a bit of a speech/conversation in the show, this was a bad clip to use.
don't forget Josh Dallas from ABCs/Disney's Once Upton a Time. his face was used in the library with Katherine Tate
@@toddrutkowski6217 It is? I didn't realise that.
@@Elwaves2925 watch an episode of Once, then The two Library episodes from series 4. I'll see if I can get a screen cap
Clive Swift should have been included in this list of actors.
Grandad!
God save the queen
Bill Nighy should have been on here!!!
No Simon Pegg :(
or Nick Frost
Serial Doctor who 😭😭😭😭😥😥😥😥
Astrid ❤❤
Sad that the only clip of Andrew Garfield's guest appearance didn't even feature any of his dialogue
What about Neil Patrick Harris? He’s gonna be the next guest star.
They can't exactly show us a clip of that though can they?
All greats 😍
No one's mentioned Tom (Lucifer) Ellis in 'Last of the Time Lords'
Mark Addy and Alan Cumming probably should have made this list
Sir Ian McKellen
7:10 I FEEL LIKE…
Hey BBC, release 'Torchwood: Absent Friends'
❤❤❤❤
James Corden was left out:(
And rightly so
Reminder: other words to describe things other than “iconic” exist.
In The Christmas episode with the Titanic what species were the human looking people? Some people who live longer in Doctor Who retain memories and others don't. Still have no idea who the actress from blink is. Is it really a guest star if you don't know or never hard of them.
She's Carey Mulligan. She is in a lot of films, including Drive.
Well, just because you don't know them doesn't mean they aren't a guest star. It's about the wider perspective, not your personal view. As stated above, it's Carey Mulligan and she's really made a name for herself, including a couple of Oscar nominations, for whatever they are worth these days.
There is Game of Thrones Iconic Stars in Doctor Who
Where’s Olivia Coldman
coleman?
Mark Gatiss
Who is she? 15:32
John Hurr as a *GUEST STAR?* how dare you!
Most aren’t iconic, just famous actors
Rory Jennings’s ?????
Sir John Hurt was NO guest star, dammit!
No iconic guest stars for the 13th Doctor to include, of course, because there were not any of note.
Stephen Fry, Lennie Henry... But you are right, of course...
It's always jarring to hear him talk with his real accent at the end of these videos after hearing his "Doctor accent" in the clips.
Who are the guest stars.? Can recognise Kylie and Bernard cribbins. but no one else thank you
It literally says in the corner of the start of each clip, where it also reveals the episode name. 🙄
Show us Peter Kay, you cowards.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😂😂🎉❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉
Williams' character was obnoxious.
So saddening that they killed such a wonderful franchise with all the woke politics.
It’s been “woke” since 1963. Anyone using that term as an insult is confirming themselves not a part of civilised societt and can easily be ignored.
Useless comment, out of contest as usual.
@@sabrinatirabassi3529 Not trying to win a contest. Just stating facts.

The best doctor David Tennant was really hot and handsome there😍Georgia was beautiful.
