When Jacob (Taylor Lautner) finds out that Bella wants to spend her honeymoon as a human, he is horrified -- for Edward's passion could accidentally kill her. Bella does indeed survive her honeymoon, but a new complication arises when she discovers that she's pregnant -- and the child is growing at an alarming rate. The pregnancy sets the wolves against Bella and Edward, but Jacob vows to protect his friend.

    At the end when Aro says they have something he wants, he's referring to Edward and Alice. In one of the books Edward reads his thoughts and knows his desire is to have both of them and hold court with them on either side of him. Since Aro can read thoughts via touch, his desire is to be holding both their hands and thus have the present and the future known to him at all times. In the films they strip it down to just wanting Alice, but you gotta admit, an egotistical ruler would totally want that power and advantage over others.

    • @mr.k301
      @mr.k301 Рік тому +60

      Yes , Aro was a collector of talents & special abilities... All these centuries he has been collecting people with special abilities and turning them into vampires... Or if they are already a vampire from another coven, he just destroys the whole coven for breaking some made-up law & pardons the person he wanted all along. That's also one of the reason why Voltri are strongest among the covens & has so many members with special abilities, like the twins...

    Hopefully, I caught all the questions you guys had...
    - The sex = death thing. So, among many conversations left out of the movies, one repeating conversation had in the books was Edward's fear of not just accidentally losing control and biting Bella, it was also that he had a strong fear of physically hurting her because he lost control of his strength. So, the vamps in this world are super strong and they always have to be mindful of how much force they're using when they touch things and especially humans. Every moment he's with her, Edward has to consciously be aware of how much pressure he's using each and every time he touches her - even the smallest of touches. Even in the first book when they first have the sex conversation, he shoots it down 100% because he's afraid that he'd literally break her body if he for a moment forgot to mind it. This is why he freaks out so much over the bruises. He doesn't see how much he was holding back, he just sees that he "damaged" her body. So, yeah, in the books, this is not something that comes up from out of nowhere.
    - the wolves talking scene. yeah, this was really rough in the movies. In the books, this whole scene was really just about Jacob breaking free of Sam's alpha mind control and becoming the alpha he could have been all along - his bloodline is usually alpha. So it was necessary for them to be in wolf form... but yeah, the way they went about it - or maybe not even that, just the editing and quality of the voiceovers just ruined what could have been a good scene done right.
    -The "traditional" werewolves vs Quileute wolves. So the pack in the Twilight universe are not actually werewolves, they are shapeshifters. Traditional werewolves actually do exist in this world but are only ever briefly mentioned a few times in the books. The pack though are shifters. They shift into wolves at will. Their lore is that they were actually descended from wolves that took human form, giving them the ability to take wolf form when the tribe needs protection. So, its a sort of magic in their blood rather than an infection.
    - The baby is a hybrid, pretty equally half and half. The horrendous CGI on the baby's face doesn't really explain it well in this or in part 2 but even as a newborn, the baby is already intelligent. She is alert and aware of her environment and people because she has a more advanced half-vampire brain.
    -The Styrofoam cup and straw. The straw was not clear in the books. They put it in a lidded cup with a straw because they wanted to make it easier for Bella to consume. They worried that seeing the blood would make Bella sick because of her hemophobia. (She gets sick at the sight and smell of blood.)
    -Aro wants Alice. Part 2 doesn't really explain this well so not a spoiler. Aro is obsessed with getting Alice for his collection of gifted vampires so that he is even more powerful. (And yes, Bella too, especially later)

    When Edward said “it’s like you” he didn’t mean that the baby was human. He meant that it had a soul and was essentially a loving and kind person… he could hear it’s thoughts and knew that it loved Bella. He could also hear that the baby was smart (smart, and aware in a way that is obviously ridiculous for a fetus, but works for this weird hybrid vampire baby), and it was actively trying not to hurt Bella because it knew it was hurting her, but space was kind of cramped, and it couldn’t move it all without accidentally cracking one of her ribs. Up to the point that he could hear the thoughts he thought it was a soulless monster that was going to kill his wife. The moment he heard the baby’s thoughts and heard that it love Bella, he stopped hating it. He can’t hate anything that loves Bella (which is also why he’s very reluctantly fond of Jacob). It all sounds ridiculous but it makes more sense in the book, I swear lol.

    According to the Official Illustrated Guide, which gives a lot of the backstory to the characters that aren't in the regular books, Carlisle and Esme first met when she was a teenager and he treated her for a broken leg. They didn't see each other for years afterwards but she never forgot him. She eventually married a man who was very abusive, and when she discovered she was pregnant she ran away. She gave birth, but the baby boy only lived for a short time. She was so distraught after her baby died she jumped off a cliff. She was still alive when she was found, but was dying, and was taken to a hospital. Well, guess who was a doctor in that hospital, and he turned her to save her life, just like with Edward. They fell in love and married. That part is in the first book when Esme tells Bella the story during the baseball scene. There was more, though. In this movie Edward says he rebelled against Carlisle for a few years. He did, but he decided if he was going to kill humans he would kill criminals. What he doesn't say is the first man he sought out and killed was Esme's abusive husband.

    Fun tidbit that I’m too lazy to see if anyone else has mentioned: the books are entirely in Bella’s POV up until they leave from the honeymoon, and then switches to Jacob’s throughout Bella’s pregnancy. It was a good device to keep the reader in suspense about what’s happening with Bella, because we don’t get her insight during that time.

When the books came out I did get dragged into all the hype and ended up reading them and then watching all the movies. I did find them very cringy in parts, very red flaggy, and full of teenage angst. That's the target audience though so it is what it is. Despite this, I did find myself drawn into the story itself and wanting to know how it was going to end. I half expected you guys to quit after the first one to be honest. I'm so glad you didn't, your reactions were great! They can be a bit hard to watch in parts but you guys are following what's going on and seem to be at least somewhat invested. Its a very common thing actually. As much as we like to think the no brainer response to a woman dying during childbirth is that the father should be grateful for the child and care for it in the mother's memory. But a very common thing is that father's often hold resentment, thinking "if only she didnt have the baby, I would still have her". Its not like with cancer or other potential diseases where you have years to prepare mentally, and even then sometimes you just miss someone too much.
      Game of Thrones and other medieval based stories actually touch on this where a child is neglected or sometimes hated because they're seen as the sword that killed the mother. Which is ironic considering they brought up more olden day mortality rates. This was actually a realistic debate between parents that grounded parts of this story for me.

I think I've just been surrounded by stories where women mourn their late husbands for much longer than men mourn their late wives, and men remarry or move on so quickly because deep down they're eager to sleep with a new woman. Soo yeah, it's always nice to be reminded that some men truly have that deep of a love for their partner.

In the book Jacob describes it as it being hard to resist that type of devotion. Quill one of Jacob’s friends imprints on a 5 year old. Something about the bad scene where the wolves were talking.
    In the books (was mentioned in the movies as well but they glossed over it) when in wolf form, the pack can hear each others thoughts.
    So in that scene all of the talking wasn't actual talk, but basically them sharing their thoughts with one another which is why the mouth wasn't moving and it looked bad.

    The wolves aren't speaking as wolves. They can talk to each other telepathically when they are in wolf form. In fact, they can't shut it out. That's the entire reason you see Leah join Jakob so fast is because she's tired of hearing Sam in her head. It only applies to wolves in your pack so it was "quiet" for her with Jacob. You are hearing what is going on in their heads.

Thanks for the good time, gentlemen XD This movie did not need to be made into a part 1 and part two, but that was the ~trend~ during the era that this was made (like Deathly Hallows part 1 and part 2 and Mockingjay part 1 and part 2) and a major cash grab.

      Listening to the recap and re some book talk…I come with a story 😂
      My dad bought me this series because he read that it was the most popular in my demographic…only he did not realize that it was a series and thought they were all standalone…and THIS was the book he read out of curiosity 😂 he wanted to take the books back from me (I was reading New Moon by the time he started reading) and absolutely hated Breaking Dawn and how negative an image Bella portrayed of a girl in love and her aims in life. He actually sat me down and we had a talk about toxic relationships and mindsets, how you can get swept up in what you think romance and love is at a young/younger age and how this book (and then he found out it was a whole series of this hullabaloo) were not ideals to aim for. That talk with my dad, my Charlie, ended up saving me over the years.
      I also look back and laugh at how my dad read Breaking Dawn😂😂

    Now you're approaching the end, there is a FASCINATING analysis on how this series was essentially Mormon allegory (and Stephanie Meyers is LDS). Edward being so noble as to refuse to sleep with her until they're married, Bella insisting on keeping a pregnancy she knows is killing her, and in the books it even includes any POC who get turned into vampires turning pale and white (in the movie they made Laurent, for example, ashy, but in the books they turn pale, which aligns with the Mormon teaching that POC are Laminites, burned brown by the sun for their sins, and that they will be "washed clean and white" after entering Heaven). It's worth looking up and doing a deep dive, because there are MANY more details I don't recall.

    • @AnxietyRat
      @AnxietyRat Рік тому +2

      This. There are some ex-mormons on social media that have very carefully found all the tiny references and themes that Stephanie has interwoven into the story that is connected to her Mormonism. There is a surprising amount of it. It all completely went over my head as teen when I was reading the books... But yeah, her Mormonism colours a SIGNIFICANT amount of shit that happens in the books.

      I think he’d definitely see Edward as an asset for sure, even if not as much as Alice. As much as Aro can already read minds, it requires physical touch- but with Edward by his side he could read any mind he wants in real time. All he would need is physical contact with Edward and he can see everyone’s mind through him
