    Don't know if I'd call this "easy" Croatian (not for a beginner anyway), but it's a good introduction to the sound of the language in conversation.

    Easy? The first episode is words and phrases, and the 2nd episode is sentences in rapid speech. Quite a jump! Knowing some Russian helps me guess the gist of it.

      Dobrý deň, ja som Slovák, a v Chorvátsku som bol mnohokrát, máte prekrásne more a príjemných ľudí, s ktorými sa dá dohovoriť po slovensky, jeden Chorvát mi povedal, že slovenčine je z ne-juhoslovanských jazykov najľahšie rozumieť pre Chorváta, je to pravda? Rozumieš, čo som napísal :) ?

      Som Slovák, a v Chorvátsku je ľahšie sa dohovoriť po slovensky než po anglicky :D a písanej forme je ešte ľahšie porozumieť než hovorenej, kúpil som si v Chorvátsku kvapky do uší (kapi do uha po chorvátsky) a vedel som prečítať celý pribalový leták a porozumieť mu (čo mi pomohlo, pretože som na dovolenke dostal zápal vonkajšieho ucha a vďaka príbuznosti chorvátčiny som vedel, ako presne mám tie kvapky použiť).
      A veľa ľudí čo robí niečo ohľadom turizmu v Chorvátsku vie "česko-slovensky", zmes češtiny a slovenčiny ktorú sa zrejme naučili od turistov :).

      @ramdrivesys1869 7 років тому

      *****Ťažko povedať. Ja som sa po rusky aj trochu učil, takže v súčasnosti rozumiem lepšie po rusky (a viem aj do určitej miery hovoriť po rusky), ale po chorvátsky rozumiem tiež relatívne dobre, aj keď som sa ho vôbec neučil. U mňa v rodine hovorí viacero ľudí po rusky, takže som skôr v kontakte s ruštinou, ale po chorvátsky som sa neučil vôbec a rozumiem ho vcelku dobre, skoro tak dobre, ako ruštinu. A latinka sa číta ľahšie než azbuka.
      Povedal by som, že chorvátčina je podobnejšia slovenčine ako ruština.

      I just came back from Croatia, and I have to say that they are super nice. I met one jerk that acted like he wanted to fight when I wouldn't let him take our saved seats at a buffet. I just put the rest of our stuff there as a claim and stared him down and he eventually shut up. I went to get 2nds, then my wife said the guy started dancing like a boxer while I was gone (did he want to fight my wife?), and his wife kept calling my Chinese wife A-Zi-A, A-Zi-A until I came back from getting dessert. Then they both shut up - a loud-mouthed family of bluffing jerks. I was hoping the guy wasn't bluffing so that I could land one, but they behaved when I returned. I loved Croatia. We were told that Americans can buy property there. If you have some spare change you can get a villa if your Winter is bad. Believe me, you'll like it, and the food is excellent everywhere. Every cook is like a great chef. I don't care for Zagreb that much. It's the capital and business center, and it's not as clean and beautiful as Dalmatia to the South.

    So is it similar in any way to Hungarian or Russian? I’m from the United States so excuse my ignorance and I only speak English and Spanish. I always find it interesting what separates people by such small distance yet creates such differences in dialect. Zagreb to Budapest is the same distance as New York to Boston and they speak English fairly similarly. Though isolate yourself and a few hundred years later you have two completely separate languages such as Croatian and Hungarian. Am I making sense?

    "Nakon opće osude toga teksta bilo bi dobro da se zapitaju je li moguće da je Hrvatska baš toliko zadojena slijepim nacionalizmom zbog kojega Hrvati ne žele priznati da govore istim jezikom kao i Srbi, ili je, naprotiv, samostalnost standardnoga hrvatskoga jezika Hrvatima simbolički i identitetski važna, ma koliko se on malo strukturalno razlikovao od srpskoga. Mislim da reakcije na Deklaraciju kojima svjedočimo u Hrvatskoj pokazuje upravo da je ovo drugo slučaj: Hrvatima je, za razliku od mnogih drugih naroda (primjerice Švicaraca, Amerikanaca, Škota), njihov jezik vrlo važan činilac nacionalnog identiteta, ma koliko taj jezik bio sličan nekom drugom jeziku ili jezicima. Autorima Deklaracije bilo bi pametno da tu činjenicu jednostavno prihvate, umjesto da je pseudoznanstvenim i ideološki pristranim “argumentima” nastoje oboriti" (Ranko Matasović, Glas Slavonije).
