排水量型船舶において摩擦抵抗成分は全抵抗の約6~8割を占めます。そのため、摩擦抵抗の低減により高い省エネ効果が期待できます。 当グループでは、船底を気泡流で覆い摩擦抵抗を低減させる空気潤滑法の研究や、船体塗膜面や汚損による摩擦抵抗増加の評価手法の開発を行っています。

"For displacement-type ships, the frictional resistance component accounts for approximately 60% to 80% of the total resistance. Therefore, reducing frictional resistance can lead to significant energy savings. Researches on air lubrication methods which covers the ship's bottom with air bubbles to reduce frictional resistance and evaluation methods for frictional resistance increases due to fouling have been conducted."
